Tried to use this with my cable modem. It didn't work. I did use it to piggy back the router I was trying to replace as a wifi extender, and that was sort of ok until that stopped working too.

Picked this up on Black Friday and thought I got a great deal for what it’s supposed to provide. It fails to even begin to give any device internet speeds I was getting on my other router. This piece of trash throttles your internet and turns off randomly for no reason. A gigantic pile of steaming trash. I will never buy a Netgear router again. If you enjoy your internet being downgraded to a snail and having it turn off on you. This is the router for you.

I purchased this almost a year ago around Black Friday. I kept trying it in different locations (I mean different houses because I thought if it didn't work in one place, maybe it would in another), but it has never worked. It seems that a lot of the Nighthawks that were sold around Black Friday 2018 were defective. It lights up but I can never get a connection to the internet. I should have sent it back sooner, but I kept hoping that it would work (maybe I was doing something wrong) if I gave it some time and kept trying different things, as I'm not a techie. I have another Netgear product that works fine.

It worked really well for about 8-9 months before an automatic update rendered it completely useless. Couldn't factory reset, couldn't fix it even with the help of the internet company and netgear itself. Thank god I had bought insurance on this thing. I bought it for 80 dollars with it's original price was 170ish and now knowing it's problem I should've just left it on the shelf. Netgear is usually a GREAT company but man they messed up on this one.

Let me start by saying that I did not go to BestBuy with the intention of purchasing this model. I did my research beforehand and had decided on an R6400. I had decided to purchase the cheaper model figuring that I would replace it when technology advances made it obsolete. Upon arrival though, I noticed this model was only slightly more expensive and offered those extra features I wanted. Setup was a piece of cake for me, even doing a manual setup without any kind of wizard. I was easily able to replace an existing wifi network of a modem/router combo which dropped and locked up about every other day. Based on my speed tests, I see a huge improvement of my previous wifi speed. The results were astonishing to me. I am finally able to utilize the full speed I'm paying for. The built in VPN is a nice feature also. I spent far more time than I care to admit setting up a VPN server before I bought this router. The built in VPN server took less than a minute to "setup" and seems to be about 2x faster than my custom setup. I can't speak for the longevity or long term stability of this router yet, but my first impressions are that I wish I had upgraded years ago and feel this was well worth the price I paid.

I returned this item. Every morning, my devices would remain connected to the network with “No Internet Connection”. It worked great when it worked but it was very inconvenient to wake up every morning to no internet connection. Connection would intermittently drop throughout the day as well.

I purchased this router after I officially cut the cord. I had been using an Apple Airport Extreme and connected an Airport Express to extend the network through out my 3000 sq ft house. That combination worked well for the 20 Mbps that we were utilizing at the time. As soon as we upgraded to 100 Mbps is where the apple products had an issue. The setup on this router was easy just make sure you download the Nighthawk App before you open the box. Between tvs, firesticks, echos, smartplugs, phones and other devices, we have about 25-30 connections to the router. I consider myself a 6/7 on a tech scale of 1 - 10, and decided to do some research after hooking up the router. Here is what I decided to do after that research: I have set up to SSID (Networks) with the dual band router. One is 2.4 Ghz and the other is 5.0. I have connected the devices that do not use major bandwith (echos, smartplugs) to the 2.4 and the devices that use more bandwith (firesticks, phones, tvs) to the 5.0 Ghz network. I made sure that I set up different names for each network so I know which one I am connecting devices to. I also learned that some tvs, and all firesticks need to connect to channels that are between 36-58 on a 5.0Ghz network. Based on that I went into the router setup and made sure that both network as set to "Auto" Channel and had not issues hooking any device to the appropriate network. We had plenty of connectivity issues with the Apple products once we cut the cord. So far we have not had any issues with devices losing a signal even when three devices are streaming video.

The unit installs to a point. It shows up in settings as available , but won't actually connect in a usable way. As a result, I'm still stuck with my ancient and less powerful Netgear router. No useful support from Netgear to get this one working.

I am using this product for more than 6 months now. I have to restart my router at least once in a week for best performance. Only one issue, 1) after long uptime, wireless connection hang and it will not work until I restart router. Wired connection works without any issues.

Bought this to try and get out of the charter rent for the router they have but the charter router is so much more powerful than this netgear was. It slowed my speed down in half. Not happy with the product and returned it.

This is my second trip back to best buy, net gear comes with no instructions which you really dont need any, but both netgear nighthawks ac 2400 would not connect to internet/field type. They want you to down load app so they can track you info and game play. Do Not BUY THIS!
