It worked sort of for a few weeks
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The 2.4 band was so weak that we couldn't use it. It required rebooting 2-3 times per week. After 4 weeks it quit completely. Do not waste your money.

Great router with fast speeds and distance
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I recently received this router as part of Netgear's First Look Review Program and have very much enjoyed it. Setup is very simple and the app is easy to use. The speeds are much higher than my previous router and the distance spreads much farther than any router I've owned. This router is great for streaming tv and gaming and I would recommend this to anybody. The only downside is that it is a little more expensive than some routers but the benefits are worth it.

Great performer, but takes some effort to set up
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Overall – great speed and range. I had this thing running for a week without any hiccups. Setup is painful, especially if you’re using something like U-verse. The app is clunky and doesn’t allow you to do the things you need to do to get things up and running. I’m sure if you have a normal provider that just brings internet to a box and out to your router, the installation would be easy. I had a ton of trouble with U-verse, which requires you to plug the TV set-top boxes into the special Residential Gateway. To be fair, U-verse seems to make everything a pain, so my challenges are not unexpected. The app seems to have timeouts to allow the R7400 to reboot at certain times, but then you get stuck in an error loop because the R7400 took longer to reboot. When first plugged in, the R7400 created wifi networks on a separate subnet from the Uverse gateway. That may work for other people, but I needed everything on the same subnet. Different subnets meant no talking between devices. Sheesh – ok, so I guess I need to tell the R7400 to not act as a DHCP server. To do that, you have to log in through a browser (it’s not possible in the app). It took multiple restarts to get things working. My iPhone won’t stay connected to a network without internet access, so had to pull out an old Android tablet to take care of things. Once it was going, things were great. Range was pretty good. I used to use a range extender to get some smart home devices on the network. This seems to have solved that problem. Range was good enough to reach the far corner of the garage where the sprinkler controller sits, so I can get rid of the range extender. Speeds are better than the wireless built in to the Uverse gateway, so that is definitely a plus. I used to have an issue when someone else was video chatting and I wanted to watch a movie. That problem is gone now. I believe that has to do with the MU-MIMO capabilities. It’s a little thing, but that ends a huge annoyance for me. The guest network is sort of expected these days, but is a very useful tool. I don’t want others to be able to see all the devices on my network, so the idea of an easy way to give a second SSID that sits isolated on the network is great. I had no problems using it or giving the network credentials to others. Changing it is just as easy and doesn’t impact all my smart home devices. The parental controls seem helpful. They work, but I don’t have a kid in the house to control. I already have other devices I can access through ReadyCloud. This is huge. I was able to easily add a USB 3.0 device and get good speeds. I can access inside the network and now I can access from anywhere through my Netgear account. That is pretty important to me because it allows me to avoid the high fees from other hosting services like Google or Amazon. I used to run an extender to provide service to some smart home switches in the far end of the house, but that isn’t necessary anymore. If your current setup just needs a little bit more range, this might be the solution for you. One router and wifi network is infinitely easier than having the extender. So to summarize, this will be a challenge to set up if you’re using with U-verse. Once you get there, the price is worth it. This thing will keep you up and running, and it provides extra features like the ability to plug in a USB hard drive for network (or remote) access.

Great Router for $90!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Bought it for $89.99 to replace a clearance Belkin router I bought at a competitor years ago. Since my family is constantly on the internet streaming, learning, gaming, etc. I knew it was time to upgrade. Once I got it home I upgraded the firmware, set it up, and haven't had a single issue with it. I'm even able to get full signal and connection speed (150/10) at the back of my backyard on the 5ghz band from an iPhone 8. My family also does streams a 5 person skype calls (4 from our house) for our D&D campaign and everything runs perfectly. For $90, this router is an absolute steal and is the best router I've owned since getting broadband in the early 2000s. As someone whos worked in IT for 20 years I'm expecting it to have problems at some point, as all networking equipment eventually does, but for now, there is nothing about this router I can complain about.

Seems to work well - three stars for poor setup
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I was a longtime Linksys user but I bought this unit upon the recommendation of the BB saleperson. I have only three laptops and three phones, and we transmit data like docs and email. We also stream our entertainment and have a NAS. No gaming so I only wanted and needed a basic router that covered the whole house (2300 sq ft). Once setup, this router seems to perform much better than the old Linksys it replaced. No issues with streaming or data on my devices. The issue and the reason for three stars is the setup and customer service issues. The router is setup with a phone app which is a first for me. I thought it was really slick and simple. I had the router up and running but as soon as I connected my NAS everything crashed. After I disconnected the NAS, I was unable to get the device to operate correctly with the app. The documentation with the device is minimal and does not explain how to reboot the device. I tried contacting Netgear customer support via chat. That worked for about ten minutes and then I was disconnected. An attempt to reconnect was unsuccessful. I then called the support phone number which disconnected me twice. I finally reached a service agent on the third attempt. That agent was EXCELLENT and helped me to solve the problem and reestablish my wifi network. So the device appears to meet my needs and works well once I was able to get it setup. If I did not have have the setup issues I would have definitely rated it higher.

Fantastic router!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The router itself has performed flawlessly and the app certainly is an intriguing feature. I did have some initial issues getting the router setup. Once I rebooted a few times and attempted a reset of my ip address, things were smooth! The range is what I love most about this particular router. I am able to walk completely around my home (inside and out) and even to the mailbox while remaining connected. It's awesome not feeling restricted! I certainly appreciate being part of NETGEAR’s First Look Review Program. They have allowed me to test this product and it has been an honor.

Great
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. As i got this on Thanksgiving, Only cost $89 a great deal. I cant say it is the best but as the price tag with AC2600 its a good choice. As I saw there have bunch of rouch made in China. But this one is made in Taiwan. Since this model only @ Bestbuy. Dont have info of the chip. Not even in FCC web site. But the ID is same with R7450 running with Mediatek @ 880MHZ

Didn't work for me
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Signed up with Spectrum, they came installed modem. Couldn't get router to work. Computer and phone would connect, message said Internet may not be available. Spectrum put their router on everything worked. I kept that one. Tried to log into Net Gear apps, pass word was "Default", got invalid password. Called online help. Call went to India, English not good at all. Told me I needed to up grade security and she could fix it with a $399.99 package. The she said I needed a new computer. This one is a year old. I said if it can't work its going back to Best Buy. I thanked her for the help. Was on the phone over an hour. Just have to lease the Spectrum wireless router. I figured this would be a plug and play equipment. Glad I saved the boxes.
