Great modem/router for our home business!

Prior to purchasing this product, we rented a modem/router combination from our internet service provider. After months of tech calls, wire replacements, hardware replacements we decided to shift to this modem/router combination. It was the best purchase we could've made! This router was easy to set up and hook into our internet service providers network. The range is phenomenal, signal strength is incredible, and we were able to significantly increase our online presence inside the company just due to download and upload speed increase. We went from at best getting 10 to 15 MBps on the ISPs modem to getting 350MBps over the wireless 5g network in the furthest location in the house, while 20 other devices were connected and running different bandwidth requirements simultaneously. I would highly recommend this product to anyone looking to upgrade and have a modem/router that should last for a long time into the future.

    Speaking the Truth

First, let me say this Netgear router/modem combo is by far the best product I’ve ever used for internet service! The set up with Comcast was extremely easy and the download speeds were super fast! Working from home due to the pandemic, this was just what I needed. I bought my first unit in Sept 2019. It worked as advertised. I had multiple devices connected to it and I still had smoking internet speeds! Fast forward to May of 2020. After owning it for about 8 months, it started dropping the internet connection and I was constantly having to shut down my computers or devices and reboot my router. Then at one point it just shut down and wouldn’t turn on. I contacted Netgear and after some trouble shooting, they determined it was toast. To their credit, they sent a replacement unit out at no charge. Way to go Netgear Customer Service (NCS)! Fast forward to the middle of June 2021. As explained earlier, I work from home. I started to notice that the internet connection would drop and then reconnect multiple times during my work day. I was getting spotty connection on my other devices from time to time as well. Not to mention download speeds were so slow! Yesterday I was in the middle of a work presentation (using Microsoft Teams) when my internet connection completely failed! With no warning my connection went belly up and I was done for the day! Not good! I contacted NCS, and found my router was just outside the 1 year warranty period. So, after agreeing to add an extended warranty purchase to my router (for a good chunk of $$$) I was transferred to their gear head tech support branch. After 2 hrs and 40 minutes, the tech said my router was fried! For those considering buying this device, the shock of cold water for a review like this kinda disappointing. You should not that most reviews are by people who’ve only owned it for a few months. Still in the honeymoon phase. I read a similar review to mine and saw that while 43 people thought it was helpful, 64 did not. That review didn’t trash Netgear and neither does mine. Bottom line - This Netgear router/modem combo is BY FAR the best device I have ever hooked up to my Comcast service and got blazing fast speeds and it covered my whole (2500ft) house extremely well! The problem, it just does not last. If you do ignore this review and buy it anyway, buy, buy, buy, the extended warranty for as long as you can. You’re going to need it and you’ll be glad you did!

Got this to pair with a Gigabit Xfinity plan and I was pleasantly surprised at how good this was. I've since moved on from this unit as I have different networking needs now, however if you live in an apartment or smaller house, this is a very competent networking solution. Coverage was undoubtedly great in my 1BR apartment so no complaints there. Speeds were exactly where they should be for wifi and wired connections gave me good results as well. My only gripe is the size of the unit, it's rather large so finding a suitable place for it will likely be the only challenge you have with it. Activation through Xfinity was a breeze (used the online portal) and getting it up and running after that was easy. The web UI is rather spartan but gives you most (if not all) of what you would need in a consumer device. Overall, I'd recommend this to anyone looking for an all in one solution for an apartment or small house that wants to make the most out of their gigabit internet service and save a few bucks over a wifi 6 solution.

I have been using this for a few years now and haven't had any issues with it crapping out on me. Range is great and wifi speeds are outstanding. My only real complaint about this is that it does not have an adjustable QOS which means it uses predetermined settings to prioritize connections for games or for movies or media over work. I often try to host servers and when sharing a connection with many other people it does not give me the option to allow it to prioritize my server over everything else. If you don't need to adjust the QOS from media/games to anything than it is a fantastic buy. But if you need to prioritize different things don't buy it as it does not give you the option.

Strong signal, but it fades about 90-100 feet away a from the router. But the streaming quality with it is seemless. At up and reset is really easy too!

I'll make this short and sweet. Yes. Just Yes. If you need to or want to replace your ISP provided router, you won't get better than this. Easy setup. Great range (I no longer need my wifi extender for access in the back yard). Most importantly, as most 'ISP provided wifi routers' open your connection up as "free wifi access points" to your neighbors, this will not. Fantastic speed ( have full gigabit speed), easy to use, easy to set up, full control, hook up a usb drive and access your music/videos with your tablet/phone in your back yard or by the pool. Get this. Side Note: It does NOT integrate with the Netgear Nighthawk app at this time except through the 'access anywhere' web integration.

Bought this to replace a Comcast modem/router. Works very well so far. Easy to set up on your own. Plugged a laptop into the router and connected it to the incoming cable jack on the wall and within a few minutes it connected to the internet. I was able to log into my Comcast account and verify that it was showing on our device list, then we were good to go from there. Provides significantly better coverage throughout our house than the cable company provided modem/router. I am actually getting the advertised download speeds that I was not getting with the old modem. Would highly recommend getting this to replace the one from the cable company. It's worth it, and in a year's time, with no more rental fees it will pay for itself.

Should of bought this sooner, it’s worth buying. I cancel my cable and just kept my internet services and it’s worth it. The cable modem just kept on lagging and would not support as many devices and with nighthawk x4 no problems at all. It’s fast and we’re able to have multiple devices on and no issues with lagging or no signal. This is a great product it’s perfect to make your home a smart home, it’s worth to buy. Also very easy to set up, just call your cable provider and give them the Mac number below the modem, then just connect your Ethernet cable to it and power up modem and follow instructions. Takes about 5 min .

So far so good, have had this for about two weeks. Fast and wide signal strength. Don’t think I’ll need 1+GB speeds for years to come so this product is overkill. I have had two dropouts, though it appears it was provider related, as I was still connected via Wi-Fi just no internet connection. It’s a bit bulky size-wise, but that’s to be expected with Nighthawk. Works seamlessly with the Nighthawk app as well.

I'm new to Netgear and with the 3.1 its so much faster to download. Not a lot of buffering. Works great with Playstation and Xbox. One thing I found out after purchase, you need to be running on 5G network, plus you need about 1 gig on top of that, and that should just about do it for you if you do alot of gaming, and streaming. The price is kinda high , but it beats monthly fees for renting one. I've saved more money buying my own then renting monthly. You can do the math, and see for yourself.

This Netgear Nighthawk modem router is a beast. The antennas are wicked looking & gives great coverage. Gives 2 networks the other is a 5g network best suited for newer devices. If you think your device too old & can’t pick it up, you will know by not seeing the other network it pushes out. Either way it is fast & great for streaming & gaming. Haven’t come across any lagging issues & more stable internet. The price you pay for this product may be a little pricey but the results are uncanny.

I bought this to replace our 5 year old modem and router. Our old router gave me speeds of 115Mbps wires and about 75Mbps over 5ghz wifi. When we initially connected this combo I was getting speeds of 185 to 210Mbps wired but only 20 to 30Mbps over 5ghz wifi. Our security cameras were also showing poor connection messages. I was getting ready to return this product but decided to wait until the weekend since we needed the internet to work from home. I decided to test my speeds one more time so I could show the sales rep why I was returning the modem/ router. To my surprise my download speed over wifi had increased to 185Mbps. However my wired speed dropped to 150Mbps. Our cameras are also no longer displaying the bad connection message. So I dont know if it takes a while for this guy to get going or if Xfinity pushed firmware updates to the modem to improve performance. Our house is a standard Chicago bungalow and the modem is closer to the rear of the house. We are able to get a strong signal in the front of the house, on the second floor and the basement. I did have a few issues logging into the modem. After initially setting my password I was unable to log in to the modem/ router to set it up. I also had issues when using the default security settings. Older devices can not connect to the router if you are using WPA2-PSK. You have to switch to WPA-PSK + WPA2-PSK security settings.

We got this to replace a 4-year-old Motorola surfboard. The surfboard was starting to give us very low speeds on a very weak signal. We installed this in our basement and our signal strength is now fantastic on both of the bands and on the 5G band we're getting a full 150 of 150 megabytes per second that we pay for. And that's with the router in the basement and our phones upstairs. This is an extremely good unit and set up was very simple.

Easy set up, the dual bands lets me have the kids on one band I am on the other, no lag speed, very good range, I was going to have to purchase the pucks from Xfinity to improve the service in the back bedrooms, this thing is reaching back there with no problem.

Pricey but Great modem! It significantly increased the wifi coverage in my home and I get much faster speeds than I did with the Xfinity gateway modem. Now I'm bable to actually take advantage of 1gb internet speeds. The signal drops occasionally but normally doesn't take much time to restore. Maybe not worth $400 but that's debatable. I'm super happy with the performance so for me it was worth it.
