Netgear NightHawk not impressive
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Installation was fairly easy, but you have no idea what the best placement/direction works best for the antennas unless you download/read the manual and notice there is a single comment to one of the graphics saying it should look like this picture. I had poor range (no signal in an adjacent bedroom) and I was trying to correct that by pointing them toward that room (Total distance device to device was only 16 feet.) The antennae rotate and the picture in the manual shows them straight up so I tried that. Didn't help. Eventually moved to a different part of the room. Works now. Don't think I should have that problem at such a close distance. This is not a cheap router. My house is only 1209 square feet! Shouldn't be a problem. Speed is adequate. The "Armor" security and tech support they provide is a trial version. Have to pay for it monthly &/or yearly if you want what they start you on. Didn't want to return since I had put all my info in. Do not recommend.

SLOW JUNK
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.SLOW. While the internally tested internet speed showed 940 mbps and the modem/router combo running .ac bandwidth gave 500+ mbps via 5Ghz wifi, this tested far below 200 mbps, sometimes only 120 mbps on its 5Ghz channel, with all devices within a few feet of the router. I tested it on a Windows laptop, a Macbook, and an iphone, and it dropped from 300-500+ mbps on the internet company's Arris gateway/router to only 150 mbps on the Nighthawk. I did the testing repeatedly because I just couldn't believe it. I have an ASUS AX mesh system at another house and it easily runs at 250 mbps+ all through the house up to 400+ right by the base and this thing can't even break 200 when the devices are practically on top of it. They tried to make it easy to setup using their app but it just made the whole process extremely slow. I'll stick with ASUS, UBIQUITI, or pretty much any other brand from now on.

Worked great until just recently.
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I was having no issues with this router up until this past week and now it just seems like its happening every day. I constantly am waking up in the morning and the wifi will be out and the lights are still indicating a connection. This prompts me to have to reset the router. Of course this only happens once a day if I am lucky, if not it will happen 3-4 times a day (yesterday 4-29-2021). Now I am well past my return date and I am sitting here with a really expensive router that functions most of the time but I always have to live in fear that it will suddenly malfunction. This doesn't help when I work from home and need to have internet available. It is starting to affect my job.

Absolute worst Netgear router owned since 2006
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I am no stranger to networking and I've owned a plethora of Netgear extenders and routers over the years. In the Nighthawk family I've owned the AC1750, 1900, and 2600 (flawless). I decided to upgrade to AX and install AX wifi cards in my three laptops. I gave my 2600 to my nephew after purchasing the RAX4200--HUGE MISTAKE. This router cannot maintain a 5g connection at all. The disconnects are nonstop no matter what channel is used. Firmware upgrades and downgrades did nothing. 2.4ghz worked fine, but I stream and game on 5g and that was where the problems came nonstop. Terrible product. After the most recent disconnect while streaming music I gave up and instantly purchased the ASUS AX3000 that was sittting in my shopping list on Amazon. Best decision ever. That router is flawless and EVERY issue I had using the RAX4200 went away--go figure. Sorry Netgear, but you are going to lose the race putting out these inferior, unstable new routers.
