Doesn't work well with some Verizon Optical Network terminals. Got super slow speeds despite having gigabit internet, switched it out for a tp-link router and had gogabit speeds instantly

      Hi John,

Thank you for your review, we appreciate your feedback and we want you to know that your experience is important to us. We would like an opportunity to improve your experience with your RS500 speeds while connected to a Verizon ONT. There are many factors that can affect your Internet connection speed for devices on your home network. When experiencing issues with the speed from your device, we recommend checking your internet speeds from a few different sources, including at your modem directly, between your ISP & Router as well as your wireless speed. For more information on this, please visit the following resources: https://kb.netgear.com/000038894/How-do-I-check-my-Internet-speed, and also: https://kb.netgear.com/19279/Why-am-I-not-getting-the-maximum-speed-that-my-router-is-capable-of?language=en_US.

We would like to follow up with you regarding the speeds you are experiencing. Please reach out to us with your contact information as well as a copy of your review to netgearteam@netgear.com, and we will be happy to help you.

When someone downloads something, the other devices will become slower, or they will lose their connection to the Wi-Fi. To restore the connection, I have to reset the router.

Worst wifi I've ever used. Very disappointed as i have used Nighthawks consistently for decades. The speed using a wired connection to xbox one and series x is absolutely amazing but trying to connect with wifi barely even connects at all. I get over 600mbs wired and only 20or less mbs wifi regardless of the channel and doesn't matter between the 2.4 or 5g and wifi 6 is not recognized for xbox. 2.4 it's actually usable but not fast because it just stays connected. I've followed all the steps to fix so either i have a defective product or the design itself is seriously flawed!!!

      Hi RandallM,

Thank you for your review, we appreciate your feedback and we want you to know that your experience is important to us. We're sorry to hear that you had difficulty with setting up your new RS500 as well as your internet dropping even after speaking with Support. When experiencing trouble during installation, we recommend checking out this resource with guided instructions: https://kb.netgear.com/000061614/I-m-having-trouble-installing-my-NETGEAR-router-what-do-I-do?language=en_US.

When experiencing intermittent connectivity, we recommend a few troubleshooting steps including ensuring your RS500 is on the latest firmware v1.0.5.22 as well as checking all connected cables such as power and ethernet are all fastened securely and in good condition. If your connected modem also acts as a router, change the settings for this device to Bridge Mode or AP mode to avoid any double NAT issues.

If you need additional assistance, please reach out to us with your contact information along with your Support case number and a copy of your review to netgearteam@netgear.com, and we will be happy to help you.

      Regards,

Awful. Worked the first day then had buffering and disconnecting issues. Was on the phone with Nighthawk I.T for hours on 3 different phone calls for a day. Then just returned and went back to spectrums WiFi 7 router and haven’t had any problems. First night hawk I had was amazing. This one, not so much. Hoping it was just a bad egg in the thousands. Will try another someday.

    Futureproofing with great back-compatibility

Note: I purchased this through Netgear, and they are running a sweepstakes for folks who review this router on BestBuy and Amazon. That said, I'm giving 5* because it's excellent, as outlined in detail below. I purchased this router to upgrade from my old Wi-fi 5 setup (802.11 ac); I wanted to future-proof with the new wi-fi 7 (802.11 be), esp since multi-channel linking will eliminate the perennial problem of joining the high-speed or long-range channels. With few Wi-fi 7 options available there are two things that appealed about the RS500 over comparable competition. 1. Coverage -- this kicks the crap out of my old Linksys EA7500, and I can regularly have wifi even out in my yard. 2. Expanded 5GHz band -- the priority on the 5GHz band addresses the majority of traffic in our household. This specifically contrasts the price-equivalent TP-link which puts more channels into the 6GHz band, which won't be necessary for some time with almost no devices using Wifi-7 and few (in our house) using Wifi-6. I've had this up for just about a week, so hard to report on reliability, but set-up was fast and seamless. Re-naming to my old wifi network name meant all devices transferred over, and I was able to set up my printer via WPS quickly. The band auto-selection is kinda cool. Potential cons: 1. If you're an uber LAN gamer who for some reason needs 10Gig LAN then you may opt for another router (like the RS600). 2. Device comes with Netgear Armor, and you have to opt out rather than in. I found this didn't work on the Nighthawk App, but was easy to do from my browser. Frankly this device is probably overkill in terms of overall data transfer (no way I'll come close to the bandwidth), but the Wifi 7 feature-set, great coverage range, and priority on the 5Ghz band mean this will likely be the last router you'll need for a decade or more.

    Big upgrade

We upgraded from a spectrum wifi 6 router to the Netgear RS500 and could not be happier. We have much more consistent connection throughout our house with minimal drops in Mbps even at the furthest corners. We are not tech savvy, and we’re worried it would be a challenge to set up, but using the app was very easy, and turned out to be a simple set up. Very happy with the product so far.

Title: Fantastic Description: Title: Fantastic Description: I was so frustrated with my internet provider's modem/router unit that delivered half the speed I was paying for and constantly loosing it's internet signal. I couldn't even connect my detached garage door opener to the app because of lack of signal or barely get wifi on my front porch. I bought a Netgear modem, router and switch got everything connected and now I get exactly the speed I'm paying for! I can actually surf the web on my laptop on my network from the neighbors yard across the street and get better speed in my garage with the door closed than I use to get in my living room. The difference is simply astounding. I haven't had a buffering or lost internet connection yet. Do yourself a favor, spend the money buy your own Netgear equipment and ditch your providers junk.

I purchased this router online, directly from Netgear. I've been a loyal Netgear owner for 20 years and this purchase has not let me down. Shipping was faster than expected and well packed. Set up was quite user-friendly and I had no problem connecting to my many electronic devices and security system. The coverage and connection strength was superior to my older Netgear router. Overall a great router at a decent price. 5 stars...highly recommended !

    RS500 Router

I got the Nighthawk RS500 router and the Nighthawk CM3000 Multi-gig modem and, for the first time, I’m finally getting the speeds I’m paying for. I replaced an old Arris Surfboard router/modem combo that I wasn’t too pleased with where I was getting about a tenth of the 1Gig plan I was paying for. The RS500 was easy to set up; the Nighthawk app walked through all of the steps (I just had to add the new device through my internet provider first). The app makes it easy to test performance, manage devices (or see what band they’re connected to), and make a guest network. I only have a few devices that support the 6 GHz band, but they are insanely fast when they’re getting it. The Smart Connect is seamless; I’m always getting the best internet the router can give me wherever I am in the house. My only gripe is the steep price, but it is well worth the money as someone who games.

Going from a 8 year old router to the Nighthawk BE12000 is like comparing an apple to an orange. I am finally getting speeds I've been paying for all these years with my ISP. The security app Armour I certainly enjoy (have stopped some dangerous phishing websites). It has convinced me to purchase this additional and necessary security, especially in today's world. Thanks Netgear for a wonderful product

The quickest setup for a router I have ever done. The Nighthawk app makes it easy to manage all the bands and even create a guest network separate from the main. Having 6G speeds available helps ensure that this router will hopefully be future-proof.

Title: Easy Peasy install Description: Installation of my WiFi 7 is straightforward, and the App is perfect. Speed is excellent, covers the entire home, including the basement TVs. The only thing is that if you have some older TVs and computers, some may not accept, but we found a way to adjust based on different levels of acceptance. Overall, I strongly recommend.

Router was very easy to setup using the phone app. Having to have only one password is nice and the connected items pick the best band (2.4, 5, 6) to use. Noticed a significant speed difference over my old Nighthawk router that was replaced.
