This extender for the most part worked ok. I purchased it Sept 30 2018 and this morning when I tried to reset my equipment the power light on the back started flashing red. tried to do a hard reset and nothing, same result. I looked on line and see that this unit is most likely DOA. So less tha 2 years old and dead. Guess I need to look at another brand for my NEW extender.

    Easiest To Setup

Disclaimer: Netgear sent me this extender for free to review. This extender has to be the easiest to set up. It literally takes about 5-10 minutes to get it set up. All I had to do is press the wps button on the back of my router, and within 2 mins, press the wps button on the router that you want to extend the signal. If you don't want to use the wps setup, then there is the traditional route of connecting to the extender, then go to mywifiext.net and follow the instruction from there. I would advise if you use wps to connect, once you are connected, go to mywifiext.net to see if there is an update, the unit they shipped me had an update, yours might not but it's always good to check. Once I got it setup, I moved it to the other end of my house, opposite of my main router, signal seems to be very strong even when I'm outside. I've got a few nest security cameras those care connected to a Netgear N300 that is plugged into the outlet in my garage, with this extender, it completely eliminate the need for that extender. Very happy with this, videos are now lag free, I can also walk around my yard outside my house without losing signal. The only thing I did not like was that it seems to take too long for the extender to bootup and connect to the router, hopefully this can be fix with a firmware update. Deducting one star for this, the price is a bit higher than most extender but it performs.

Constant re-boots and resets. Coverage and speed wasn't any better than using just 1 router. Had a direct line-of-sight to main router and all-green indicators for strong 5ghz backhaul. Speeds on my Xbox One actually went down despite this extender only 10 feet or so away. Every little change on the settings required a reboot and then would prompt going through the settings again. Very frustrating especially for this price point. Ended up returning it.

Though I tried several times, I could not get this product to do more than take up space. At over $100, it would be one expensive paperweight. The app used to install and monitor the WiFi extender kept stalling for inexplicable reasons. When it finally said the device was up and running, it took about a dozen seconds to change its mind and send me back to the setup process again. In my opinion, there are much better products out there.

Extender limits the capability of the Router

I took Netgear's advice to buy this to improve the coverage of my Netgear R8000 router. It was a disaster. After many many hours of talking to different support techs at Netgear (all who used English as a second language) I finally found out why it would not work. When using the extender, one has to switch off one the main features of the router, Smart Connect. If I had it to do all over again, I would avoid Netgear altogether.

I was a firm supporter of Netgear Nighthawk products, but no longer. Buyer be warned! Netgear's firmware updates are terrible reducing bandwidth of my Gigabyte service down to 10 Mbps! I have tried several new Nighthawk routers and this extended all with the same issue. I took them all back. I purchased an ASUS AC3100 Extreme - 100% better! easy to set-up, firmware works, more advanced features. Time to switch to ASUS!

After using a while, the WiFi is unable to connect. I tried reset or rebooting it, both doesn’t work. I saw many reviews that have the same problem as mine, I think there’s a design default or something. I highly suggest the manufacture recall all the products and give us refund or a new device that actually works.

Unit failed after 3 months, Netgear replaced it with I assume a new unit and replacement failed to connect out of the box. When the extender works it is fine but the reliability is poor at best. I went back to my old TPlink AC1750 and all is fine. The only reason I even considered the Netgear unit was the number if Ethernet ports available. My system router is a Netgear Orbi which is rock solid, not one problem.

It was a pain to setup since the software is bad. It would not connect my devices to my 5GHz band, which is what I wanted for the faster speeds. The hardware was bad too, 5GHZ band light would not light up, even when it tried to connect. I ended up returning it and getting the Netgear mesh system with the one satellite (much better system).

I was hoping this was going to work but it didn't. I tried everything to make it work but I had no luck. It hooked up fine and worked good for about an hour and then it dropped the internet. It keep dropping me about ever hour or so for about 5 minutes then it came back on. Did this for 3 days and I had enough. Sent it back. Don't buy it.

In upshot, we paid the most for this WiFi mesh extender and after hours of fiddling and time on the phone the manufacturer said it was bad. Had to return it. Ended up going with the Orbi. Soooo much easier!
