Died after 14 months. Not worth the money. All lights just blink. Did research and seems to be an issue with this model.

Great Range Extender with high speed

Due to WiFi issues with my SmartThings Hub, I needed a range Extender to hook my hub a bit away from my Access Point. Originally I used an AC750. This worked for a while, but due to a bug on my network (Not quite sure what the bug was) I would regularly get a networking loop on my network, which would kill both my Wireless Area Network, as well as my Local Area Network. I started to research my choices and saw that the EX8000 was just recently released. This Extender gave me both gig interfaces on it's backend, as well as very fast communication to my access point. When I got the Extender, the first thing that hit me was it's size. The AC750 was a small, device, the EX8000 is much bigger and has a considerable amount of bulk. Which I would expect when looking at all the tech that is crammed into the inside of the extender. Overall, the packaging is good. Setup was a breeze. I actually had to leave town the day I got the extender, and did not have time to try and get everything to talk to each other. I just hit the WPS button on the extender and access point, and BAM! everything was working. I was able to leave, and during that week, the network issues I had been experiencing were gone. When I got home, I logged into the web interface of the Extender and tweaked the settings. One thing I always suggest people do is upgrade the firmware, which even though this is a fairly new device, there was a minor firmware upgrade that was available. I tweaked a few other settings, but overall the extender is a set it and forget it device. I love that I can now extend my network at gig speeds. I've been slowly upgrading my home network, and this helps me fix some slower parts of my home network. I am impressed that it really is just a set it and forget it setup. This extender does exactly what I was hoping it would. I feel that it is a good buy, and I have actually recommended the Extender to my brother who is dealing with some dead spots within his home. If you are looking for good extender, with the ability to get you gig speeds and/or need to hardwire devices to the extender, I'd recommend this one. For transparency, I received this extender from NetGear for free as part of their first look program, but my review is impartial and reflects my experience with this device.

I have a 2200 SQ ft home and I had problems with my Nighthawk AC1900 Wi-Fi router device. My connections were downstairs and while in the bedroom with the door closed on the opposite side of the house, my connection went from 175MB from Speedtest.net all the way down to 0 because the 5Ghz signal would not reach my bedroom with a stable connection. When I installed this device, with by Dual Band AC1900 Nighthawk, I placed it near the stairwell of my home (halfway between bedroom and original signal source), my 5Ghz connection now reaches all rooms consistently. My connection of course doesn't get the 175MB that I get standing in front of the main unit, but I do get anywhere between 75-120MB in the room with the door closed! This device WORKS and is definitely worth purchasing if you have issues with your existing wifi not reaching all areas of your home. I tried the Orbi system, but I hated the simplicity of it and the fact that the remote satellites would constantly drop signal. This device can work with 2.4Ghz only Wifi devices, but it is recommended to be at least Dual Band (2.4 & 5Ghz). The 5Ghz is still present on your dual band network that you can continue to use, but all of your back end traffic (from Netgear to Netgear) will travel across that link. Unless you are constantly streaming or have more than 10+ devices on that 5Ghz SSID, you probably won't see a change in overall performance. Now If you have a tri-band Wi-Fi router ( 2.4, 5, 5Ghz), it will take over that second 5Ghz signal and dedicate that to its backend transmission line leaving you with two SSIDs using the 2.4Ghz & 5Ghz bands. In my opinion, this device was well worth the $145 I paid when it was on sale and would still be worth it if going wireless to the extender is your only option. If you have cables running through your house, you should probably look into a central controller with some APs to accomplish 100% coverage as this would be much faster and probably less expensive in the long run.
