Customers are saying

Customers are enthusiastic about the Nighthawk R7000 AC1900 WiFi Router's impressive range, ease of use, and performance. Many appreciate its strong signal and the generally simple setup process, leading to positive experiences with streaming and overall WiFi quality. However, some users reported occasional connection issues and noted the router's relatively large size. While some experienced improvements in lag, others mentioned problems with the firmware.

    A little disappointed

We were having trouble getting a good connection to a streaming service -- so went in search of a better router. Was told this would solve our problem and it did not. Ended up returning it. Used a $10 Best Buy reward and when I returned it did not get that back even though I was told I would. That being said, the router itself is probably great -- just not any better than our current one to solve our issue.

This router worked flawlessly for the first six months. Since then, I’ve had nothing but problems. I have tried everything I can think of to mitigate the slow speeds and dropping 5GHz band. Even the ether or ports will fail on occasion. I’ve tried a factory reset, downgrade firmware, upgrade firmware, call my ISP, you name it. This product is an incredible disappointment, especially in a time when working from home is so critical. It seems I’m not the only one experiencing issues either. Hundreds of forum posts with similar issues with this router on the likes of Netgear’s own site, Reddit, and some other smaller sites. I cannot stress it enough - Do not buy this router. It will work for a short time and start failing shortly thereafter.

Wifi Speed is way lower than advertised

I purchased this router because I have the router that Spectrum provides and was hoping for an upgrade. With my Spectrum router I get 475mbps wired and 130mbps from wifi. I bought this product because it advertised being able to increase my wifi speed because it provided a stronger signal. When I installed it my wired speed was still 475mbps but my wifi was now only 30mbps. I talked with tech support and they had me try different settings and update the firmware to fix the problem but after all their 'fixes' my speed only went up to 60mbps. Very disappointing that the product is supposed to increase your wifi speed but it basically cut mine in half. I would look elsewhere when looking for a new router.

OVER PRICED!! BUY TP LINK C9! BETTER EVERYWAY!

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

Im writing this review from the perspective of someone who has used the black bird and compared it to many other products out there...im being 100% sincere when i say DO NOT BUY THIS ROUTER! even though it works very well and has many strong features the sad truth is that the TP LINK ARCHER C9 BLOWS IT OUT OF THE WATER! the black bird was giving me 59 mbps in my bedroom with comcast internet which is about 30 ft away from the router. It passes through many doors walls and appliances just to get the signal to me. it was 59 mbps on the 5 GHZ band and only 45 MPBS on the slower but longer range 2.4 GHZ band. also should be said that i was experiencing dead spots" from time to time with the black bird, which isnt terrible when i remember that every other router before this one could not give me reliable signal at all. so i thought i had the best router that i could get for 200$ and was just going to have to deal with the intermediate signal loss and slower than my hard line MPBS speeds. then i came across the TP LINK C9! I read OUTSTANDING Reviews on it and decided to compare just for fun. i found it for only 129 on sale at new egg and bought it. when i set it up i couldnt beleive it. it was pulling OVER 100MBPS tested on 3 different Devices over a period of a week, and ON BOTH BANDS! not just the 5GHZ! i couldnt believe that this router that was 70$ CHEAPER was out performing the 200$ black bird hands down! so then i go to the absolute opposite side of the house ( i live in a LONG BRICK ranch style home BTW) and normally not even the black bird could hold up any signal strength going through so much walls and distance . but sure as heck th Archer C9 was showing half Signal strength and tested out at 70 MBPS throughput! i have had it for a month now And i NEVER EVER Drop signal and can run over 8 devices (probably more if i had em) at the same time with 0 issue! People i am a 26 yr old service coordinator not a paid employee of TP link but i just want everyone to know that they are by far the best deal out there! do some research i am not the only one loving this thing! it out performs devices that cost 3x as much and it does it with style! so please do your self a favor and pick it up! Ps i have even heard that the previous GEN. archer C7 and C8 STILL out performs most of the newest Routers out there, let alone the C9!

This is awful. I set it up per instructions on app. This thing loses connection all the time. I have to go into the app and reboot it several times a day. I’m tired of unplugging it, plugging it, trying different channels, etc. What a waste of money!

The antenna's are flimsy, one broke. I have gigabit internet, the router bottle necks the speed. The firmware is out of date; you literally have to flash it yourself even though it says it will automatically update for you. QoS does not work at all. The list goes on and on.

I had this router for almost a month, I have Comcast’s “blast!” Internet which in my area is 250Mbps/10Mbps, I usually get 300/12 with Speed tests. This router was good for the first week then proceeded to slow down drastically to the point where I was getting on average 25Mbps with speed tests and my devices internet would be horribly slow. Needless to say I returned this.
