Easy to setup and fast speeds

Got this to replace my old Linksys e2000. We do so much more wireless nowadays, with tablets, printers, laptops the old router wasn't holding up as well. We do lots of streaming to our tablets and upgraded to this to reduce hiccups. It works great, we can stream different movies to 2 tablets and a laptop all with no hitches. Setup was very easy, was almost just plug and play, I had to do very little. I highly recommend changing your router password. The default username & password is security risk.

I had Netgear routers for years. Then the old one kept needing to be restarted. So I got this. This ALSO couldn't keep connections up and kept requiring restart. Replaced with Linksys and all problems disappeared.

This is by far the best router I have ever used, plus it looks really cool too. I have used the Motorola sbg6500 for two years with nothing but problems of internet being down. I bought this a few weeks ago and my problems are gone. I still use the sbg6500 for my modem only with all wifi disabled. The nighthawk has really good range and speed. I haven't don't a speed test on my computers but in my iphone I the test says 30mbps up and 10mbps down (cox cable). I can easily download a large file or stream a movie and use other devices with no issues. Plus the interface is pretty cool too. There are lots of options, and setup was pretty much instant. The app lets you manage parental controls, monitor your network map and name everything, and a tone more that I haven't even looked at yet. I just feel like I have control over my internet, and not the other way around. That's a good feeling to have as a parent.

I wasn't happy with the service.when I asked to speak to the manager she wasn't available. The assistant manager was chatting it up with some employees. It looked like they were having a great time. She didn't seem interested in talking to me so I got a refund and left.

If you don't mind the heft (this router is HUGE) this product is superb! I have a 2500sq ft home and the previous N router (even with an extender upstairs) gave poor coverage in the 2 back bedrooms. Added this router, no extender, and vwalaa full bars in the back bedrooms. For the first time I am actually getting the 50mbps speed promised by comcast! The dual band simultaneously is also VERY useful. I can put my devices on the 5 band, and the kids on the 2.4 and everybody stays at full speed. It is expensive, but you get what you pay for and this was well worth the price.

setup was easy. Had router up and running fast. After first day of usage, router WiFi starting dropping off intermittently. Too much of a hassle. Might be just my bad luck that I bought a lemon.

I purchased this router to get better coverage and in my 1500sq ranch style home it was horrible. I have Comcast gigabit speed and using a sb8200 modem. If you need good coverage and fast speeds look into the Eero home.

I have had 2 of these now and the firmware update killed it. It made my speeds go from 300mb to 10mb. I thought the 1st time I just had a dud but when I bought the same router again, the same thing ended up happening.

Premium Router at a Premium Price

I was looking at this router as well as the DLink AC 3200. The DLink won on specs but was priced accordingly. I purchased both and this one won out. The DLink AC 3200 may look a lot better but the quality was terrible after a firmware update. It kept dropping the signal and was having DNS issues. I returned it but have been told that a firmware update that came out this week fixed it. I would still sick with this as there is plenty of power for anyone with great range.

Couldn't even get through setup - and I'm not a stranger to home networking technology. They require you to use their app for setup which malfunctioned several times through the process. Netgear support is awful.

I had an Ethernet port fail within a few months and then the entire device gave out after 1.5 years, it replaced an Apple Time Capsule that was about 5ish years old at the time so I wasn’t really please about it’s short life.

    Great for gamers

This router is an excellent performer and so far has been able to handle all the demands of my gadgets with no problems. The range and speed are very impressive specially for gamers or heavy users of streaming services such as Netflix since the wireless performance is very strong therefore gaming or streaming is buttery smooth. Make sure you go into your router settings and activate QoS for upload if you are a gamer or download if you like to stream movies from Netflix, this will allow you to always have the best wireless experience possible. I have attached a very instructive video on setting up the router along with activating QoS. I was a bit hesitant to purchase such a new router due to the bugs associated with newly released hardware but I am extremely happy with this product; I have been in possession of this router for two weeks and so far it has exceeded my expectations. Highly recommended!

Great Unit with Slight (Easy to Fix) Issue

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

PROS: -Easy setup -Strong signal CONS: -Firmware needs manual updating -Unit needed reset after updating firmware before speed issues resolved Details: This router is acting as a replacement to the standard FIOS Router, 400/400 service. Initially, we had some serious issues with download and upload speed. After doing some research and tinkering, I learned that I had to manually update the firmware for the router and then factory reset it after the firmware was set. Only after that was I able to put in my own network SSID and we are finally getting the speeds we are supposed to get. DO NOT RELY on the automatic firmware check on the router homepage to update the router, go to the manufacturer website, and get the latest firmware. We now get speeds that are faster than what we were getting with our Verizon router.
