Good when it works
||Posted . Owned for 10 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The Wi-Fi randomly drops. It's a common issue with this model, and it's known in the Netgear community. I should have researched before buying.

Great router
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Let me preface this by saying that I've only had this a few days so reliability is yet to be determined. If you need versatile VPN functionality you might be better with an ASUS, as the VPN ability of this router and others in this category (such as the D-link 1900 model# are limited. It is worth noting that it seems the newest firmware has fixed most of the issues that have been reported on the internet #including the signal dropping). That aside, this is a great router so far. It has great signal speed and range. It hasn't dropped a signal yet. I love being able to use the 5 GHz band for my devices that offer that option #note: the range on this band will be about half of the 2.4 GHz band - this is with all routers#. Your other hardware will be the limitation for speed between it and the router, not the router. I used to have "page can't be displayed" messages all the time when going to different web sites and would have to reload pages, but not anymore. It looks great, but is big. It runs much cooler than I expected #people saying the ASUS runs really hot is one reason I went with the Netgear#. The Genie software is easy to use and provides a lot of functionality, including seamless firmware updating. There is even an app you can get for Apple or Android products that gives much of the functionality of the computer version of the software. Set-up was more complicated than I'd like, but this router has much more functionality than any other router I've had. If you are computer literate you will figure it out if you take your time #and the instructions that come with it are pretty good#. It is DLNA compliant which makes it great for playing music over the network on my Pioneer Elite receiver.
