It's AWESOME!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Works great! The extra port for 5G WiFi option is great! Since the 5G option doesn't have as much of a range as the regular option I only use it for WiFi use when I'm in the same room as the router (living room) which works great for me because then I have ultra fast wifi for gaming and fantasy football streaming.

Great recommendation by best buy employee
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This was recommended by Best Buy employee after he took time to understand what I would be using it for (internet/xbox). Although it was more expensive than what I initially plan to spend when I went in the store, it was well worth the extra expense. Our wifi is much faster than it was with our old router.

Great Router
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I love this router! I love that it lets me do so many things! I have a printer plugged into the USB 2.0 slot and a flash drive in the 3.0 slot. I blocked a bunch of ad sites. Set up openDNS. IPv6 is turned off by default so it took a bit of 'digging' through the options to enable it. #it might not be a big deal, but I like having all my options enabled# Otherwise it was very easy to configure for a person like me who is not very tech minded. If you want to get the full range of the router *uncheck* the "Enable 20/40 MHz Coexistence" box in the wireless settings area under the Advanced tab. It hasn't negatively effected my neighbors who I've asked candidly about their connections. Your situation may be different from mine, but do check to see if changing that options gives you a boost. While I have not done so, I appreciate the fact that if I want to add a VPN to the router it is very easy to configure. This again, is very important for a person like me who has minimal computer networking knowledge, but still likes to do things independently.

Glad It's a Fast Router
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. We needed a new router for all our internet-using devices, and after doing some intense research for a couple days, I decided on the Nighthawk. I am not disappointed! The installation was a snap, and the product outperforms my expectations. I always have fast internet, even when streaming Netflix, while playing an online game on my PC and watching a video with my phone, all at the same time. The fact that it has the 5G capability is awesome (everything is going that way anyway!), so it's even better to have some devices on the regular network speed, and have other devices on the faster speed; no lagging that way! Not only that, but it looks like a fighter jet! Really sick. An awesome buy, for sure.

Fast, fast, fast
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Since adding a smart TV and two smart blu-ray disk to our line up of tech products, we found our wireless connections dropping very frequently, streaming movies would stall/ buffer and my sons Xbox would cut off mid games. Our previous router, a Linksys, worked amazingly until just recently. After going online to forums trying to troubleshoot the connectivity issues, it was decided that it could no longer handle the demands of the household that included three ipads, three iphones, a Galaxy S4, a notebook computer, a kindle, a satellite radio, the game plus the three new (smart) additions. We researched what would be the best router to handle all those wireless devices with many of them being in use at the same time and landed on this one. The hubby gawked at the price but agreed to it anyways. I had the router set-up in minutes and decided fairly quickly that this thing is worth its cost. We were zooming at speeds I didn't realize we had. The kids were quite happy with the number of bars they gained while in their rooms where before they had hardly any signal strength. We did a test run with all gadgets on and running for 30 full minutes and we didn't encounter a single issue with speed, loading or buffering. If you are thinking about this router even just a little bit, just bite the bullet and go for it. YOu won't even miss the $200 dollars once you see what this router can do.

Awesome router-good price
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I received this router for free from Netgear to test it out and give a review. The Netgear Nighthawk R700 Smart Wi-Fi Router offers top performance on the 5GHz band, and an excellent set of features. It's also relatively affordable for a top-notch home networking device. I get this router a 9 out of 10

Amazing performance
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Replaced an old Linksys 2.4Ghz router with this one and the difference is amazing. The 2.4Ghz band is twice as fast as the Linksys and the 5Ghz band is three times faster! I'm finally getting all the speed promised by my cable provider (Comcast, 100Mb).

Excellent Router but Pricey
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. My old router died so off the Best Buy for a new one. It's been several years so was kind of stumped at all the available routers on the market now. Have a home based business and my daughters online line a lot so did want a decent one. Did not plan on buying the best, most expensive one but I took the plunge. Wow, from the one I had to this one was like night and day. Our internet actually runs 100% faster with no lag, even when we have 4 computers online and are watching Netflix. Awesome router!! Also, I wasn't looking forward to setting it up since the last one was a pain, but it was virtually plug and play. Very happy I purchased it!

Love everything about this router
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This router is fantastic. It was the easiest setup I've ever encountered with a router. Up and running within 5 minutes. I like the QOS settings. I noticed an increase in speed on my XBOX ONE, PS3 and PC instantly. Only issue I have, is I wish I could turn off all of the indicator lights, as I have this router in my bedroom. So there is a lot of ambient light at night from it, the comparable ASUS router has the ability to turn the indicator lights off for that very purpose. Nothing a little duct tape can't fix.

Excellent WiFi Router.
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I bought this to replace an equivalent Linksys WiFi router that I purchased about 12 years ago (where has the time gone?!?!). It turned out that the old unit wasn't compatible with the new remote log in set up we have at work, so I order this unit and had my wife go pick it up. In a word - WOW! This was a brand recommended by our IT people, so I found this on sale (thanks Best Buy). Once I got it, I assembled it (you need to put the antennae on), followed the setup instructions in the box and I was in business. A word of caution here: Netgear supplies you with a temporary router password so you can log into the router to make adjustments and get connection info. You MUST replace this with your own new password. I discovered this during my review of available WiFi routers. It's a minor annoyance but that's part of living in the "digital age" people and it ensures your home network security. Once set up, the connection is astonishingly fast. Much faster than the previous one. I downloaded a Netgear Nighthawk app on my smartphone and went from room to room checking signal strength. Nothing less than 500 Mbps anywhere. What you get yourself will depend heavily on how fast your service is and the size of your home; you may need local repeaters to ensure top speeds. Reconnected all of our devices and smart TV (now THERE'S an oxymoron), and we were back in business again. This far exceeded my expectations and I am well pleased. I highly recommend this unit for someone looking for a quality WiFi router.

Best performance that I could ask for
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I bought this router after trying several others that were recommended by friends. I went to Best Buy and asked a geek for the best wireless router he could recommend. I could not be more pleased. My family has many different wireless devises so some use the regular band and I use the 5G band for my newer high performance devises. I get better wireless connection speed testing than most get with wired connections. Reliable and great range as well. My neighbor can use it 2 houses down. Love this thing.

Great router
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Easy setup. Great signal strength and speed. Flawlessly streaming blu ray at 40mbps 25ft through one floor with WD ac bridge(which seems to work well) connected to a WD Live TV. Unit does not get too hot even after 25 minutes of continuous streaming. A bonus is greatly improved signal strength and speed on my iphone throughout the house...even when on the 2.4 ghz network. Another bonus is the styling...I think it looks cool!

Upgraded from the D-link 868L, was expecting more
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.First, I should start by saying I am using an XPS 9530 with an AC wireless card, so I am able to utilize the AC band of this router. I upgraded to this router shortly after purchasing the D-link 868L AC1750 router. My reason for doing so was because with my wireless router located in my living room, I was only getting 1 to 2 bars on the AC band in my bedroom. It is worth noting that both routers get outstanding range while on the wireless N band, but AC is a different story. Wanting to fully take advantage of the AC band, I purchased the Netgear Nighthawk to see the difference. While the Nighthawk does show a significant improvement in range (I went from 1 to 2 bars on AC band on the D-link to a consistent 4 bars on AC band on the Netgear Nighthawk), the quality somehow isn’t quite as strong on the Nighthawk. While I was only getting minimal reception in the bedroom on the D-link, the throughput on that reception was STRONG. I was always able to achieve outstanding results on speedtest.net, as well as minimal lag on buffering HD videos. While the results on the Netgear Nighthawk aren’t horrible by any means, I was expecting slightly more impressive results. I'm still unable to maintain a reliable connection strong enough on my iPhone anywhere in the house except the within close range of the router to successfully use my voice over IP apps like Talkatone and Google hangouts phone service through google voice, but that’s not to say this is a bad router by any means. My review thus far has been focused completely on performance of both routers on the AC 5 GHz band. Some of my other older devices do not have AC capabilities, and utilize the wireless N band. And one thing is for sure, both the D-link 868l and the Netgear Nighthawk both really shine in performance and range on the wireless N band. The one main reason I upgraded to the Netgear Nighthawk from the D-link is for the Nighthawks external antennas. I feel they simply provide better range than the built-in antennas you will find on other routers, such as the D-link. Plus, those antennas are always upgradable to further boost signal and range. I like futureproof- and that is why I chose this router. After having using it for a little over a month, I have seen numerous firmware upgrades roll out to it, which I simply love-they are on top of making this router the best it can be. I also love the USB 3.0 port and the other USB 2 port on the rear, very convenient to hook up my flash drives to. This is a big router, I actually wish it wasn’t quite so large. The D-link had a very small footprint and a neat cylinder-like design. This one, though large, is much more aggressive and futuristic looking. I give this wireless router 5 stars because it deserves it. At $50 more expensive than the D-link 868L, it offers similar overall performance with slightly better features. To me, those extra bells and whistles are worth it. I'm pretty happy with this router and would recommend it.

Incredible Speeds
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I've been pretty loyal to Asus routers over the past 5 years, but based on the reviews and slightly lower price to the Asus RT-AC68U I was also considering, I decided to try out this Netgear Nighthawk. Over time, my Asus wireless n router was slowly degrading in wireless reception quality and speed, and figured it was time for a new router. Pros: [+] The wireless speeds I'm getting on this are excellent, and far better than my last router. My internet speeds are 40 down and 5 up, through this router I'm pulling about 34 down and 5 up. [+] Wired speeds are flawless, as should be expected. Getting my full 40 down 5 up over internet, over local LAN am consistently getting gigabit speeds. [+] Love the simultaneous dual-band. About half my electronics support 5ghz wireless and I've migrated them to that channel. My older stuff still uses the 2.4ghz band, and I definitely am noticing better reception compared to having everything on 2.4ghz and competing with each other over limited channels. Right I have my router connecting 2 laptops, 1 desktop, an Xbox One, a Wii U, a Wii, two PS3s, three Xbox 360s, three Android phones, an OUYA, a wireless gateway for my smart garage door opener, sprinkler system, Honeywell RTH9580WF smart thermostat, two Samsung smart HDTVs, and three Chromecasts (one on each floor). Handles everything PERFECTLY! [+] USB support is great, so I can kind of treat my router like a cheap NAS and connect an external hard drive that can be accessed from any device in the house. [+] Super reliable so far. Had it a couple months, handling tons of traffic every day without ever requiring a reboot. [+] This is trivial, but I LOVE the design cosmetically. That combined with the "Nighthawk" branding just makes it feel like you're getting a cool, high-tech product, rather than a boring business device. Cons: [-] Limited DD-WRT support. The stock web interface is quite good and has most features DD-WRT offers, but not all. This of course can change at any time, but as of right now there isn't a stable DD-WRT release for this router that properly uses all hardware features of the router. But not a big deal for now, as I can make do with the stock interface for the time being. [-] USB 3.0 on front of device. Instead of 1 USB 2.0 in back and 1 USB 3.0 in front, it would have made this router basically flawless if they instead just put 2 USB 3.0 slots in the back. Plugging anything into the front just looks so messy, since it means wires coming out of both sides of the device. Conclusion: <3 this router. I might even get a second to replace an older one I'm still using on my upper floor. A lot to love about this and not a lot to complain about. I would highly recommend this router to anyone, especially if you are coming from a single-band wireless g or n router.

It s a powerful router
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I bought this because both my previous routers have failed.. the Linksys E4200 and Netgear R6300.. they worked for a few months but eventually started dropping connections or not connecting to devices in the home. This beast might last longer with my heavy streaming. I use it primarily with my home server to stream movies ranging from 3GB to 20GB to my HTPC upstairs, or laptop, or desktop. Its working great so far, however not anywhere near the advertised speeds, even with the neatgear wireless AC USB card 20' from the router in open space it will only connect at half the advertised speeds. But to be fair... the netgear adapter is poorly designed since its only USB 2.0 so it would max at 480 Megabits/sec not the advertised speed. On the 2.4ghz band its comparable to my old router, which has a better range than the 5.0ghz band. On the 5.0ghz band I am getting a 351megabit connection to my desktop and 500 to my HTPC. My desktop is directly one floor above the router. The HTPC is one floor above and through 1 wall. The 5.0ghz band quickly dies out with any range. The "focusing" antenna is a gimmick IMO, it's the exact same connection speed on all my devices as my last wireless AC router before it had issues. DO NOT EXPECT GIGABIT WIRELESS with this router.. at the distance required to actually connect at a gigabit through wireless you would be in range of a 6' ethernet cable and save $50+ on an adapter... which netgear doesnt make as of this review... only usb 2.0 adapters which will peak at 480Megabits/sec. A plus of the router though is that I can stream 4 different 15GB video files from my sever to my laptops/HTPC/desktop without stuttering, a pretty impressive feat. My hope is that it holds up better than my last 6 routers in the past 2 years.

Expensive and not for the faint of heart
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Connect the router, and was unable to connect to the Internet. After a few tries, it did connect. The next day, the connection was down. So, I replaced the router. The second router would not connect. After substantial trial and error, I finally changed the MTU setting to 1300 from the default 1500. After doing some searching on the Internet, I did find that changing to 1400 would be adequate. The Internet connection is now up and running. Oddly, the configuration on the "Basic" tab of the of the router's configuration is saying that the Internet is down. Sheesh ... I hate being a beta tester for a released product!!! Particularly at the price point for this one. That being said, the router's performance on the wired segment and the wireless segment does seem to be stable and performing as expected; and my expectations are high after doing some substantial research prior to purchasing this router.. Netgear support is abysmal. I attempted to call their support number, and after a number of rings the line went blank with no message #3 attempts#, The chat service took over a half an hour waiting in queue, and when finally supposedly connecting to a representative, the chat was dropped saying that there was no representative available #three attempts#. Opened a case via e-mail support, and received a stupid response with a link to a support web page and related links that I had already researched. I've decided to keep the router for the time being as the performance, particularly on the wireless segment, it the best I've seen. I'm hoping Negear fixes the bugs in the firmware. I also suspect, at least for the short term, a lot of users are going to return this product to the point of purchase because they won't be able to connect to the internet. I also suspect that Netgear is going to get a lot of support calls on this one, and people are going to be upset with the poor support received.

This is the Router to buy!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I bought a Linksys WRT1900AC. Set-up was easy. But Couldn't get my Xbox and Printer to work. Called Tech Support and spent hours on the phone opening ports and everything else. I gave up! Took back and bought this Nighthawk. This router is great! Easy to set-up and everything works with full signal strength in a 3200 sq ft home. I even have great reception outside the house. I would buy this router.

Awesome router. Set up is a breeze
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Purchased to replace a 6 year old router that was not playing nice. Two bands allow higher bandwidth at the cost of range, or minimally slower transfer rate.but greater range. In the 2.4 I can be at the back of the yard and still have connection approximately .25 of an acre. In 5G mode I can use it anywhere in the house. Went from download speed of 60/70 mbs download to 180 and that is due to ISP not the router. Set up was a breeze and the App makes it even easier. Can't recommend enough
