easy set up and performance is pretty good, not much more you could hope for. The more expensive model may have better reach, but this one works great and is lightyears better than my previous router

I bought this router to replace a linksys that I had for about 3 and a half months. In the short week that I've this router I've had better signal and strength than I ever did with my linksys router.

WATCH OUT - Performance great, rest not so good

If there was not a problem with the configuration software I would have given this router a 5 star rating. After much research I decided this was the router for me to replace my combo modem/router. It was certainly more then I wanted to pay but the reviews are great. While the WiFi works GREAT all over my house connecting to the router configuration is LOUSY. I have 2 PCs connected to this router. One is hardwired to router and the other is connected wirelessly. The PC hardwired can connect to the router configuration software by using the IP address or routerlogin.net. The laptop connected wirelessly either times out or connects and the links don't work. Netgear does provide a downloadable "Genie" app but it only provides a minimum connection to the router configuration. It is apparent that this is a major issue as a search on the web gets many hits about this problem and the Netgear forum also has many threads about this issue. Either Netgear purposely refuses to fix the problem or doesn't know how to fix it. I am very disappointed that a major networking equipment vendor can't or won't resolve this issue. I have contacted their support and communicating in English is a major problem or they provide completely unusable solutions also because I think there is a disconnect when using English. I have had this router a few days but I am still hoping that Netgear will come through with an answer but if not its going back to Best Buy.

Not sure if it's hardware, firmware, or just a plain old bad product be weary of reviews giving this 4 or 5 stars don't risk it. The R7000 and D7000 are plagued with a bug issue right now. Some say it's buggy firmware but I've gone three firmwares backwards and the problem with disconnecting devices happens like clockwork almost. So might be hardware. Not sure. I really would scan the Netgear forums before buying this. At least until they acknowledge these have a problem. I'm about to head out to buy a new router. Not a Netgear one.

I bought this for my daughter for her room was at the edge of the Wi-Fi signal from the household router. It improved the signal considerably and she was happy with its capabilities.

I replaced an Asus N900 router. It has been extremely hard to find a router that works good in our large home. This one did the trick! It's GREAT! Anywhere in the house I don't get any lower than 164Mbps throughput. I love the USB 3.0 port! This router is just wonderful! My only complaint is that it makes some scratchy noises like electrical noise. I returned one to the store and the second one makes the same noises. Others have complained about the same thing while others say that their router doesn't make any noise.

You can spend a lot of money on routers now. This one was up there but not the most expensive. It was an easy install and never had any problems with it. I am glad I got it.

    Patience Needed

I had purchased this item once in the past when I was with TWC. I was unable to get any type of connection to work properly and nothing in the instructions manual helped. Returned it shortly after. I moved and decided to try again since I was with a different internet provider (Fairpoint). Had the exact same issues... this time I did not want the hassle of returning it again and needed to get it fixed. I called the company and the lady had me up and running within 20 minutes. First few fixes failed but she finally got me sorted out. Unfortunately I don't remember what exactly the fix was... sorry :/

I've owned this router for 3 years, and for the first two this was a stellar router. But, in the last year it has become very problematic. After the last two software upgrades, it has started to drop connections like crazy, and the 5G connection is completely gone now. Speeds for streaming are not consistent. Guess it's time to replace it, but it wasn't cheap.

    Wireless to be desired.

I have a plethora of devices in my home all using a singular wireless access point. I upgraded from an Apple Timecapsule-v2 (mainly out of frustration with the iOS) and was super excited to pick the "top of the line" router... I was disappointed. The product was easy to set up, configured everything in minutes, access control, wireless channels, DHCP pools, the works. The MAC logging feature it has built in to make joining new devices to the ACL is wonderful so you don't have to dig for addresses on all of your stuff, particularly when a guest comes to visit for more than a few hours. I work from home, and VPN in to work every day, I pass a lot of traffic back and forth, and the router couldn't handle it, and I'd get disconnected fairly often. Considering how much I was passing back and forth, I wasn't terribly surprised, nor upset. My gaming machine sits in the other room, out of the office, and uses a WiFi connection, guess what else was constantly disconnected? My phone, streaming a video for longer than 5 minutes... disconnected, seeing a pattern I adjusted freqs and channels to no avail. Switch back to my 5 year old Apple router, every problem disappeared. On a side note,I did run a long Ethernet cord to my gaming machine, to test it, and it worked fine. I tried enabling the QoS, disabling it and tweaked some internal settings, best I could do was drop my D/C rate to about once every 40 minutes. While a good device, not a great one, and for this price, that's unacceptable.

I've used Linksys Routers for many years and recently decided to try NetGear after reading many great reviews and deciding to upgrade to a AC class wireless router. Overall I've been happy except for the need to run the NetGear Genie app on a desktop connected to the router. This is required to use AirPrint capability. The Genie app is causing my desktop to blue screen constantly. The NetGear approach to using AirPrint is terrible. Never had to do this with a Linksys router.

Do not buy this if you're not willing to tweak the setup. Poor throughput, hard to connect to / login. I bought this in late 2016 based on all the reviews saying this was a top router - PC Magazine etc. How wrong could those reviews be right? Well as it turns out if you search deeper in the net gear forums, there are people who have problems. For e.g. search on "r7000 login problems". Maybe it's a minority of people, or maybe if it was at my home instead of my gf's home, I would have the time to figure it out. I bought this to 'modernize' her router - an Apple AirPort Extreme. Huge mistake - if I reset the router, everything is ok for initial setup, but then my password problems start again. By login problems I mean it behaves like I entered a wrong password. Eventually if I try enough times it works - as in 10-20 times. I've even out of desperation, saved an open tab in iOS Safari once I've been successful getting to the router admin page. Oddly enough that works. To be fair you don't often have to go to router setup once you're done, but when you do -- e.g. when I had to add a new wireless printer -- it's endlessly frustrating and there goes half a morning or afternoon wasted. Unfortunately that's not the end of it -- the biggest challenge is that throughput is poor. As in, even a Speedtest upload test will occasionally fails when you run the app. Ironic when you pay for a 50Mbps connection. Her apartment is small btw - typical small Boston apt. And we're often less than 4 feet from the router. Eventually I suppose we will figure this out - change channels etc, who knows...? I've updated the router regularly in the hope that these problems ease but so far no luck. She's about to move so we'll see if we just give up and go with an ISP-provided wifi router. Who has the time to deal with this? Pros Easy to setup Easy to use interface Cons Difficult to login to product after setup Poor throughput I really miss the old Apple AirPort Extreme for the ease of use Don't get this if you're not willing to troubleshoot and tweak
