If you are a serious gamer and utilize your home network alot for wifi connected devices then this is the unit for you. AC routers are not all created equal and this one has the dual band 2.4 and 5 ghz broadcasting you will need to alleviate network traffic. Also an amazing 2 usb ports that can share its contents with the entire network, or share a printer with the entire network.

I have had this router for about 10 months since started working from home. The speed is good but the signal sometimes just drops out and I'm not sure why. This isn't great when you use your Alexa device as your alarm clock

Purchased the nighthawk in July 2014. It worked well in my home which has multiple devices throughout the home. However, it continues to power on and off after only 13 months of use! For the money I would think it should last longer than 13 months. Very disappointed. No longer purchasing Netgear brand.

Fails to deliver promises by Netgear.... again!

Bought the high end router for gaming and media to replace the WNDR3700v1 that had issues because of firmware upgrades. Out of the box the router seemed to deliver. After a couple of days noticed, WIFI connections would drop and have to be reinitialized. Kept going for a bit. Checked the manufacturer's website, several firmware upgrades were available to try and address the issue. Seemed to be heading in downward spiral, in the attempt to fix one issue, more surfaced. Now facing issues with connectivity, and customer support runs you through the typical run of reboots, re-flashes, factory resets, etc. No fix after three weeks of attempts. I am tired of running tracert, ping, and jumping thorough hoops. Nor do I care for being treated as if though I'm incompetent. Tier 1 support needs to understand when to escalate rather than stonewalling its customers. Now just to be sure I'm not crazy, stuck a spare cisco router I have in it's place and badabing! No issues and heck even no packet loss issues that I was having with the R7000. I want what I paid for a high-end router that works. Why is that too much to ask for? I would suspect many customers that rave about this product are not paying close enough attention to the issues lurking and readily blame the ISP they are using. If possible I want to either swap out with a new, or preferably get a comparable replacement from a different manufacturer. We will see how Elite members are treated.....

    Unreliable

    Posted .

This router drops connections regularly. Netgear is issuing new firmware every month in an attempt to make this router reliable. I'm not sure how some people are having success with this router. Maybe it is a bad batch of them that I got one of. I purchased another model to replace this within 4 months of purchase. I usually keep wifi routers for about 4-5 years. Netgear support is pretty pathetic (but I don't believe that any of the other manufacturers are much better). You just have to find a product that works properly from the beginning and this one doesn't cut it for me and a lot of others.

    Excellent throughput

Picked this up to replace a dark knight series ASUS router. The previous router couldn't candle the throughput of extreme internet speeds(started to bog down around 300mbps) The Netgear router seems to be handling things just fine. some of the fasted wireless speed I have ever had as well. Seems solid and doesn't give off as much heat as I would expect.

The worst router I've ever purchased . Worked fine until the first update in firmware . DO NOT BUY THIS ROUTER! Don't believe me? Google this router name and "keeps dropping connection" and you'll see what I mean. This router drops it's connection dozens of times throughout the day. Had a TP-link router that hardly ever dropped a connection and "upgraded" to this. Thankfully I kept the TP-Link and will be hooking it back up shortly. Through two firmware updates the problems with the Nighthawk have gotten worse, not better. Was a decent router made garbage by bad firmware.

The router has all the functionality you could ever want and especially for gamers with one or multiple consoles is perfect. It has the ability of upnp and will open your ports for both xbox's/ ps even while playing the same game.
