    Goes out consistently

WiFi goes out several times per day and it is only 3 weeks old. Worked with help desk to update firmware and channel, still didn't work. I would suggest saving yourself the trouble and buying something else. I am replacing after only a couple weeks. READ RECENT REVIEWS, mostly bad. Something changed recently with these and they are not operating as well as they used to.

    Great when it's actually working....

Like many others have stated the signal gets dropped, I have had it for 9 days & I'm surprised I have this issue, for this price range I would've thought it to be better. It started dropping at least once a day, I blamed it on my internet but that's not the issue, the router is! Now it's doing it anywhere from 2-6 times a day, it's going back to the store. I have installed the firmware it recommended, & had the first disconnection 30 minutes afterward....not impressed.

    Disappointment

I owned the previous NETGEAR model R6300 and i love it. So i wanted to upgrade and bought this model. I was completely disappointed of its performance. Nothing better than the previous model but it couldn't even keep the connection stable. Connection drop sometimes and very inconsistent. For the 1GHZ processor router, it doesn't do anything better than the previous model. The odd USB 3 is in the front so it is wear to connection to the removable hard drive. It should be in the back instead. Well, if you owned NETGEAR R 6300 then i believe u shouldn't upgrade it to this model because it didn't deliver anything substantial for the upgrade.

    Can’t recommend…

I’m sure this is a good unit but I spent almost three hours on the phone and on my wife’s computer with a Netgear tech guy to set this up. I purchased this to increase my signal strength for screen mirroring between my iPad and smart tv. Now I can’t mirror at all. Should have kept my ten year old Linksys… it worked better but at weaker signal.

    Unreliable / reboots frequently

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

The router reboots frequently, sometimes several times per day. I've taken 2 firmware upgrades already in the less than a month I've owned the thing. The first reboot I noticed happened within my first week of ownership, and I've worked with Netgear support several times since then, with them providing long instructions to help (basically dialing back capabilities), but to no avail. R7000 still reboots. Now, after I've given up on resolving the problem, BestBuy won't take the R7000 back because their return policy is apparently 15 days. Future purchases will be through a company with a better return policy.

    Don't Buy It!

I purchased this router 2 years ago thinking NETGEAR was a reputable brand and have been very disappointed. For the last 6 months it constantly drops the internet connection and goes offline. This happens 3-4 times per day. You go to the Nighthawk app and it indicates the router as "offline". You can connect to it from devices on your network, but they can't get out to the internet. Online comments state you can download and install and old version of the firmware, but I don't have the time to do it. NETGEAR should fix this version! You either have to perform a hard reboot or reboot it from the app and it's annoying. I'm searching for a replacement. Bye bye NETGEAR!

    PAY for tech support

This router worked fine at first. Then today, out of the blue, it stopped working. Modem is running fine, hardwired to the router, but it won't connect to the internet. So I call up the ol' tech support to see what I can do. I promptly find out that after 90 days from the purchase date, they try to SELL you a contract for the privilege of talking to tech support for $149.99. That's correct. For the nominal price of one hundred forty-nine dollars and ninety-nine cents (which is basically the cost of a BRAND NEW ROUTER) you can talk to someone in India who may or may not be able to help you. ARE YOU KIDDING ME? I have never heard of charging for tech support, let alone 150 quid. Ten bucks, I might have done it, but $150?? Now why would Netgear have the need to charge for tech support? Were they so overwhelmed with people calling in with broken routers that they were losing their shirt and had to instigate a tech-support paywall? Or did some MBA brainiac have the epiphany that when Netgear's products stop working, that it isn't a problem, but a revenue stream?? Bottom line, give your hard earned money to a company that will stand by what it makes. Netgear just laughs all the way to the bank.

Nighthawk app trashed my Motorola android

This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

The only instructions to setup this router requires downloading the netgear nighthawk-app to your phone. No manual, no link to a webpage. After finally seemingly getting the app on my Motorola to talk to the router and get it configured, my phone no longer could find any wifi networks. Eventually I connected an ethernet cable to the router to complete the setup using 192.168.1.1. I had to hard reset my mobile. Very poor netgear software app and crummy instructions

    Overpriced and doesn't work well

I was looking to upgrade from my Netgear N600 router. The salesguy at the store talked me into buying the Nighthawk AC1900 model above. The internet speeds on my main computer dropped considerably when I hooked to new router up. (From average 35-45 mbps to rarely more than 10). The next day, I switched back to the old router, and speeds were back up again. This one is expensive, it's an eyesore, and it performs no better (in fact, even worse) than an outdated $50 model.

Wifi Signal Drops Way Too Often

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

I was very excited about getting a new router since my old one was a $20 wifi router years ago and it was clearly time for that one to go. I decided that having a fast and stable connection were well worth the cost of a premium router so I decided to go with the Nighthawk AC1900. The first one I bought was okay but the signal still dropped about 2 or 3 times a day. So I returned it and got a new one. The new one acted about the same, 2 to 3 drops a day. This was back in Dec/Jan when I got it, but I kept it since it was still somewhat usable. Now that it is April, it is starting to drop anywhere from 10 to 20 times a day making it almost unusable for work or for gaming. I'm not sure if it's the fact that I live in an apt and the router can't handle all of the signals around me, but this router just does not do the job. I've tried updating the firmware, channel selection is on auto, and it can't maintain a stable connection. Even when I hard wire into the router, I get drops just as often as if I were on wifi. I've tested the internet without the router and everything goes without a hitch. Not sure what I'll do with this as I can't return it anymore and I don't want to send it in for repairs and have to go without internet for a week as I need it for work. Overall, this router doesn't do the job.

    Only good for 3 months

I Bought this router last year. 3 or so months after while in use I started experiencing wifi and ethernet connection trouble. I called Tech support and they put a bandaid on the problem because 1 week later I was having the same problem. My 90 days of free tech support ran out during this week. With my kids having online classed I decided to buy another router. after months I decided to call Netgear again to see what we could do about the problem. The lady on the phone pretty much told me that I had to pay to get a tech to help me. She said that my router was not having hardware problems so they couldn't replace it. as of writting this review I am still under warranty. I really can't believe that Netgear charges you to help you fix their defective products. I had the exact same router as this for 3 years before it died on me and never had a problem with it. Do not buy Netgear!!! they have no faith in their products and expect for you to pay them (after 90 days) to help you fix it.

Worked wonderfully 1 year ago...Not anymore

I bought this Netgear R7000 Nighthawk router in late 2016/early 2017 from Best Buy. It worked wonderfully well for about a year or so. Once I made the mistake of upgrading the firmware (for "security fixes"), the WiFi performance degraded significantly. It's to the point that it's much faster for me to use the data plan on my cell phone provider, rather than go through my home's WiFi connection. And I'm paying for a very high-speed connection at home. I've tried resetting the router to factory settings, and turning off add-on features, but the WiFi is still uber slow and painful. Several other users have posted similar stories on Netgear's support boards, but there's no answer from Netgear if they're ever going to solve the problem.

Does not work well at all

I'm kicking myself for spending $150 on this router instead of getting a google mesh system. The router hasn't worked well since the day we got it. I've tried updating the firmware, changing settings, nothing seems to help. It often drops the signal, and even devices that are literally right next to it get weak signals. I would strongly not recommend this router.

    terrible range

i use this router in a small apartment. the performance in the living room where the router is is great. however, i get no signal at all from my bedroom. my bedroom shares a wall with the living room. i have a full five bars where i am right now, on my couch. if i go to the bedroom, literally ten feet and one wall, no bars.....none. the cheapo router provided by my isp is better. now i have to spend another $130 on a range extender or return this near useless product. all because it can not send a signal through one wall 15 feet away to my nightstand anther 10 feet away. not sure how they could bring this product to market. certainly not sure how they can sell it for $200!!! I'm also not sure who these people are or how much they are paid to say it has outstanding range. i promise you it does not. if you buy this you will be disappointed. to be very clear, my computer, mid grade toshiba laptop, is two weeks old, essentially a brand new ac computer paired to a brand new ac router....no signal. my cell, samsung galaxy s4, also gets no signal from this router in the bedroom. like i said our old router provided by charter gave us 4 to 5 bars anywhere in the apartment. i sincerely hope this review saves someone time, hassle, frustration, and money.

Worked initially, firmware update broke it

This product worked great until a firmware update was released, causing it to crash once per day. Even with Netgear’s admins confirming the problem from that their recent updates caused the issue, Netgear refused to help with correct instructions to install new firmware. They also refused to provide any real support without additional payment, even though my product is still under the one year warrantee. In addition, “Gavin” (employee ID 43250716) hung up on me without calling back. It is too bad since it was a great router/modem before that point. Strongly recommend avoiding this product.

    Very disappointed in this router

This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

I'm not new to setting up routers. I've been doing this for about fifteen years. So, I was not at all intimidated by the Netgear Nighthawk. Well, it was easy to set up and get an Internet connection to my two MacBooks, one (wired) Dell PC and one external (VoIP phone) device, even the port light for the latter read "error". After that it went down hill: 1) One Ethernet connected device (Insteon lighting control hub) would never connect. 2) Squeezebox (Internet radio) "saw" the wireless network (full signal), but kept telling me my password was not accepted. 3) The shared printer, USB'd to the router would work on only one PC/Mac at a time. If one would print, the others wouldn't, and when it did print, it was extremely SLOW... up to five minutes from time of submission to actual printing, with the printer's light flashing all the time. 4) The Netgear's network would actually "disappear" from time to time on computer displays and I'd have to find it and reconnect! I don't doubt the many excellent reviews and that this router is good for some people, but its support of Internet "appliances" and the confusing way it handles the printer setup are non-starters for me. It's going back TODAY. Very disappointed.

Man, I did not Believe Netgear engineer did with new firmware, it cause my 2.4g crawling , unusable on suffing internet this is just 2 nd day since I bought it. Plus the port forwarding did not worked, cause me promptly return it to Best Buy for a refund, I still had a slower Netgear router I can use for now. I had tried 2 different models of New Netgear hoped for the better but they are not. Netgear on their way for self destroy their reputations. I will go different company for my next router for sure.

Can't access net gear's router login (sometimes can sometimes can't). Call center sucks and the people are rude at times. 1.5 hours with tech support and not resolved. When you call them get ready for a 30 min wait every time. I'm taking it back to best buy and trying the Asus RT-AC68U' I'll follow-up with a revive of the Asus..
