    Speed drops considerably each week...

This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

Have a 200 MB connection, and a few days as week I get about 225-230 which is great, but randomly 2-3 times a week, it will drop to 1M, or has even dropped to 500K a few times. Its unreliable!! I've tried multiple patches, and they all do the same thing. The newest patch will only get me to abbout 140MB of a 200MB connecton, but still dropps out several times a week. Seems to be a HARDWARE issue, and Neither Netgear, or Best Buy will replace this unit. Total GARBAGE!!

    Internet keeps dropping

Do yourself a favor before you buy this product. Google internet drop after firmware update on R7000. Customers are very frustrated with this product. I had to install Advance Tomato, a third party firmware for it to work. Really embarrassing for Net Gear.

Started out as a good router

I've had this for a little over six months and now it's just a nightmare. The wireless will drop devices and cause all kinds of wireless device issues. Communication between devices will fail. Solution, reboot it. The problem is now, I have to reboot it daily, sometimes twice a day. I started to do research and it's a common issue with this router. Search for reviews on Amazon for this device. Some folks have got some nice detail. So now I need a new reliable router. AGAIN.

It is a FAIR router it has its days but not as great as you would expect. Customer support is awful. I will never buy another Netgear product again. I have never dealt with such helpless unprepared people in my life and because of this experience Netgear lost a customer forever. Will not recommend it to anyone. STAY AWAY!!

Terrible Service with an Issue-Ridden Product

This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

I was very pleased with this router until it started frequently dropping the 5ghz band a few times a day. A lot of devices can't even discover it anymore. My ISP was adamant it wasn't an issue on their end, so I check with Netgear support, and, well... there may as well be none. They were confident they knew the issue, but you have to pay for a $80 minimum subscription service for them to help fix it. And what happens when they're wrong, and it's a hardware issue? Who knows, but I'm not keeping this router long enough to find out. I attempted every fix I could find online for their suggested "IP conflict issue," and even factory reset it, but nothing's changed.

    Will try one more time

Set up with Modem purchased at the same time yesterday. Called Netgear for directions on set up. Called the first time, went through the modem set up, had to call Century Link again (As per Netgear person), Centurylink said that Netgear should have what I need to install and setup the modem and router. Called back netgear, got another tech who was very helpful this time, and after almost 2 hours, he finally said I had a bad router, but we did get the modem to work. I have to return the router (R7000) to BB and try again. If it don't work, BB gets both the router and modem back. I bought both last night, but was to tired to attempt the install, so not being a tech type person, I knew I should call for directions and guidance. I think their easy install is for experienced people, not us "Baby Boomers" who weren't born with a laptop and tech stuff.

The unit was reliable before software update

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

Netgear latest software download that was pushed to customers has killed my unit and the Netgear support says that it has happened because I upgraded the software while the unit was in the network and connected to my network switch (which is also Netgear). Do you believe that one?!! (mind you that no such warning was sent out with the new software availability and download notices) So they send these upgrades without checking and they do not accept any responsiblity. That is not a trustworthy company. Beware that this could happen to you also. The $200 Router is now useless because there is no way to reset it or downgrade it back to the older software/firmware. And they dont accept any responsibility or offer any help.

i purchased this router to upgrade the netgear R6300v2 . This past weekend i did a firmware update and now its toast. Having a family of 5 i scrambled and dusted off the R6300 and sent it back into action. Enter problem #2.... the R6300 wont update its firmware now ( to many updates/fixes since retirement) I tried routerlogin.net and the "netgear genie" , which keeps timing out on me. My only hope .... pay netgear $89 to help me.... no thanks , better to invest that $89 into another BRAND!!

Buy the ext warranty. Get a free one in 15 months.

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

Absolute trash. The good reviews are premature. 12 month warranty is a kick in the teeth when the product fails in the 15th month. No devices in my home will connect and stay connected reliably. One of the “antennas” doesn’t even connect to anything. There is literally no wire connected to it. Try it. Pull the far left antenna off. See that? It’s just for looks. I am so disgusted and tired of getting taken for the same old ride by companies with once-reputable names. The consumer, us, the people, work so much harder for our money than the clowns that run the companies that take it.

    The Honeymoon is over

It worked great at first, then the trouble started. Wireless disconnects regularly. Then I started loosing wired connections. The disk drive won;t stay mounted/connected and usually the transfer rate is so slow that it is worthless. After looking in the WD Community Forum (http://community.wd.com/t5/My-Net-Networking-Devices/bd-p/network_devices) for an answer, I found several threads related to these issues. None of them had a viable solution. I found 1 thread called, "N900 Central - Failure at its best - Next steps?". It is marked as solved. The solution, "My solution, that has worked 100% of the time is to purchase a linksys or a netgear router.". Since WD support had replies in the thread, I assume they approved and closed the thread. I think I am going to upgrade from wireless-N to wireless-AC, and not a WD brand. I have not had luck with other WD products.

Great product performance overall. The only issue is that it started resetting around the three month mark. I had purchased GSP and was thankfully able to exchange it for an ASUS AC 1900 that works just as well.

very hard to set up, and lack of support

First I will admit that I had this product for quite sometime. I never took it out of the box for 18 months. I needed help setting it up. The set up was grueling. Since I had it so long I would have to pay to get any support. I was very surprised by this. I took it back since I had the geek squad on it. On a side note, get the geek squad protection on everything over $100.00 its worth it. I cannot recommend this product because of the immense difficulty trying to set it up. There is no phone support without setting up an account, and there is very little web help. Make your own decision but I will not be purchasing another NetGear router.

    WIFI Killer

This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

Keeps dropping wifi many times a day with no help from netgear. I warn do not buy this router or any version of it. You will buy another one within one year or go crazy contacting netgear for help and even get charged for it. Several other reviews also report this very same problem. These routers have an affirmative firmware issue that they cant resolve. Even the hard wired ethernet connection drops to the gateway. Constantly power cycling router to restore service. I am a communications network technician and have triple verified this router as defective.

never worked right, have to wait for replacement

Wish I could say mine worked like the majority of reviews, but no. Have owned it for a month and has never worked for 2 days in a row. Router drops internet intermittently and has to be rebooted. Have done extensive troubleshooting with Netgear customer support 3 times and nothing changed. Now they are replacing but I have to ship defective unit and wait for the replacement. We will have no wireless router in the meantime. That’s lousy customer service.

worked fine for a couple months and then wouldn't work. Netgear after several troubleshooting sessions said they would replace it but shipping the defective unit and then waiting for a new one meant I'd be without router for weeks. I felt for two hundred dollars it should have been mailed next day since it was still under warranty. Better yet Best Buy should have replaced it and send the defective unit to Netgear.
