Customers are saying
Customers praise the Nighthawk X10 AD7200 Tri-Band Wi-Fi Router for its impressive range, strong performance, and ease of setup, resulting in excellent coverage and signal strength, great for streaming and other demanding applications. However, some customers note that the router is expensive and large, and a few have experienced issues with the firmware. Despite these drawbacks, many users find the improved speed and reliability worthwhile.

BEWARE! 90 DAYS TECH SUPPORT $139 after that!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I bought a Netgear Nighthawk for almost $300 10 months ago. It died and after months after trying to get a human being to respond they wanted me to agree to $139 MINIMUM for tech support extension, even though the warranty is for 1 year. They wasted hours of my time and wanted my credit card to proceed with a call. Unbelievable! My 8 year old CISCO still pumping, I just wanted to upgrade, Disgusting business practice.

Netgear's worst product
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is by far the worst Netgear product I have owned. I have owned several Netgear routers and I have been mostly happy with my experience. I wanted to get a more powerful router since I know have 1gbps internet service. From the start, I struggled to get 100mbps through wifi on all my new devices. My devices are several Apple iPhones, a Mac Book Pro, and Mac Book Air. Each one of them refused to get the proper link speed to get the most out of the router. I have spent a tireless amount of time on the phone and internet with Customer Service, Tech Support, Level 2 and Level 3 engineers to tell me each time to review the same steps over and over. After countless hours and several weeks with no answers of the cause of the slow speed, I eventually ask for them to put me into a product that works for me and Netgear refused. I am ashamed to have wasted $400 on their "top of the line" and "future proof" router. If you want great range and terrible wifi speeds from your router then this is your router. Congrats Netgear you lost a fan today and I'll never recommend your products to anyone. This router might work for non-Apple products, but for Apple products, I would steer clear. You will get nothing but disappointment and frustration from

Worst router software ever
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. So, this is a nice piece of hardware, and I understand why a lot of people like it. It will definitely give you pretty fast WiFi. Unfortunately Netgear did the absolute minimum with the software in this product to make the average consumer happy at the cost of security, configurability, and features this router could easily handle that were left out out of pure laziness as far as I can tell. The admin interface doesn't support HTTPS at all, the OpenVPN service can't be customized at all beyond port numbers and TCP/UDP and relies on a static key that comes from the factory and can't be changed through the admin interface. By the way... !!! THIS MEANS EVERYONE WHO OWNS THIS ROUTER AND TURNS ON OPENVPN IS OPENING THEIR HOME OR OFFICE NETWORK TO ANYONE WHO HAS THAT VERY EASY TO GET STATIC KEY !!!... See this forum post (marked solved but it is not solved): https://community.netgear.com/t5/Nighthawk-WiFi-Routers/X10-R9000-cannot-regenerate-or-invalidate-VPN-credentials/td-p/1471975 So... buyers beware. This router is fast but has very bad stock firmware with a nice coat of paint on it. I'll be trying to load something else on it. I would strongly suggest an ASUS product instead or really anything not Netgear.

Nighthawk ..more like Nightmare
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I Bought this router based on the over 70% 5 star review ratings. It was a total disaster. I have been a computer tech for over 20 years. I think i know how to forward ports on a router. I opened the ports for forwarding .. and it was very buggy and slow. Also a lot of lag in just surfing. I had to refresh web pages several times to get them to open. This is after cleaning out my browsers history to boot. Has decent range even through metal siding, but speed tests were very inconsistent on a 940/35 internet connection. Most of the time it was actually slowing things down. And don't even get me started on the Genie app. What a mess. Constantly opening dos command windows one after the other as fast as close one .. another pops up. Also was a pain to get it to uninstall. I tried Netgear years ago ... and found them to not be any good. Guess what ... their still junk!!!! This is what i get for not using Asus. I have had good luck with Asus for the most part. I am going to return this router ASAP and get an Asus router. I am done with Netgear... What a sinking mess and nightmare...

Died within 40 days
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I purchased this router with the hopes of using it for many years to come however, within 4o days, it died. I had my ISP come out, suspecting I was having a connection issue and nope, it was 100% the router. I barely got decent speeds as well, having gigablast service. I just don't think this router is where it needs to be at. I got the Linksys EA 9500 and wow, this router blows the X10 out of the water with speed. Im easily hitting 700+ speeds on the 5g signal using my MacBook Pro. I highly recommend the Linksys over the Nighthawk.

So far this has the strongest WiFi coverage

Great if you don’t use WiFi>:(
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Fast as heck..... when it works. Have owned for a few months and it constantly drops WiFi. It’s a know problem and Berger’s doesn’t seem to care. Just check their forums and you’ll see they are flooded with people having the issue that their 400- 500 dollar router is useless for WiFi. Multiple firmware revisions have been released and no fix available. They tell you “oh just disable port scan and dos protection should work”. ... really!? Your “may work” answer is making my network vulnerable. This will be the last netgear product I purchase.

Not so good
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I read many reviews about how great this router was before purchase and it initially delivered on that promise. Ater a few days all the wireless signals would continually drop throughout the day. I was having to reset the router several times a day. I returned for the same model thinking it was a lemon, but the new router had similar issues. I tried troubleshooting with my modem, computer, etc... to no avail. I did some researching how to fix the issue and found out this is a common problem for the router. I exchanged it again for an Asus AC5300 and now everything works properly.

Terrible customer service
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Bought the router and Netgear support will be hosted from India. Not only that, you cannot find a 1-800 support # on their website. Product went back for a return. Not worth the money!

Amazing features but faulty basic functionality
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The best feature rich router you can buy. The only down side...IT DOESN'T WORK. Seriously, netgear can't figure out why this router keeps randomly restarting the wifi hardware. Do a quick google search and you will find hundreds of threads asking Netgear to fix the issue. Also, the built in PLEX system doesn't work because the router isn't powerful enough to support it. Netgear support doesn't have an ETA for the wifi restarting issue so until they do, this is a paperwork. Do not buy!

Unresolved problem from Netgear
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I bought this R9000 July 2017 from Bestbuy and its nothing but trouble. All wired connection drop on daily basis and only way to fix it is reboot. Netgear sent me the replacement which does not change anything. Upgrading and downgrading firmware multiple times does not resolve the issue either. Spent hours on phone with support didnt help either. Netgear forum is flooded with same issues and they couldnt find a resolution. Unless they come up with new firmware, I am stuck with $400 piece of junk.

Not as expected.
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have the r8500 and it’s output is a lot greater. The r9000 2.4 ghz is less. The 60ghz is not supported by anything yet except for netgear own routers which are only 2 including the r9000. So no use for this yet which advertising the max output of the router to be a future feature, something that may never catch on considering the 60ghz band is very very limited in range. So why come out with tech that is much less than what is already on the market? Plus the bandwidth is not even something that will ever be needed or reached. The Plex media server can really only handle up to 720p. Any greater you get blips and stuttering. All the online reviews I read say this is the best router out there and I fell into that scam. It’s just a router with a high price tag stamped on it to get your money and trick you into thinking it must be the best for the money you spend. I could go on and on about the draw backs but just not worth it. I like netgear and I think there routers are the best but just have to find the right one for you.

Not Worth the Price
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I would be considered a tech enthusiast, I am not a professional techy but I am well equipped and love the latest and greatest technology. I have a netgear AC1900 router and I was looking to upgrade hoping for better range and/or speed. This router gave neither. Even being right next to this router it was 100mb/s slower than the AC1900? (I have a 350mb/s connection) I couldn't believe it. I tested several times checked settings and firmware. I guess its worth it if you need the extra features, but when it comes to speed or range it was not worth the upgrade in my case.

Netgear support is garbage
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Had to call tech support to get this router to work out of the box. Around six months later, got a notification to update the firmware, so I did. Afterward, I noticed huge swings in connection quality. It was only after looking up the issue that I found out Netgear recommends a factory reset after firmware upgrades (sidenote: every tech support person from my ISP says this is unheard of). So I did the factory reset, and then the router absolutely refused to communicate with my modem. So I called Netgear tech support. After waiting 20 minutes for someone to answer, the guy looked up my account and said, "Oh, uh...it looks like you're outside of our 90-day free tech support window, so you can either pay $150 for six months of support, $275 for a year of support, or $50 for a one-time incident." I told him thanks, but no thanks. Three calls to my ISP's tech support, downloading custom firmware and probably 20-30 properly-done power cycles later, and I gave up. Bought a LinkSys instead, which magically recognized and communicated with my modem (i.e., did what routers are supposed to do). Never buying Netgear again.

Disappointment
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I returned it to BestBuy after 11 days of trying to make it work. To start, the wi-fi speed of my old Nighthawk R7000 and of the Nighthawk X10 are the same. I think that there are some exaggerations about the claims stating blazing speeds of the X10. The worst part was that I would constantly lose Internet connection and a message stating, "To avoid conflict with your Internet Service Provider, your router's IP address has been updated to 192.168.1.1." I called Netgear, which they were prompt to help me, and they guided me through some settings that were not complicated to execute. The router work for about a day. Two days later, the router did the same thing four times in one day and within minutes from each event. I searched the Internet for this issue and there are no clear answers to why is this happening and Netgear, granted they were courteous and willing to help over the phone, clearly does not have a fix for it. The box is labeled with CNET's editor choice, which in the past I have use several times to elect my purchases and I have been pleasantly surprised, but not this time. I don’t know if CNET’s reviews are correct and I just bumped into a bad unit. Quite a disappointment.

DO NOT BUY NETGEAR!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. After spending $400.00 for what should be a "good" router, I end up with a device that drops all WiFi devices multiple times a day. I have changed firmware multiple times, and followed every link that I can find with similar problems to no avail. Since this problem didn't start until after the 90 day free phone support, I'm told by Netgear that I have to PAY even more money in order to possibly fix my issue, and that until you exhaust all troubleshooting steps(read pay more money for tech support), you cannot RMA the device. So, unless you have money to burn, stay away from Netgear and their so-called support.

Netgear has a problem with this router
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Time and talent to remap my network with about 50 connections, phones, windows 10, printers, ipads etc. Loved the Genie and remote access tools. PROBLEM: R9000 router disconnects all users multiple times during each day. LAN and WiFi connections are interrupted for seconds or a few minutes. Very frustrating for printing, scanning, and any web apps! Netgear Forum on the R9000 has 26 postings to this problem since March 2018. Why haven't they fixed it? Returning to Best Buy. I will not replace this with another NETGEAR...OH, by the way. Spent a long time with phone support on the R9000. The final resolve? Take the router back to best buy and get your money back!!! True.

Terrible Support by Netgear
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have been working with Netgear for more than a year now to get them to fix bugs on the Attached Devices / QOS / Bandwidth screen. They have failed to fix it even after FINALLY putting me in contact with higher level support. I have captured numerous logs for them, tried many different beta firmwares and they are still completely clueless as to why the Attached Devices screen doesn't work properly. The wifi range of this router is pretty impressive, but some of the advanced features that I paid dearly for in the cost of this router and expected to work don't work properly. I wish I could get my money back. I gave them a chance and they completely failed to deliver.

Overpriced
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Purchased and less than year later regret. Wifi frequently drops and warranty support is non existent. Was given an rma and netgear said they have no units because of high demand returns. Been trying to get mine returned for 2 weeks. Been poor performing since I purchased. Plex is great when it works.

Not Secure
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. We needed more ports and decided to upgrade our router. We purchased one and tried doing the same port forwarding as our ASUS router and it would not work so we called support. After being on the phone with them for a while they told us to take it back, so we did and just exchanged it for a new one. Well this one is also having the same issues and to top it all off you can still log in with the default passwords, even though we changed them. We also tested it with an off network computer and we were still able to access it and make changes to our configurations and such. If security is important to you, I would avoid this one.
