Difficult installation
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Installation was very challenging even if you're somewhat tech savvy, and getting the correct settings was a several hour nightmare. We purchased what we felt was a more powerful, better (and more expensive) unit and have been very disappointed in performance. It serves its purpose of routing but certainly not worth the price or the hassle.

Worked great...when it worked.
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I bought this and set this up as directed in the instructions. It kept disconnecting me from the internet. I had to call customer service numerous times in a few days to get it to connect. After a few hours, no internet again. I took it back and bought an Asus that has been awesome the whole time.

Poor Speeds
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I bought this with the Arris 6183 modem for Cox Internet service. I was paying for the 300 mb/s package. At first running when I was running the speed tests on my device I was only receiving about 10-15 mb/s download speed. Thinking it was just my service, I called Cox and it was neither my service nor my modem. My modem was receiving full speeds. I determined it was the router and I tried calling Netgear but their customer service is useless. I decided to exchange it the Luma whole home wifi system and so far I'm receiving my full speeds. I will not buy another Netgear product because I did not have a good experience and their customer service is awful.

Sucks
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I could never get the parental controls to work. The only thing I liked was the ability to remotely control it. I wasted my money.

So far so awesome.
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I was coming from a motorola Arris all-in-one Surfboard AC unit that I had purchased a few years ago and while it worked great compared to what I had at the time, it has since been extremely lacking in throughput, range, and stability. You know, basically all the most important things you need a router to do. I also happened to have a standard surfboard docsis 3.0 modem without the wireless laying around, so I decided to hook that up and get a dedicated wireless router. I used to use an Apple Time Machine as well for a dedicated router, but that thing has also lacked power/range for my house and it's on it's last leg anyhow. After much deliberation and some chit-chat with the sales reps at the store, I pulled the trigger on the X4S. I had my sights on the X6 or the X8, but they convinced me on the X4S as it saved me a bit of money and it seems to have 95% of the capability for 75% of the price. Setup was ridiculously easy. Follow the quick startup guide to get things moving and do the firmware updates. You can set it up like you would for everyday use then navigate to it in the web browser to tackle the firmware and other setup features. I have left mine in basically stock trim for the moment and I don't see anything in the house skipping a beat. Usage: Wow. This thing is a beast. I actually have it in my basement due to the coax locations and proximity to high usage devices and it can still blast 5G to the whole house (3000 sq ft) and stream netflix to the far opposite corner without missing a beat. It's really that good. I have it set up in just about the worst location and it's just cruising along. We have 4 people in the house, so lots of phones, tablets, laptops, TV's, etc. This is the kind of router I love: one that you turn on, set up, and forget that it's even there. I'll try to remember to update this later on, but so far this thing is definitely worth the price of admission, especially if you have a heavy usage household and need some serious range.

Waste of time
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I bought this on sale to replace my older netgear n750 router. It would not setup or recognize my cable modem. After manually setting up the router it was working. By the time i started to set up the cell phones password it stopped working. I took it back to get another thinking it was a defective unit. The second one would not workz at all. After spending all day sunday i took it back and got a lynksys. It setup and worked within minutes of installing. What a dissapoinent. Dont buy. Youve been warned.

Not so good
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I've owned netgear products for a lot of years and been very happy.Maybe there was something wrong here but this router wasn't reaching where my netgear nighthawk R7000 did,and it wouldn't hook up to my netgear n900 gaming adapters ,so I returned it,just so happened I came across an ASUS Rt-ac3100 at a$100.00 discount and bought it,has been working great.Would I buy netgear again, yes in all the netgear routers I've owned(7),this was the first one that I had problems with.

Not a great router
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I was excited to get this router. It's supposed to be an excellent router for people who are into gaming. It was great until the latest firmware update. Once the update was done the wifi no longer worked. I had to go back into the router and revert back to the previous firmware to get it to worm again. I am disappointed in the fact we can't keep it up to date as it completely makes the router useless.

Could not get this to work
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I purchased this as a wireless access point since the modem I had kept dropping my connection. This router requires a connection to the internet to be able to configure it. With out that connection, it is useless. How do you configure it to communicate with the internet if you can not get it to talk to the internet. I called support and that was a complete waste of my time. I still have not gotten this to work and regret purchasing it.

Returned. Never worked right
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Sorry Netgear. After three weeks of nightmares with Netgear support I finally had to return the R7800 nighthawk. Even after numerous hours of attempted support, even the customer support agency couldn't get it going right. It was returned to Best Buy, for a different model and I got it up and running with no problems at all and it works great. I would not recommend the R 7800 to anyone
