In our home we have around 20 connected devices. So far this router has handled it flawlessly. It also has given us 5g coverage in portions of the house that have never had wifi coverage before. Overall I am extremely happy with this purchase.

    Disappointed

I purchased the Nighthawk router based on the good reviews, but it's been a disappointment. My wife's laptop was constantly having issues connecting to the internet. After wasting hours trying to figure out if it was her computer or our network, I decided to go a different route. I purchased the eero three pack and all my troubles are behind me.

Bought one today. really excited after reading some the good reviews online here and on other websites. But after several failed attempts it would not work. It would not recognize my modem. Gonna take it back try one more time. Other wise I'm gonna go with another brand.

    No advanced network/router features

Can't return this quick enough. No READYcloud service, no VPN service, no routing table, no.... Wow. Yes it's a combined modem and router and yes the antennae range is better than say an R7000 Nighthawk but this thing is a stinker if you want any advanced router features. Refund my $400 please and I'll spend $180 on a Netgear Docsis 3.1 modem only. I long ago changed my access points to ubiquiti/unifi AC-AP-Pros so I only use the netgear router for true router functions, not wireless access. Ugh. Beware if you a network engineer with any knowledge.

    5 Ghz Connection not stable

Over all good router with easy installation. But not worth price and hype. Using this router now for more than a week . All devices connected to 5 GHz band all of sudden got disconnected twice and not able to recognize band/connect to it .. however same devices are able to connect to 2.4 Ghz band easily. Bestbuy technical support also has no clue why this is happening. Both time after doing power ON/OFF on router, same device could recognize and connect to 5 GHz band again. Did not expected this from Netgear 2016 flagship ... earlier switched to Netgear from Asus. Cons :: 1) Limited range 2) 5 Ghz connection not stable.

Stay away from nighthawk. I bought this router with high hopes and to only have them crushed by this dud. After countless times and help from tech support i was unable to get this router to connect to the internet. I plugged up my old router and it worked like a charm. Why pay 200 plus dollars for routers that don't work. My friend had the same problem with nighthawk not working as well. Stay away.

    Customer Service Scam

I imagine the router is as advertised, but I'm not going to keep it long enough to find out. Here's why. I contacted customer support when I had trouble getting the router set up. Eventually I was asked for my phone number so tech support could call me, which they did. Almost immediately it appeared the guy, from India, was more interested in selling me on a maintenance plan than he was in helping me with the current problem--then it got worse. After giving him access to my machine, he seemingly discovers my machine is full of viruses, and there are countless people hacked into my machine, and the only way he can help me get hooked up is I needed to pay him $190 to clean out my machine. I hung up. Spent a few more minutes and had the router running in no time. I went on line to look at other people's experiences with NetGear support--turns out this is a very common practice. Many customers state it appears the routers are "designed" to fail right after the warranty runs out so the customer will have to call for support--then the fun begins. I'm going with a different router and company.

Drops connections. Netgear can't fix it.

Save your money. Netgear has had a serious firmware problem going back several releases. Wireless connections drop multiple times per day. Two firmware updates to "fix" the problem have failed to do so. No support from Netgear. I spentover $200 on this modem, and less than 6 months later I'm going to buy another brand. I work from home and can't afford multiple outages every day.

    Firmware update leaves product defective

This is the second NightHawk R7800 to fail after a firmware update. Netgear offers a 90 day free phone support and afterwards wants to charge for service which means after paying for the router you must pay just to get the unit sent back for replacement. Buyer Beware!!!!
