I found this to be the best router for my application. At first anyway! If you don't check for updates on a regular basis, the router slows down and the range drops off drastically. Now after two years my last update deleted all but one channel at 2.4 mh. I lost all my 5 gig channels. Because I am out of warranty customer service won't help. Public form states this is a problem with these units and no fix is available. I bought this a little over a year ago but Netgear claims I bought this 2 years ago.

I bought this in hopes that I would gain better WIFI performance. It was the opposite. My connection seemed slower and there were intermittent breaks in the signal.

They want reviews before you have time to try the system.

DO NOT BUY THIS ROUTER THERE IS A REASON IT GOES ON SALE SO MUCH! If I could give zero stars I would. I have had to factory reset this router at least 50 times, receive inconsistent speeds and random disconnects. The support you get for 60 days is absolutely worthless because the reps are from other countries and literally are impossible to understand not to mention they will waste hours of your time troubleshooting the same things you already have and never admit that the product is faulty. By far the worst company I have ever tried to work with and will never buy another Netgear product again. Best Buy knowingly sells defective products and it’s clear when you notice the same things going on sale for at least 30% off then back up to full price again. This router is about 7 years old and should be 150 bucks tops seeing as its 5g bands never work and I have to hardwire literally everything possible if I want to have somewhat normal connection.

I'm not a gamer, but I live in an old home that has dead spots. I didn't feel this router helped with getting a better reception out to all the rooms.

I have been using Netgear router for 13 years and this one is the first time i have had a bad experience with one, I recommend Netgear to anyone that asks what i recommend, but this router i have to tell people to avoid it.. I have a complex setup and my r7000 handled my setup much better than this r8000 does. the r8000 can only go a couple of days before device start saying they have no internet connection and i have to reboot it to correct the issue. having UPNP crashes the router so everything connected to it (wired or wireless) get disconnected and it needs to be rebooted. I have updated to most current bios also.

Still have problems streaming movies in the basement had hoped this would be resolved with new device. I may have better off with a device that had a dead spot terminator included with the device. I do like the netgear genie app for my phone.

I bought this on the recommendation of a Geek Squad technician who said it would provide WiFi coverage for my entire home. It may be a nice router but definitely didn’t give me the whole home WiFi I had hoped for. Returned it.

Ended up returning and upgrading to an ASUS Wifi 6. This device had a few drops in connection. Also, the device feels somewhat cheap.

Very nice unit with good reviews but it was not a strong enough signal to replace my Apple Time Capsule and Apple Express. Maybe an issue where it did not perform based on my house construction & layout (4000 sq ft) but had to take it back.

Okay speeds are fast I mean fast that is the only good news. Bad: Security is a joke if you block webpages some can still be accessed even without a vpn. The parental controls are even worse requires a third party dns account that you have very little control over. Basic mac filtering works unless you have a wifi extender the router sees that same mac you blocked but because it is on a extender it will not block it. The session log or system log is a max of one hour. BUt the biggest thing is there is a major security risk with this router look it up on there page. With all these issues on top of having to reset once a week I am returning it.
