    The Perfect Router

I bought this as a Christmas gift for my parents. They like to sit on our back patio during the summer and listen to music off my dad's Samsung tablet while using a bluetooth speaker. Unfortunately, our old router was an N300 that we rented monthly from Time Warner Cable. For those who don't know, it wasn't very powerful. That being said, they would have to leave the tablet in the house and put their music on, which also meant they had to put the speaker close to the house. With this router, that is not the case. Although the router is at a central point in the basement of the house, we can still get a decent connection at the end of our property which is about 250 feet away. We get a great signal in the house and on the patio. We even get a good signal by our fire pit which is about 100-115 feet from our house. This router is perfect for us. Not just for the tablet, but for watching Netflix or playing Xbox online, or even downloading music from iTunes, it does not matter what you're doing. The internet connection is perfect. Netflix literally loads instantly. The setup process was easy as well. 8 very detailed, very simple steps. It also gives you the option to use the Netgear Genie app for those less experienced when it comes to household networking. 5/5 stars all day long. See the photo I posted for a better idea of our layout.

    Wished it was better

I replaced my Netgear R7000 (AC1900) with this router. The idea of two separate bands at 5G was a good idea, but one of the bands always seems to drop to less than 1 MG/S download speed continuously no matter how I change band settings. I never found this problem on my old AC1900 router, and I am actually using it as the Wireless Access Point (only after discovery the issue) for other members in the household because its wireless signal is very reliable. Prior to adding the access point, I was using the same channel settings as on the other router. I can replace this one with my 1900, and all problems go away. What's happening to Netgear?

I like product however due to WOW compatibility issues I can't use, Was a waste of money and I'm still paying 10 dallors a month for the WOW 5g wireless device. The monthly fee is what I was trying to avoid.

This product does not work well with ATT Uverse internet. Probably would work great if the service provider did not have their own WiFi extender built into the router.

Not as great when in a room on the other side of the house. I expected much more from a product with such a big price tag. I have the highest speed internet service, and when trying to watch TV on Demand, it constantly buffers or will not record because of internet connection. When using my brand new Mac laptop, I have to go into the same room as the router for it to connect.

I returned a defective Netgear Nighthawk 1900 and let the Geek guy sell me this router. While it works good, its no better than the 1900 and has less range. I would not recommend this router if you looking to "upgrade".

I gave this 3 stars because it wasn't compatible with my internet provider. For some stupid reason att won't work with this router. So if you have att don't bother trying to use third party equipment cuz they won't work.

Go read the reviews on app/software before buying

I beg you to take this review seriously before you make the same mistake we made. Before thinking about this router, please go to your app store (Android or iPhone) and read reviews on the Nighthawk App (which is required to run the router). Just spend a couple of minutes reading and you'll be convinced to pass on this router. With an app that doesn't work, the router becomes essentially useless. It'll work for about a few weeks, then you're stuck. Can't return it now. I'm guaranteeing that most of these reviews were written before they had to deal with the app issues. I'm reviewing 4 months after purchase to make sure it wasn't a fluke. Router was good when we could actually use it, but eventually you'll be locked out of it. How Netgear can be good at making hardware and so bad on the software side is mind boggling. Seriously, go to the app store and read the reviews. Neither the app nor their website will work properly, which makes it an expensive paperweight.

We sometimes have 2 PlayStation 4's playing and both the kids streaming Netflix all at once. My old $50 router did a better job with a heavy load on it than this one. I would not recommend it and I will be returning it.

Owned a netgear WiFi router previously with not much success. We thought to give this model a try as it was a big upgrade from the last one. Didn’t see any significant improvements in our network.

Great router ... that is if you are not playing iRacing. It continually disconnects after about five minutes of racing. This is unacceptable ... doubly so since the problem has been a documented condition for quite some time now. Who heard of an expensive router like this not working with a game for Heaven's sake. I bought an ASUS AC2900 Dual Band Router (RT-AC86U) for half the price of this one ... and it works great.
