No Help from Customer Support
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I would have loved to give this item 5 stars. However, a year after purchase we started having major connectivity issues through this router. As Netgear only provides support for 90 days, it would cost me another $120 to talk with their customer support. This is just to talk with them, not to fix the problem. This is the second netgear router that I have run into this problem with. While talking to a supervisor at Netgear about this issue, I was put on hold mid-sentence. This confirmed my suspension that Netgear has no concern for their customers, and just wants customers to go out and buy a new router if they experience any trouble after 90 days.

Fast and Lots of Options!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I purchased this to upgrade from my net gear n300 and wow! It was an upgrade. For one, I no longer need my WiFi range extender... I love the app that I can use with it. I can view all devices on my network. This is helpful because I manage two Chromecasts, all of my lightbulbs (Hue), 4 computers, a webserver and a few other things, and all from this one router now! Get it if you can spare the extra bills! You won't regret it.

Not Worth the Price
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Router was unable to keep my other netgear router connected as an access point, Apparently this has been an issue with this router since day 1, I looked at the firmware update change log and they are filled with update after update of access point or extender fixes. I worked for hours with netgear changing every setting. I RMA'd it and had a local network tech look at it. Still wont work correctly. I only wish I was still in the return period. For advanced networking another brand is the way to go. It is now operating as a $300 access point.

This is a great router except for on feature.
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I would give the router 5 stars if only the people at Netgear would provide support for the attached USB. The USB is flaky at best and although the rest of the world can support large hard drives Netgear cannot. Every other feature of the router is great. I have owned this router for over 6 months. The USB is a common problem with all of the Netgear routers.

Buy an Extended Warranty!!!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I bought this router in December of 2016 and a compatible modem for our internet provider so we could "cut the cord" from cable TV. Being that we were new to streaming I got a hold of a Geek Squad tech and explained to him what we were trying to accomplish. On his recommendation we purchased this router and an extended warranty. As he put it, "THE MERCHANDISE IN THIS AISLE BY FAR, ARE THE MOST RETURNED ITEMS IN THE STORE". If there's a problem, you just return it to Best Buy and exchange it for a new one. Otherwise it's not a very friendly experience trying to return it to NetGear (as confirmed by other reviews). It doesn't quite have the range that our old Uverse router/modem had, but has worked well for our 1300 sg ft ranch, until lately. Over the last few months we have been dropping our internet connection at random. It started out a couple of times a week and now it's every few hours. I thought it was the modem, but after contacting xfinity and running their tests on the modem, it looks like it's the router. I'm exchanging the router today. Hopefully the problem will be solved...

Excellent signal throughout home
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. My husband and I purchased this product because we wanted to get ahead of the game as far as purchasing a modem and not having to replace it every year or so because of any number of issues. This one has been absolutely a dream come true. Excellent signal and never times out. It even reaches all the way through our two story 4 bedroom home without an extender. Absolutely LOVE.

AMAZING
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. In my house there are four IPads, three smarts phones, three Xbox ones, one PS 4, plus other items and before we always had issues with connection and since we purchased this router we haven't had any. My wife and I have placed the girls on their own little world, so it doesn't interfere with mom and dad's electronics. I cannot recommend this router enough.

Only good with 5GHz bands
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This router is great if all of your devices can use the 5 GHz band. The 2.4GHz band is garbage. It will often disconnect, a number of your devices will not be able to see the network on this band, and others will have authentication problems with it. If you have all new equipment that can utilize the latest standards, then this is nice. I wouldn't say it's worth the price, though.

Wow what a hot mess
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. My background - I'm the CTO of an IT company. So this isn't anything new. It's not something complex, and it's not something I don't understand. Just to get those normal assumptions out of the way when someone complains about a product. I have a Google Onhub that works, but I wanted better granular control over things than it gives. I needed to maintain the same speed since I do a lot of file transfers between my laptop, my media center PC, and my 56 TB NAS in the basement. Initially I simply wanted to test this, so I plugged it in, set it up for all the "default" settings it starts with. I knew ultimately I'd redo the wireless if I decided to keep it, since I didn't want to have to reprogram all my smart devices such as lightbulbs, power switches, outlets, security cameras, appliances, etc.. So I would use the same SSID and password when I deployed it for real. Initial testing was just a disaster. The smart connect feature combines all the SSID's for all three antennas into a single logical unit. My Google Onhub does the same. One SSID, one password, and depending on the device, it either connects at the 2.4 GHz or at the 5 GHz. So this smart connect here, when enabled, blended all three into the single logical unit as expected. Yet the new Dell XPS 13 laptop that connects fine at 866 Mb to the Onhub was NEVER able to connect at anything more than the 2.4 GHz connection, and a speed of 144 Mb. So file copies that may take, say, four or five minutes, were going forEVER. So kill that, let it show all three separate networks, and if I manually connected then to one of the 5GHz ones, it worked, and I'd connect at the same expected 866 Mb that I do with the Google router. But even then, file copies were WAY slower to my NAS on this than on my current one. Then came the attempt to tie it into Alexa with the skill. During setup of the router, it has you create a "mynetgear.com" account. I did that, and could log in just fine, but even copying and pasting the username/password, the skill kept saying "Incorrect user or password." I disconnected my Google Onhub, then tried setting this one up identically, just to see if there may have been interference. And I was never able to get connected to it again, neither via the app on the phone, nor via computer. At that point I realized it was time to box it up and return it. I'll stick with the Onhub for now, or maybe try an Asus since a few sites mention they had decent parental controls and such. But I think this is my last attempt to use a Netgear unit. Packing it up and returning it to the store.
