    Netgear Router does the job

After looking at the available products and weighing the bang for the buck, the Netgear router is probably the very best buy for your dollar. Purchasing the extended warranty is easy as well and, if for some reason - ANY reason - you have a problem, they give you a brand new router! You could spend more but why would you want to? Best Buy for sure!

    Wi-Fi Disconnect Consistently

Having owned this item for over three years with countless hours, dedicated towards troubleshooting ways in which to maintain, consistent Wi-Fi connectivity, I can now conclude that this is an ineffective router! I’ve read many reviews and have joined community groups that have had the same experience where the Wi-Fi would disconnect while still maintaining connectivity to devices directly, plugged into via ethernet cord.

Don't buy this piece of junk.

Bought this R8000 to replace an old Netgear N300 which wasn't able to reach the far side of our midsize home. Put the new router in the same place as the old one and found the range was even less. Bought a Netgear dual-band range extender and everything seemed to work ok for a short while. Then the router starter to intermittently drop connection to the internet. Sometimes it would drop connection on the 5G band and sometimes on the 2.4G band. Rebooting the router a few times seems to work to restore the connection, but what a hassle. Tried moving the router, changing channels and other suggestions from Netgear but the problem won't go away. Very disappointed after paying so much for this router. Won't but a Netgear product again.

    Not 360 degree

The product would be great if my house were not L shaped. The antennas do not rotate, only angle up or down, so for a ten story house this would be great but for a one story L shaped house it is virtually worthless. If I had purchased another product the antennas would rotate, since I purchased the highest end available there is no rotation. I should have went with a lower end model. Beware if your home is not rectangular.

    The best router period.

Ive used dozens of other routers and this is by far the top of the line. Everything from its wifi output/range to it's processor speed output, to its interface. Its amazing. Give it a try and you will be sold on it. Yes its pricey but it pays for itself in not having any issues.

    HORRIBLE-- buy the ASUS AC3100

I'm an engineer in Silicon Valley. Routers aren't rocket science. I went through three of these before catching a clue. This router is horrible. Signal quality was ok at first, and then degraded and channels dropped out entirely. 2nd one was DOA. 3rd one had so many problems-- and it wouldn't even hard reset to factory settings. The ASUS AC3100 is AMAZING. Best signal quality-- super fast-- super simple to install-- SIMPLY UNREAL! Save yourself a lot of frustration-- just by the ASUS AC3100.

Having an issue with my router

I purchased this router 2 days ago. It was very easy to set up and is working well. However, I do have one issue that I haven't been able to resolve. I cannot connect my Direct TV service to the internet. The Direct TV box is in my basement. I have a NetGear EX6200 extender that will connect to the router but the signal is not strong enough to make the Direct TV connection. I called NetGear support this morning and waited on hold for 45 minutes. After waiting this long period of time I was in the process of being transferred to a representative but was disconnected. Very frustrated.

    Malfunction < 2 years old

This router was fast and with good range for sure, but about 18 months in suddenly quit receiving internet signal from modem. 2+ hours w tech support who only wanted to sell me a service agreement- even having them remote in they couldn’t fix it and finally suggested I just buy a new router. A quick online search shows many more having the same problem- for a high end router shouldn’t suddenly quit working like it did!

All in all the router is great. I had an issue with 5g2 channel. I was getting super slow speeds on a non congested network. I disliked that channel completely and now have no issues.

    DO NOT BUY!!!!

DO NOT BUY!!!! After using it for 8 months, the router could not connect to the internet! For some reason, I wake up every morning and I find my internet connection is down. after a hard reset, it works for couple of days then it stops. I seems the router is unable to get an IP address from my ISP. I tried different router and it work find, then I reconnect the Nighthawk and no public IP address. This is my first NetGear product and I'm really disappointed. $300 down the toilet; going back to Linksys.

FOR THE LOVE OF GOD STAY AWAY

This router was AWFUL. If i could rate it 0 stars i would in a second 300 dollars for my speed to drop from 170 mbps to 2 or less while playing a game. I spent 8 hours trying to figure out a fix for this. I scoured the internet and even spoke to people from netgear and nobody could solve this issue. The router seems to have a reputation for this issue too. STAY AWAY FROM THIS THING. save yourself 50 bucks and go buy the high end linksys wrt1900ac or the asus equivalent for the same price as the linksys. Not only will you save money but youll save yourself some sanity and a headache.

Poor performance - No product support

    Posted .

So im on my 3rd Netgear router. They work fine for a few months and then the problems start. Best Buy tells you you have to go to netgear for support and they will only help if you buy a support package. After buying the support package they keep you on calls for hours and do nothing to fix the problem. I upgraded to the Nighthawk 3600 and same result. Internet speed from modem is 600Mbs. Output to devices is 130mbs on 5G and less than 10mbs (sometimes less than 1) on 2.4. This is a well known problem and they do not do anything to resolve it, they only try and up sell you to a more expensive product which probably sucks as bad as the last. I think this is a business model rather than a tech issue. cant believe they are still in business. Avoid the headache and frustration and find another manufacturer.

    Disappointed

I was told by the salesman that this would be easy to set up, and it wasn't extremely difficult. However, it would not work, so I tried all different types of setups and it still wouldn't connect. I finally called my provider, TWC, and the patient tech rep worked with me for 1.5 hours on the phone, trying all sorts of fixes at their network level. It just would not connect with my TW modem or my computers. I'll be taking it back tomorrow.

Worked for 15 months then 2 of 3 channels died

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

Unit overall and all 3 bands worked great for about a year. Over the last few months, the two 5Ghz channels (5G-1 and 5G-2) became less stable and often lost connectivity. Then finally today after about 15 months of use, both 5G-1 and 5G-2 channels are dead (not transmitting). So now I have one 2.4 GHz channel. That's it. Considering the price point this outcome is very, very disappointing. I won't ever buy a product from Netgear again. (Plus, the Netgear phone app is terrible and is primarily designed to sell you after-market add on software. Grifters.)

    Was disappointed

I have the Nighthawk C7000 so I figured I would try this as I am seemingly adding more and more wifi devices to my network and wanted to run my own cloud storage, I wanted to kind of "future-proof" my equipment. Initially excited about the tri-band but ultimately disappointed. The signal reach in my house was less than the C7000. I know the C7000 has longer antennas but you would thing with 6 antennas on the C8000 vs the 3 on the other would be more than enough. It wasn't. Also, the smart connect didn't do a good job in moving devices around to the appropriate bands. The C7000 does a much better job moving my device to 2.4GHZ when it's too far away and then back to 5GHZ when I can get a stronger signal. The C8000 kept me on 2.4GHZ, so it caused weak signals in certain areas on my home. As of now the only things I can say about this device that's better than the C7000 is both USB ports are on the back so makes it more convenient and a cleaner look to use rather than having wires running from both the front and back of your router. Other than that, sorely overpriced for performance degradation.
