Extremely fast with no drop in speed in a 2200 sq

This router is easy to setup, amazingly fast with a minimal drop in speed from the farthest corners of my house. Ie; next to the router I get 207 avg mbps, i pay for 200. It dropped to 180 mbps at the lowest reading from the farthest point in my home i could get. Love that it will dedicate a wireless channel to specific devices such ads our sons Ps4 consoles so they have no traffic to add lag to gaming. A simultaneous combined d/l at 4gbps at up to 10 devices ensures no matter how many devices are connected nobody will experience buffering or lag issues. Granted this all depends on the speed you pay for and your provider. Some providers offer up to 20 gbps now so dont blame this router if ur not fast enough. Awesome buy as of this point

After owning a Netgear Nighthawk since 2014 I was due for an upgrade. My internet was dropping at least a couple times a week and speeds were not that great for having 1 gb internet from AT&T. I was worried about which product to buy since there were so many options. This did not disappoint! Triple speeds (916 mb down/872 mb up) and very easy setup. I kept the same name/pw from my other router. Didn't even need to use my wifi extender because my whole house (2800 sqft had excellent signal). I have 15-20 devices on with no issues. App makes managing the router simple. Highly recommend this product!

Easy Setup, Fast, Reliable... Great Price

I recently received one of these routers, it is certainly a step up from my previous Nighthawk X4 Dual-Band. First of all, the extra band allows me to separate my wireless traffic, a sort of physical QoS. The router can handle the streaming of my video games on one band, while streaming video on another without issues. Without benchmarking, I presume the processor and memory specs on this Nighthawk provide amble overhead for my needs. The range is good, and all bands are accessible within my 2000 sqft home, as well as the rooftop deck; heck it extends all the way across the park beside my home (though your millage may vary in terms of Line of sight and construction materials....). This router has many built in features, notably built-in support for OpenVPN and Cloud Access to storage media connected to the device via usb. I also found the traffic metering beneficial as my ISP has instated a 1TB Maximum on all its customers, before overage charges. All in all, the Nighthawk X6S is a solid home / small office router, it's easy to setup, just unfold the antennas, plug in your internet line and power on. I have never had a piece of Netgear equipment fail on me yet, therein I have no doubt in their ability to produce high quality long lasting goods, I'm sure I will not be disappointed by this router in the long-term.

Great router, but have to reboot often

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

My experience with this router has been pretty much the same as the majority of the other posters. The router works great, but every 2-3 days it disconnects from all of my devices, and I have to reboot it, sometimes 3 or 4 times before it will eventually connect again. I have the X8 at my office, and wish Netgear had not discontinued that product. The X8 works flawlessly, and the rep who I spoke with at my local Best Buy store told me that people have raved about the X8, and the X6 not so much. I would have gladly paid another $100 to avoid the reboot every 2-3 days.

I replaced a Nighthawk AC1900 with this, and have been extremely impressed at the increased speed, ease of use (get the app too!), and coverage. Areas in my house that had weak signal are now perfect, and I appreciate the ability for directional control of signal strength based on connected devices.

Gawd what an improvement. When I changed to hi-speed internet, I started renting a router from TWC. It was so bad I thought it was a joke. I did some research, and talked to some people and came to the conclusion this was the router for me. Now we run the tv app, roku, 2 phones and 2 tablets simultaneously with no issues. I have been playing COD WW2 and the speed is top notch. The install was a breeze and the payback on changing to internet tv from cable, which this allows, will be less than 5 months. I heartily recommend this product.

    Disappointment

This router is a big disappointment. A $250 plus tax disappointment. And support website is not great either. Hate this gull durn thing. Just missed the 90 day return benefit on my CITI MC card. I would have sent it back. Phone often won't connect to wireless automatically. Sometimes phone won't connect when standing right next to the router. Or, if it does connect, it takes a few minutes. If my phone connects wirelessly, the connected device table doesn't show my phone in the list. Both my phone and my wife's phone are connected via wireless. My phone eventually showed up on the list about 10 minutes later. Wife's never did. Range is inconsistent. Router is around the center of the first floor and near the stairwell of a split level house (that means it's not a full story flight of stairs). Only getting 2.4GHz up the second floor and the signal drops off pretty fast. Had to install a range extender but didn't get NetGear. I own an Epson ET-3750 printer that is connected via wireless to this router. It is capable of scanning documents and sending them to other computers connected to the router (ethernet). However, it has lost connection to all of the desktop computers a few times until I rebooted the crappy router. Once I rebooted, the printer could immediately see the desktop computers again. I had tried restarting the printer and desktop computers several times to no avail. Support page is horrible. Constantly having to re-log in. Have to do that on the router admin page too, come to think of it. I have LastPass and if a password prompt comes up, LastPass can't fill it in. Have to kill the Chrome browser tab and re-log in from LastPass. I know, I know, NetGear doesn't support LastPass - but c'mon. LastPass is a standard. You gotta at least try to make it work. A lot of other websites do. The support function on the NetGear website is cumbersome. You get an email confirmation but you can't respond via email. You have to go back in and update the support ticket via the support website. And I didn't get an answer from the tech when I did that anyway. And then, if the tech doesn't answer in seven days, they close the ticket. Support personnel are offshore based on the stilted language in the tech's response. Lots of noise sentences such as "I will surely help you with this". That's all great that he will surely help me but really..... that should go without saying. Just get to the point. Kind of a nit, I admit. Gave me some suggestions. Implemented them. Didn't help with the above issues. Opened a support ticket mainly to ask a question before upgrading firmware. Never got an answer to that question but did get a recommendation to change the MTU size slightly. Search for R8000P on support site and get tons of irrelevant hits for R7000's, etc. Ton's of firmware links - I guess one for each version. Waste of time. Haven't figured out how to navigate the support site yet. Might have to resort to the old standby of using google to search for answers on the NetGear support site. My setup 3) Google Pixel 2 XL's that are about seven months old Comcast modem Three ethernet windows 7 desktop computers. NetGear Nighthawk R8000P on Firmware V1.4.1.24 Don't buy this router. I guess I missed the reviews on NewEgg. Only five and none are very positive.
