Great range and speed
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Great range and speed but lacks documentation. App makes it easy for novices but you need to be IT pro to understand all the control panel settings in browser. Might work even better if I knew what settings did. Works with Fios Gigabit but you need to buy MOCA adapter to have on demand $60 to $90.

Great High Performance Router
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. With as many devices depending on an internet or wireless connection these days, it may be time to upgrade your old router. With a high performance router such as this one, you could potentially increase the reliability of your network and have faster transfer speeds between your devices and router. I've noticed improvements across this board in my house once I set it up. While I personally can't wait until a DD-WRT build is released for it, Netgear's firmware is very easy to setup and navigate. They make it very intuitive for those who aren't as advanced with networks. There is even an app for your phone that you can use to manage your network. The hardware supports legacy and the newer AC bands so all of your old and new devices should connect no problem (no issues here). The built-in MU-MIMO technology really helps network reliability and streaming speeds when a lot of devices are accessing the router. This product has been satisfactory and pricing is fair for the cutting edge technology built-in.

A great router on paper, BUT...
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I want to start off by saying STAY AWAY from this router. On paper, this router seems amazing. Tri-Band, supports fast speeds with many devices on the network, MU-MIMO support, Beam Forming, gamer aesthetics, etc. However, There is a MAJOR issue. After setting this router up, everything seemed to be going fine. I did some speed tests and found that I was getting roughly 16% faster speeds than I was paying for (paying for 300Mbps download and getting about 340-350Mbps)! As you can imagine I was extremely happy with this! After getting everything connected, I went to work and then came home several hours later. I turned on my PS4 and started up Netflix and noticed that my PS4 was taking a long time to load the app. Then it said that it could not connect to the network. I went to the network settings to confirm that it was connected to the right network and it was, but there was no internet access. My next step was to check to see if the router was receiving internet from my modem and to my surprise, all of the lights on the router showed that it was fully connected and receiving the signal. I then tried to access the internet from my phone. My phone said it was connected just like my PS4 had, and the same issue. I opened up Chrome and it showed that there was no internet connection. I then tried the same thing on my girlfriends phone and it had the same issue. At this point i was frustrated and reset the router by powering it off and restarting it. Everything was reconnected and working fine... For a while. The next day came and went with no issues. The following day however, the same thing happened. All of my devices showed that they were connected to the router, though none would actually connect to the internet even though the router showed nothing wrong with the lights on top. The next day I returned the router and exchanged it for the same model thinking it was simply a defective model, plus I really wanted to give this router a chance since it was giving me faster speeds than I had hoped for. After setup of the second router, everything seemed fine again. a few days went by with no issues. I was feeling hopeful that I had simply purchased a defective unit the first time around and that this time would be different.... I was wrong. A few days after setting up the second Nighthawk AC4000, I had the same issue as the first. This time, instead of having only wireless connections, I had my desktop PC hardwired through Ethernet, thinking that it was only an issue with the wireless connection. NOPE, even wired devices connected directly to the router had the same issue. I refuse to believe that you should have to reset your router every other day to keep the network functional. That is absolutely ridiculous! Needless to say I am returning this second router as well and is the last time I buy a NETGEAR Router or Modem. I hope this review helped someone avoid making a costly mistake.

Firmware Issues - Pricy Customer Support
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I’ve had this router for 4 years and can honestly say I would not recommend this product or any other product of NETGEAR. Initially, the router was great. No issues for a couple years. It was a different story when we started working from home because of the pandemic that we noticed issues. The issues ranged from poor connectivity, bands dropping at random, and DNS issues. I reset this router to factory settings multiple times which did not fix any of the issues. After searching some message boards, I realized that by rolling back the firmware, it solved some of the DNS issues, but not without increasing some of the security risks. But it did not solve some of the connectivity issues that we experienced. Even calling NETGEAR support didn’t help. Regardless of whether it is their fault for bad firmware, you are going to have to pay $99.99 for a service contract to even get them to help. Even after hours of trying to talk to them about how all of my time spent pointed to their firmware being the issue, they still wanted me to pay the service fee for them to investigate further. The product did work, but not without issues that frustrated us and drove us mad more often than not. I went ahead and purchased another router that is not NETGEAR because I have run out of patience with this thing. I’ve been a long time purchaser of NETGEAR products, but will not buy another one again after this. And while this is a much older product, and probably discontinued, I felt like I had to write this review because of the bad experience that we had.

Major Disappointment
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Initially the router started off fine. For the first 2-3 weeks we had no issues. The set-up was simple enough. Our devices connected just fine. All of our firmware was up to date as well. About 3 weeks in to owning this router, we began to lose signal every now and then. All our devices would show they were connected to WiFi, but none of them would have internet connection. It slowly progressed to my wife and I having to reset the router on a daily basis. Once it was reset it would last for another day or so. Netgear's customer support was not helpful either. One would think that a router of this price would be running near perfection out of the box. After deeming that it was also not our ISP or modem, I returned the unit. We purchased the Linksys Velop system and have had a flawless connection. For those on the fence about this product, avoid it. There are much better alternatives out there.

Move on...
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This router replaced my Apple Airport Extreme. My god I miss that Airport Extreme! It never gave me one single problem in five years!! They just stopped supporting firmware updates, so I had to change. This was the router I selected. I was also a Bitdefender (which is what Netgear Armor is) customer and was happy with them. I found that this router did not play nicely with my system at all! While my "smart" devices all connected and had virtually no problems, my Mac computer had some problems. And our PC laptop hated this router! The router would routinely block ALL internet pages from loading, requiring one to wait 5 second and hit the refresh button on the browser to have it finally load the page. Or, it would completely block the page from loading (I'm referring to sites like msn.com, bananarepublic.com, etc). No Bridge mode option is available (really?!?!) The absolute worse part though is the complete lack of support! You get phone support for the first three months. But these are calls that are routed to the usual overseas suspects who are just reading from FAQ pages and don't have actual experience. And once your three months of phone support is up, you're relegated to "the community". I decided to finally leave Netgear behind when it was time to renew my annual $99 fee for Armor. It simply would not go through no matter how many times I tried. And foolish error messages would be received like, "You appear to not be connected to the internet" (the app requires internet connection to get that far in to it!) or "The date must be a future date" (when it was). Many, many phone calls and emails to Netgear and after weeks of getting no where, I realized that Netgear is simply too disorganized and not ready to support their products! I cannot recommend this (or any Netgear) product for these reasons. Sorry Netgear. Time to get it together!

Good router
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Very satisfied with this netgear router. The router is in the upstairs hallway and my computer is downstairs and I get a very solid and stable internet connection. You might have to configure the netgear router settings on the website in order to get fast speeds

The worst router I have ever owned
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. When it's working it works great. However I have easily spent $500 worth of my time messing with this thing in 2 years. The BAD! -Firmware!!!!! UGG! Everytime they release new firmware it solves one problem and causes 6 more. -Nighthawk phone app is a JOKE! you cant do any basic config of channels on the app, if it ever even connects -Hidden costs! Oh you wanted to use that feature, please pay 9.99/mo for that basic feature. -No range! I get weak signal 8 feet from router with nothin in the way. The really bad! -sometimes the firmware makes your device unusable for weeks or months. -new firmware brings more opportunity for monthly billables. Oh you wanted to use the security features now?? please pay 19.99/mo -constantly disconnects from internet -reboot it daily The really really bad. -the first one I bought was literally a suet block Dont buy this!

Worst Router I have EVER owned!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.First of all...The only routers I have ever owned have been NetGear. So I believed this product would be great. This replaced a NetGear Dual Band R6300. Wow... where do I start! Range...worse than the R6300...Speed no better and have upgraded Spectrum speeds (not really complaining about this part as my uploads are usually in the 230s....and here is where it all goes wrong...CONNECTIVITY (the MOST important part) Updated to the newest firmware on setup..had loss of connection Day 1 and it has never ended!!! I did a lot of research into this issue before and after purchase but believed I would not be one of the purchasers who would have a problem...I was SO WRONG! I lose connection everyday and it is NOT my modem as I check immediately or I am online with it right next to me. Have started to unplug (IT) (as we will now identify it) and that seemed to help as others suggested online, that now doesnt work either! It has problems connecting to either 5G not as much the 2.4G (when it is working) I now do a reset from the back and that helps too but I have to do it everyday...appalling that this is the product I choose. Also the Triangular light on the router, under the word internet, no longer lights up (I have used this about 3 weeks) I waited 2 weeks to set (IT) up and waited to long to return to BestBuy. (my Fault as I argued over this in my head but STILL I believed in NetGear) There are forums on this problem so NetGear is aware. I am hoping it is a firmware problem that can be resolved ...until then I will have to put up with the constant loss of connectivity (easily 10 or more times a day if I am on during the day). I would NOT RECOMMEND this product (IT) to anyone [well maybe to someone I don't like :) ] I actually worry the internet will go out while posting this...that is how bad this is and it has cause loss of work (minor ) on other things I have done. Also I think this might be a TriBand problem as if you look at other mfgs...there are quite a few complaints about this issue. Sorry NetGear I no longer trust your products...they look cool though!!!

Constant connection loss
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Overall I would not recommend this router to anyone. Even though it does have good performance when it is connected. Router doesn’t stay connected and you have to constantly reboot device to get internet. Not a stable device and netgear doesn’t have a fix for this issue. Known issue thru several comments I have researched.

Not good. Chose another product
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I tried everything with this router. When I set it up at first it ran great. Then the “reboot” phase started. Like many of the other reviews I was shocked to have to reboot the router almost daily. Sometimes twice a day. I would get the calls from my kids saying the internet is down. Doing a hard reboot is not a workaround. I called Netgear support and they said I was out of my initial warranty. I thought originally it was perhaps me as a user error that I set it up incorrectly. So I reinstalled my WiFi router that came from my Cable company and I have no issues. My range isn’t as good but at least I don’t have to reboot. Netgear sent me a replacement but was quick to remind me that I would not be eligible for service calls. I would have to pay to join their service program. The router firmware is bad and none of the upgrades or resets I did, did anything to stop my issues. Thankfully I was able to return it a retail location and am going to try a mesh network option. Netgear, I wanted to like you. I tried but your product is awful!!!!!

Firmware Issue - Poor Support from Netgear
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. When the router works, it is super fast. I did not check reviews before I bought it. I discovered after the first lock up within 2 days of use and that there is a current problem with the router with the latest firmware update. Works fine for a couple of days, but then locks up. Netgear is not providing a lot of feedback to customers and the beta versions released are not fixing the problems. I DO NOT RECOMMEND PURCHASING this item. After 3 weeks of use, I will see if I can bring it back and exchange it.

Do not buy
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Absolute garbage - my unit has the bad firmware that they ghosted all the customers on. At first, it would randomly lose it's wfi config, that would sometimes magically reappear, then it changed to occasionally happening at power loss - so I connected to a UPS. Today it started kicking devices one by one and then renamed the SSIDs to NETGEAR and went wide open with Security set to "None". I unplugged it one last time and bought something else. Never again.

Good but bad
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. So after owning this router for 1 year and a half. It’s great router for large downloading and gaming but the only reason it got 3 stars because I think it’s Netgear’s fault why they didn’t built in power management feature into it to keep this router from overheating. My recommendation for 1st time buyers it a good buy if you isolate it by it’s own meaning in 70-75 degrees room and alway from other electronics that produce excessive heat like most TVs , gaming console , high end modems and some &most PCs .
