Great!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This router is working phenomenally! Download speeds have vastly increased and with 5-10 devices in my household relying on Wi-Fi it doesn't interfere in anyway.

Stay Away - Needs to be Reset Every Day
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Like many other reviewers here, this router is really fast when it's working, but my devices would show they were connected to the wireless signal but couldn't get anywhere online (or worse, I'd lag out in the middle of a League of Legends match). Unplugging and replugging (resetting the router) helped every time - but I don't expect to pay $250 for needing to do this. I build my own computers, setup my Xfinity router into bridge mode and I modify my own settings. I know how to handle/fix a wireless network. This product simply refuses to work on a consistent basis and should be stayed away from at all costs.

A Pricey Paperweight: Will Not Update
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have never spent this much on a router; however, I was told that the Netgear Nighthawk was one of the best for a house of my size and the number of the devices I had. It worked wonderfully for about 8 months, but then the “auto updates” stopped working. I am now permanently stuck on Firmware Version 1.4.1.50_1.3.10 and unable to update it to the latest Firmware Version 1.4.1.68. One only needs to go to the NETGEAR Community on their website and do a search for R8000P firmware, and you will see all of the posts that there is no fix for this. If you’re lucky, you might be able to return your current router for a refurb that has been updated, but you’ll get no warranty. Next time, I am getting an extended Best Buy warranty and a modem other than NETGEAR.

Don't Do It! R8000P
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I should have returned this router in the first month I bought it. I had to continually reboot the router... the power down cycle and restart. Once I did that, it worked fine for a day or two, sometimes a week... then it would not work... reboot... it works...2 days later, not working.... reboot... it works....a week later, not working... reboot.... on and on it went. I was hoping that one of the reboots would fix the issue. BUT the router just quit one day, it does absolutely nothing. No lights, No power. I started thinking maybe it was a power cord all along so I bought a new power adapter but that didn't help. I am now at a loss, I call up my friend who recommended this stupid router and his is working perfectly. I take my router over to his house, plug it in to his setup, including his power cord... nothing, still doesn't work. It gets ZERO power. I contacted the Netgear support team, I opened a case for them to replace it, fix it, or just take it back... nothing! No replies! I have sent them all the information, model # and serial#... I even sent them a picture of the model# and serial#.... 4x.. four times! I have 4 responses to the open case, Netgear has 0 responses! "Pending Agent Action" for 11 days now.

Gone Downhill - Do Not Buy
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Kept dropping signal and resetting itself. Netgear refuses to replace it under warranty. They are willing to "try" to make it work for an additional $90. I was sure the problem had to be something else, my last Nighthawk was fantastic. So, first I replaced my computer. Then I replaced the modem. Still kept having the same problems. I had an IT person come check it all out. He said the problem was the router, so, finally, I tried a different router. The problems went away. Nighthawks used to be great. Based on the one I bought, they are now trash and Netgear support is worthless.

Wifi drops intermittently.
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Like other reviews here, since I purchased this on 7/10/18 I had to reset the router a few times due to the wifi not getting internet access. TV and phones would be connected and router would indicate there is internet access but there would be none. I already updated the firmware and did a factory reset but still have the same problem. I have 5 days left to return this and get something else. Might go with a Linksys.

Low Quality Features and Performance for Cost
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. So far this router has been pretty stable but for the cost with what you is just insane! The features are bare minimum and performance is just ok. for TWO HUNDRED AND EIGHTY dollars you dont get much, its insane. I will be returning this next week for something much better. The bandwidth monitor seems inaccurate and you cant see it by device, the app is a complete joke. Looks like it was built in 2001, for $280 its insane anyone would keep this thing.

Terrible quality
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I purchased this from Best Buy and my unit was defective out of the box. The firmware would not update and the 5G2 transmitter gave terrible speeds. Since Best Buy only allows 14 day returns on this item, I had to go through Netgear for a replacement. The second router had the same issues, not updating and next to zero speed on the 5G2 transmitter. This is supposed to have two 5G bands NOT one. DO NOT BUY THIS PIECE OF CRAP!!!!!

Not For Apple
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Netgear no longer supports Time Machine backup with August 2019 upgrade. Plus they stopped supporting Netgear Genie and in its place now provide a simplistic GUI. It fails to allow the user to set parental controls. You have to BUY another app from Disney. It is seriously Mickey Mouse. Mac users should look nat another brand. I wish I had known this before spending $300 on an R8000.

Does NOT stop ping spikes when gaming
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I just bought this router a few days ago. I do my usual bufferbloat testing to find those optimal settings under load to ensure the network integrity maintains intact. Busy network, quiet network, I want low latencies at all times. Unfortunately, after I found the optimal values for upload and download using the DSL reports testing method (lowering it 10% at a time then testing it again) I thought I was ready to go after correcting device priority and device type to make the consoles highest and all others low. I was wrong. My wife's ping in-game would shoot up to 200 if I buffered a YT video. We have 50/5 and 1080p vidoe about 7-8mb so we have PLENTY of leftover bandwidth so those spikes should not be happening with this much processing power. I also use a CM1000 modem (WHICH IS FANTASTIC! Had the best pings and lowest jitter when I tested it by itself. I own a SB8200 and SB6183) Anyways, I tried many factory resets, values, setting changes and still absurd lag spikes. I turned off QOS and the lag was significantly reduced to about +30 if I purposely kept making it buffer. But the game was unplayable with someone simply watching a video (not the initial video buffering) I'm very disappointed in the QOS. Don't buy this router. Buy the IQROUTERV3 instead.

Doesn't maintain connection
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. When it works it's fast. But several times a day it stops passing internet traffic. Setup and the genie app says it's still connected but none of the devices attached to it wired or wireless get through. It must be rebooted and sometimes completely unplugged before it will work again. Definitely frustrating. It's going back.

Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Thought if I spent some $, I'd get some improvement. Quit after 2 years. No power
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Worked great for 2 years. Now all of a sudden there is no power to it. All the lights just went out for no reason. It’s not the outlet or surge protector because everything else plugged in works fine. Just quit running. Reset button didn’t do anything either.

NETGEAR is untrustworthy

Terrible
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I had total tech support when I purchased this router so I had it installed by geek squad. This router has been a complete headache since it was installed. It simply drops wifi every. single. day. I have to reboot two-three times a day just for it to work. I have even tried to do a cold restart several times.....still the same issues. I thought it could possibly be my internet provider, but I plugged my old router (Netgear N600) back up and internet worked perfectly fine..I used the old router for several days just to make sure that it wasn't a fluke and it never dropped wifi. Very frustrating. Not what I would expect from a $220 router.

NOT WORTH THE MONEY!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I purchased this router for almost $300.00 in September 2019. It just crapped out last night - no warnings! Left me dead in the water on EVERYTHING including my alarm service and garage door opener! I'm going to just rent a router for $10.00/month from my service provider. It amounts to about the same money and since they will maintain the new router for me, I won't have to worry about being without a router/internet again.
