Excellent Router
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. My wifi strength had been dropping exponentially over the past several months which I incorrectly attributed to more of my neighbors working from home. instead, I found that my router was too old and I was not getting the 5Ghz that I thought I was. This router allowed me to establish three networks. 2 at 5 Ghz and 1 at 2.5 Ghz. this has worked out wonderfully. My wife uses the 5 Ghz for work with no issues. I highly recommend this for a household who has both high and medium internet usage requirements

Netgear is junk
||Posted . Owned for 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.First off, I am a software engineer with a Masters degree in Information Systems so I do have a clue as to how to make networks work. For the price, I would expect more capabilities, better stability, and better WIFI range. I spent 4 days trying to get this to work correctly and had the wife and kids complaining about the internet going out again and again. My setup consists of three routers. A router/gateway (Netgear router would fill this position), a router in bridge mode for a wireless access point and extra Ethernet ports on the other side of the house and a third router in bridge mode so I can hook my work PC and gaming PC to Ethernet. All three routers are connected via Ethernet. I bought this because I liked the specs. However, like the other Netgear stuff I have used/owned in the past, it is junk. The Netgear products I have owned in the past were cheaply made and this is no different. The antennas felt like I could break them off easily and the case for it felt like cheap plastic. I returned it because it could not handle the traffic in my home. My internet kept dropping. I was trying to stream TV and my Roku TV would say it lost connection from time to time. This Roku TV was connected via Ethernet. On top of that, it had no local DNS server capabilities. I could no longer add a new raspberry PI or Linux system and SSH in to those boxes without knowing the IP (IPs can change). There are ways to do that without DNS but that is a pain and not really something I want to manage all the time. This is such a basic thing it should be included based on the price. Since I didn't have DNS I decided to create my own DHCP/DNS server. Lets just say this router did not like that at all. It caused the internet to drop more frequently and would allow some devices to access the internet but not others. Yes, I restarted everything to try to fix the issue. Nothing worked. I put my old cheap FIOS router back in and set it up the same way and it worked great with my own DHCP/DNS server. I exchanged this router for the ASUS RT-AC3100 router and put it in place of my FIOS router with my own servers and it worked flawlessly. My WIFI and internet connection has never been better. I also didn't have to use my Raspberry PI as a DHCP/DNS server any longer because it has Local DNS capabilities like many other routers I have owned. Also, I have not turned on my second access point on the other side of that house since I got this. WIFI has worked great all through the house. Additionally, the case and antennas are solid and I could probably toss it across the room and it wouldn't break. Further more, tech support was no help what so ever. they kept telling me it was my devices; my extra routers that were essentially switches and had no control of traffic going in and out of my gateway. I could barely understand tech support but seems pretty common. Bottom line, for 280 I would expect it to be built better and to have better capabilities. Other routers in the same range are far superior. The I saved 80 dollars by switching to the ASUS RT-AC3100 router and it is a superior router.
