I was having issues with my ISP's WiFi enabled router on my job's laptop at home. When I use VPN at home from another room that is not direct line of site to the router I would get VPN drops. I installed the Nighthawk X6S AC4000 Tri-Band Wi-Fi Router and had not problems since it was installed 3 weeks ago.

BUYER BEWARE. Do not buy this product. It started to fail due to a firmware issue at 99 days. Free technical support is good for 90 days, and it comes with a 1 year hardware warranty. Here's the kicker, if you are outside of the 90 day free tech support window, you need to shell out $ in the order of $50 (one time) or $140/year just to get them to evaluate it whether it's a software or hardware issue and whether it needs an RMA. I know what the problem is as plenty of people have mentioned it on the Netgear community website. I bought this Router because my brother-in-law purchased one and he said it really helped with his many laptops at home. He was so right. This Router certainly did that and it made such a difference in how smoothly our videos played with less buffering. I highly recommend this product, hands down!!

Router works well. Need to download app to install. Took 40 minutes. Steps are not as clear as they could be. Requires the usual difficult password Ben for guest access. I should be able to control that but cannot.

    Firewall and ACL functionality needed

Tis isn't a cheap router and for the price I'd expect better firewall and ACL functionality. Besides this major disappointment, it delivers. Parental controls are basic, leaves sometthing to be desired and cannot say I've gotten them to work consistently. The array of apps and controls are confusing. Inserts in the box, point you to netgear genie app, it's no longer supported so you're download the nighthawk app. Then Parental controls you are steered to "circle", I believe by Disney, however if you want you can opt to use openDNS if you're more technical, however it too is limited.
