    Followed all instructions and approaches and cannot update firmware. Netgear forums show this is common problem. Huge waste of time resetting to factory and trying downgrading, upgrading, etc. but still won't change firmware. Now that have been unable to update for so long might now be compromised by VPNFilter or similar. having to unplug this $300+ paperweight. Will try to get replacement but will not buy anymore Netgear products after buying dozens previously. Netgear support not helpful.

    This is quite possibly the single worst router I've ever owned. I've always used my own routers, vs what the ISP's provide. I understand the technology well, as I work with computers and networks at work. At home... I expect them to work. The firmware is stuck at 1.4.1.50. Upon reboots, the wifi configuration is lost, and I have to reset and reconfigure the router.. Sucks during work! Most recently, the 5 GHz networks reset themselves, with the default SSID, and no security. Crazy!
