R8500 seems great so far but the app only works basic functions. It took two hours to be told that on the phone with Netgear. The first hour was taken up by repeating my personal information by someone who was in another country. They could not understand me and I could not understand them. If I had it to do over, I'd buy a different brand.

This device is providing wifi to over 20 streaming items in my house and does the job perfectly. The only down side is no matter what WIFI device I have purchased, it only seems to last 1 year and then it just stops working. Getting the protection plan is definitely a high recommendation when spending the money on an item like this.

We have wifi availability throughout the house all the way down to dock at lakehouse.

Disclaimer: I received this product for free through Netgear's Friends and Family program. This is an unbiased review. I have been having problems with my older Linksys router, and I got the opportunity to try out the Netgear Nighthawk X8 - AC5300. The first thing I notices was the heft of the box and contents, this was not some fragile piece of plastic! I proceeded to open the box and follow the simple setup instructions. Setup was a breeze, probably the easiest wireless install I have done. Of course, the most important aspect of the router is its performance. The Nighthawk X8 did not disappoint. I was constantly getting around 175mbps on Speedtest, and encountered no lag moving large video files between networked computers. Additionally, the signal is very strong; I have a large house that would only get 1 bar when I was in my bedroom furthest from the router. With this product, I get full bars in that bedroom as well as outside in my yard! I highly recommend this product if you are looking for blazing fast wireless internet. Granted, the cost is a bit steep given the numerous cheap routers on the market, but you get what you pay for, and this router is worth every cent!

I recently purchased this router as an upgrade to the netgear r7000 router. The router was great for pretty much everything but gaming. I would have too many lag spikes and it was getting very frustrating. Now that was the most I ever spent on a router and left me very disappointed with wireless once again almost leading me to try a power line adapter. But then I heard about this router and even though it cost so much i decided to give it a shot. Setup was a breeze and gaming over wifi is so much better now. I play cs go and haven't had any lag spikes and I currently have 150 mb download speed with my provider but register 160 mbps with speedtest. I was getting around 60-70mbps so definitely worth the money especially if you want lag free gaming and don't have a way to connect directly into the router.
