Superior Coverage,Speed, and more...
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Saw this on September 30th & IMMEDIATELY grabbed it for $399 less a $30 savings! Rich, Supervisor & my local BB dude worked wonders so I could snatch this BEAST. Thanks Rich! So far the Nighthawk X8 lives up to every claim Netgear' has stated it would do but the only downside is due to the 1.4 Ghz processor. It's producing a LOT of heat even though I've allowed generous ventilation, I'm talking hot to the touch heat here. I don't post many reviews and when I do I don't include tested data since its purely subjective - but I must admit, so far I'm impressed with the bandwidth. I originally went to purchase the D-link AC3200 I ordered but saw this and jumped at the opportunity to nab this upon realizing it was the AC5300 available + the upcoming release of the MU-MIMO later this year making relatively future-proof for MY NEEDS. The active antennae & total house coverage is what makes this the BEAST to beat! Looks very cool with the LED illuminated active antennae light up in a dark room too. I ran every test & put it through the paces that I know of (I'm a developer do I know what specs & corresponding results matter most) and don't like posting the results of my personal testing but the Nighthawk X8 will impress many. The X8 is a substantial upgrade from the X6 and a great replacement from any router. Although there is a STEEP PRICE INCREASE from Nighthawk X6 AC3200 I personally feel the increase is justified in the long run. I'm glad I waited to pull the trigger upgrading cuz I would've been stuck with an already obsolete AC3200 or less. THIS IS A MUST BUY for anyone looking for a serious upgrade and I'd recommend this to anyone.

Much more than I expected
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This router was given to me to test and I have been very impressed. Setup was easy with very clear instructions. After plugging it in, I had it operating in minutes. I'm seeing increased speeds and extremely greater range. I have full strength while in the back yard while streaming music. Best of all, no complaints from the family that the router needs to be reset again!

WiFi Router
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Salesperson was not very familiar with the best router and asked a more experienced salesperson to help. Of course, he proceeded to sell me the most expensive model because the size of my house (he said it would work up to 10,000 sq. feet). Bottom line, it didn't help much and my house is half that size

Product failed within 6 months
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.First off I have a C+ and Network + Certificate. I purchase only the highest quality products. I purchased this router because it was touted as the best at the time. The product failed within 6 months. The wireless radio went out but the switch function of the router still worked. I trouble shot the router myself and was able to get the 2.4 GHZ Radio on but not the 5 GHZ. I called customer service and they had me reset the radios and they both came on. Within 30 minutes the radios turned back off. I called back customer service and they stated they were out of ideas and gave me no more options for repair or replacement. Later against my better judgement I purchased a Netgear usb adapter for his computer 5 months ago and now it is failing. Short version stay away from Netgear products.

Broke
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. We bought this router and returned it within a week because it broke. While it worked great for a couple days we were shocked it didn't work after such a short period of time owning it. Don't waste your time or money buying it.

Worked great until it didn’t
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This router was fairly easy to set up. It worked great until it just stopped working a little over two years after we bought it. Completely dead. For what we paid for it, I would have expected it to last much longer.

Not impressed
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Purchased this router to replace our old router & accommodate the increasing number of wireless devices in our house to help maintain the speed of our internet service. Plugged it in got it setup & it worked great....until the next morning when we had no wifi...the router stopped working & when restarted it still didn't work. Returned the router to Best Buy, with no problems at all, & got another of the same. It did the exact same thing as the first one, so I returned it & purchased a different brand & have had no issues at all. Thanks you Best Buy for the great customer service on a defective product.

Easy to use with awesome range
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Truth be told, I was a little apprehensive at first about replacing my current router and access point. I just purchased a 4K TV and have an Xbox One, gaming PC and a couple Rokus floating around. So far his thing is pretty awesome and haven’t had a issue yet. In fact, I was able to complete ditch my access point on the far side of the house. The wireless actually has nearly 2x the range as my last router (2k Sqft house) and my Rokus stopped having an attitude when I tried to use the app on my phone. I am also seeing a 20% increase in my download speed. The setup was easy. You can actually get everything up and going in a matter of minutes. Aside from the wireless range and throughput (which are probably the most important to me) the features were surprisingly cool. It has a built in DLNA server which is picked up by my TV, Xbox and Roku’s. I have all my pictures, music and videos available across the network through the external hard drive attached to the router. Some of the devices won’t play all the formats but that is a whole separate issue. I can also share the drive across all the PC’s in the house. I also setup the VPN so I can play my Xbox One on my laptop while I am traveling. It was pretty easy to setup the VPN and everything worked perfect if you follow the directions exactly. There were a few minor issues along the way. The USB 3.0 port is a little finicky with an attached drive. I was able to only use the 2.0 port at first but that seems to be corrected after the last firmware update. There is also a little bit of a tradeoff for the router. Everything is easy to configure and get up and running but you lose a little granularity and control. You cannot create users for individual access to shared folders and you have to be a little careful about turning on HTTPS access. It can literally expose everything on a HD connected to the router in the click of a couple buttons. Online gaming has been improved, in the evening it is an all-out war for bandwidth between tablets and video streaming. The QOS (you need to enable it) does its job. You can also easily assign each device a priority level ….so I always win. I set my PC as the “highest” and everything else as “medium”. While I did not pay for the router (received Net ears friends & family program) I would absolutely recommend NETGEAR Nighthawk X8- AC5300 (R8500) for the price. I paid more for the last router that I am replacing and this does a lot more and is much more geared to how everything is connected in my house.

Reboot Loop Issue ...31 days after purchase
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Router rebooted occasionally in first 30 days, but I thought nothing of it. Then on day 31, it started rebooting over and over. Tried all the resets, powering on off. Spent 5 hours with netgear support and got nowhere. Going to Best Buy tonight to see if they will allow it returned without box. I have Found many articles that many have faced this problem. Netgear not willing to replace, would rather send a refurbished model. I don't have days to wait on new router, I work from home. If Best Buy will not take this, then I am done with them. Already never buying Netgear product again.

No support for unopened/unused Nighthawk router
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Netgear refused to service a new and unopened product that was faulty. Due to illness, unable to have geek squad install upon purchase. When the geek squad took nighthawk out of the box, it did not function. Because it was past warranty I called to see if there was somewhere to send item for service. Netgear only wanted to service via my internet. nothing wrong with the internet...the problem was the router. It needed to be serviced per geek squad tech.
