Did not work out of box

The X8 stopped working after few hours. Called Netgear support, person had me run some tests, then determined it was a defective unit. Asked me to take it back to BestBuy and exchange it for a new one. I spent 40 minutes on the phone with Netgear Support and not I have to drive to BestBuy and exchange. What a waste of time. I expect that product work out of the box. I asked NetGear why should I get a NetGear, when the quailty is not so good. The tech person kept on saying the quailty of NetGear product is good, when I told her that my unit is not working, to me that is bad quality, not sure if will exchange for a new one, instead I will return and buy Asus. I plan on returning the unit tomorrow, in exchange for a ASUS, unless BestBuy can do something for the inconvenience.

    Not for Home Office

Disappointed Purchased for home office with office equipment (computers) wired to router, and others wireless. Other household devices wireless. I was very hopeful for higher throughput throughout. I was very disappointed to see the supposed gigabit Ethernet ports performance. They throttled back to only about 550 Mbs, not good. Returned the item.

HUGE DISSAPOINTMENT - NOT WORTH THE PRICE

I picked up the NETGEAR - Nighthawk X8 AC5300 this afternnoon, brought it home, hooked it up, set it up and in about 2 hours time was convinced it is in no way, shape, or form, worth $404 Dollars. Absolutely NO performance gained as compared to my ASUS AC87R, no improvement in signal strength (my main reason for the purchase), no improvement in any aspect, in fact the user interface is less attractive and the available settings are LESS than the ASUS. I don't want to get into a long review, simply stated, if you own a router that is serving you well and you don't have any issues with, don't fork over your money for this thing, it is NOT worth it. I already reset it to factory settings, unplugged it, boxed and it is going bye-bye back to the store tomorrow.

last 1.5 years now just reboots

I purchased this router thinking it was the best since at the time it was the most expensive, exactly 1.5 years later i had to reboot the router by powering it off then back on and now all it does is reboot. If you try to contact technical support they want to charge you if you have had the product more than 90 days. In my world if you spend this much money for a product they should stand behind it better than that. I left my Apple Airport Extreme after several years just to try what I thought would be better. As my house is 2,800 SqFt and I did not have full coverage with the Airport Extreme. I moved to the R8500 and still did not have full coverage. Very disappointing. Thanks Netgear... Now I will be moving onto a hopefully better brand.

2.4GHZ DIED AFTER EXACTLY 2 MONTHS!

When I first set it up , it was great. Amazing wifi coverage everywhere, including outside. But after 2 months, the 2.4ghz died. I noticed that, when my 2.4ghz wifi camera wasn't connecting and my ecobee thermostat was not showing the weather. Tried to reboot it, but it was just rebooting over and over. Best Buy was very kind enough to take it back after my 45 days. Right now, I am using the ORBI Wif system. So far, so good with ORBI

We have to unplug and plug it in daily to perform. It keeps losing WIFI. The size is HUGE. NOT A FAN AT ALL. DO NOT BUY! For the price you would think you would get something that works!

0 star if possible! Beware guys! I bought this thinking it is the best I can afford and it only lasted me 1 night! The morning I woke up and only the power led is solid orange (amber). Called customer service and the guy told me it is a known issue with this model and he will replace mine with a refurbished. However, I have to pay for shipping on an 8 hours old unit or $40 for an advanced refurbished unit. NETGEAR are you kidding me? This is going straight back to Best Buy. Worst customer service now with worst product. This is my last piece of NG junk

    Horrible Customer Service

Product great for first 6 months. Issues with USB and network. After 90 days it costs money to give them a call. 90 day free support a good statement about their product ? I challenge anyone to try out Netgear's customer service. Really.... You'll be amazed. (Saddened)

Went through 2 of these, and netgear told me to return them to the store. On the last one I was finally told that any that start with the serial number 4P are defective
