Mesh Router System Of The Future
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The Orbi AXE 11000 Quad-Band WiFi 6E Mesh System is the first mesh system to finally sway me away from my more traditional high-end gaming router, but it stumbled out of the gate. I almost gave up on it, but I'm glad I was able to get it up and functional. When I received the Orbi system, I was very excited to connect it and get it up and running. I was extremely interested in seeing what this system could do. They system is comprised of a base unit and two satellite units. The satellites cannot take the place of the base. Unfortunately, the base would not complete the setup process because it refused to recognize being connected to my modem (a standard AT&T 1Gb Fiber modem). Since it did not recognize my modem, it could not connect to the internet, and I could not use it. I reached out to an Orbi product lead and also discussed this matter at length with the Netgear help desk. I will give them credit for being persistent. Various people from the help team called and emailed me at multiple points to see if the issue had resolved. They walked me through all the standard stuff (disconnect, reboot, reset, use web interface instead of app, etc), but nothing worked. I was convinced the primary unit had a dead WAN port. Of course, I also tried various cables to make sure it wasn't just a dead cable. Of the three units, only one has a WAN port. That one is the base unit, and for the record, it's a 10 Gbps WAN port, which is pretty impressive. The other two each have four LAN ports (one port on each is a 2.5Gbps port, but the base unit also only has one 2.5Gbps LAN port, which is frustrating). The remaining three ports on each are 1Gbps LAN ports. Eventually, I was able to take the system to a relative's house to see if it would recognize their Comcast modem. I thought the odds were low. To my surprise, it immediately recognized the modem and connected to the internet. I was able to download a software update. I then brought it home and connected it the exact same way I had tried multiple times before, and it worked. I was relieved but also extremely concerned. From what I can gather, the router needed an update to be able to recognize my AT&T Fiber service modem. If that is the case, if you also have AT&T Fiber service, I cannot recommend this router system unless Netgear updates the software from the factory. I am fortunate in that I had the luxury of taking this $1500 system to the home of a nearby family member who was willing to let me experiment with it there. Regardless, once I installed the update, it worked perfectly. I was able to easily set up the two satellites. I have one connected via the 2.5Gbps backhaul LAN and the other via the dedicated 5GHz backhaul network. Note, this second 5GHz band is only accessible for the backhaul network. While it's great to have and will provide a very stable, fast mesh network, it would be wonderful if you could access it for more than just a backhaul. And that would be particularly useful if there was at least one more 2.5Gbps backhaul LAN ports on the base unit. But I digress. Of course, you can set your network name and password. You can also reset the admin ID and password for the router, and I highly recommend you do so. And of course, you can set up a guest network, as well. As is typical these days, you cannot disable your SSID broadcast. Dear router companies, I understand your reasoning on this, but I'd still prefer to have the choice. IMO, it is good that the various bands (2.5GHz, 5GHz, and 6GHz) automatically have the same network name and password. With some prior routers, I've had to force the name for each band to be the same. The Orbi takes care of that and makes it the handoff for all network devices seamless. You have multiple security options, including the newer WPA3 protocol. Very few devices can handle the WPA3 security protocol. If you set it to WPA3, some devices simply will be unable to access your WiFi. I would have expected a blended WPA3/WPA2 option, but it's one or the other. You can set up a WPA2 "IoT" network, as well, if you just want to be able to have a few devices on a WPA3 network. WPA3 is more secure, but it is also incompatible with most devices. The Orbi app has improved since the last time I used it, but it is still far too limited. The interface is much nicer than it had been. And it does has some good features, such as a rich network map and the included network speed diagnostic tool. But if you have any technical changes you want to attempt, you'll have to use the web interface, which has more - but still not enough - options. This has long been a sticking point for me using Netgear products. It is better now, but Netgear still nerfs your control to a greater degree than I prefer. However, it is at least livable at this point. In terms of WiFi performance, this Orbi system is the best I have seen. The network is stable and fast. On my 1Gbps fiber connection, I regularly get Wifi results of nearly 940Mbps upload and 930Mbps download. We have a reasonably sized home. Our youngest daughter had previously complained about the WiFi signal in her bedroom, which is about as far away from our primary router location as you can get. She now has access to the full speed of the network. She says that will make completing her coursework easier for high school. I think it'll mostly be used to make it easier to play games; but either way, it shows the power of this system. The system also includes a 30-day free trial of Bitdefender. I have a LOT of devices connected to my network. I don't think I was quite prepared to have 100+ notifications blowing up my phone to tell me all my device connections had been scanned and found to have no vulnerabilities. I suppose it's a nice option, but I'd rather it ask me whether I wanted it on rather than be on automatically. You can, of course, turn off the notifications. Of course, this system is dramatic overkill for the vast majority of potential purchasers at this point. Very few devices can take advantage of the 6GHz network. Even fewer can connect with the WPA3 security protocol. Even fewer have a 10Gbps network connection. But that doesn't change how awesome this system is. This Orbi system is currently the fastest WiFi mesh system I have seen, and it also offers the broadest range of coverage. I am very pleased with that aspect of it. Each unit is large; that's in part because they include 12 antenna, but they look reasonably decent. I do wish it was a bit more configurable and that the app was more functional, but it gets the job done very well for 90%+ of users. The issues I encountered upfront with connecting to my AT&T Fiber modem are extremely concerning. Again, I cannot recommend the Orbi right now if you have AT&T Fiber service unless you have the ability to install and update it elsewhere first. I have contacted a product lead for Netgear about this issue, so I am hopeful it will be addressed soon going forward. Netgear has historically been very responsive to issues such as this when raised by product testers. But for everyone else, this is the mesh system to beat. If you can afford it, it's a great system that I heartily endorse. Despite my list of complaints, this is now my primary WiFi system in my own home. The speed and coverage overcome the more minor gripes about not being able to have the degree of control I'd prefer. I want my WiFi network to be fast, stable, and to have a terrific coverage range. The Orbi AXE 11000 Quad-Band WiFi 6E Mesh System is the simply the best I've found at those core functions.

Worth the money
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I had an Eero 6 system for 3 years that was provided by my ISP, but the rental price was increased so high that I could have bought this system twice over, so I decided to make a change and pulled the trigger on this system. Setup was super easy, though there were some growing pains with a couple of my smart home devices (Rachio mainly) that were easily resolved with a reset of the actual device. Speeds are quicker than the Eero, and the coverage is much better overall. Highly recommend.

Top of the Line, with features and price to match
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.TL;DR Version: This is the full-featured, top of line model from Netgear's Orbi (mesh) system with a price to match. Unfortunately, the performance and some of Netgear's UI/UX choices make this not a great value for the price. I have been using the Orbi for about two weeks as my primary home router with a mix of hardwired and wireless devices, including several WiFi 6 and one WiFi 6E capable devices, and about a dozen IoT devices. The Orbi provides great bandwidth and signal to all of my devices, and overall I had no significant issues or performance issues with most of my devices. The setup and installation process was fairly easy, but heavily reliant on using Netgear's mobile app for the best experience. Orbi provides a dedicated IoT SSID, which is a great way to isolate potentially insecure IoT devices from affecting the rest of your network. There's also a way to setup a dedicated 6 Ghz SSID to allow your 6E devices to take advantage of the increased performance available. Unfortunately, I had several issues with maintaining a stable connection with my 6E device. I was not able to isolate the cause of the connection issue to the Orbi, but the same device does not have any problems maintaining a stable connection on the other 5 Ghz and 2.4 Ghz bands being broadcast on the Orbi, so I suspect the fault may lie with the Orbi. Netgear has a mobile app and heavily encourages users to setup and maintain the Orbi via the mobile app. Unfortunately, some of the more advanced configuration options are only available via the desktop web interface. This issue is further complicated because Netgear removed remote web management capability from the router, so there's no way to perform advanced management and configuration options from anything other than direct connection. Netgear also recently moved many security monitoring, parental controls and firewall functions into it's Netgear "Armor" product. Unfortunately, Armor only has a 30-day free trial, and there is no free tier of service that provides even basic parental controls or security monitoring tools, which are standard features on most other routers I've used. This is even more disappointing considering the premium price that Netgear asks us to pay. Overall, this is a great system, if you can stomach the price that Netgear is asking. Perhaps if they have a separate model with only two units (router/satellite vs. router & two satellites), the MSRP would be a lower offering. There's definitely better value if you don't need or have 6E devices, both in Netgear's lineup and other brands.

Premium speeds and future-proof for a large home
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. One router, two satellites. I have two WiFi 6E-compatible devices, the rest are 6 and below. Even with mostly older devices, this setup is fast - REALLY fast. This setup has 4 bands - 3 of which are used for connection, then 4th for back-haul communications between the satellites and the router, so the communications between the ORBI devices doesn't interfere with anything else. Prior, I was using a router as an access point for two of my camera DVR's to connect to the internet, using it to connect wirelessly to my main router , but the wifi connection interfered with the wireless network that the cameras used since they were on the same bands. Now, with the router/satellites using 6ghz to talk to one another, nothing butts heads with my cameras and in turn zero interference. Additionally, even though my internet is only 200MB, I was able to test connection between my two 6E devices on the network - HOLY SMOKES it's fast! I've never before seen files move as quickly as I do on this setup! You would think that the Netgear Armor would not be an added monthly or yearly fee - but it is , even though this setup carries a premium price tag. If you want to future-proof your home, this is definitely the route to go. It's rated for 9000 square feet, and you can add even more satellites if the need is there. TOP NOTCH mesh network !

Blazing WiFi Speed & Extended Range
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The NETGEAR - Orbi AXE11000 Quad-Band Mesh Wi-Fi System represents the Ultimate Performance Driven Mesh System available today. For openers, my previous mesh system used 1 router & 4 Satellites, each connected via ethernet between rooms. Windstream Digital Fibre is my service provider, with 1GB Up / Down. Measured speed: Old 5-Piece Mesh System: 249 Mbps Download. 212 Mbps Upload. Netgear Orbi AXE11000 Measured Speed: 929.22 Mbps Download. 932.03 Mbps Upload. The speed difference is absolutely stunning. I was able to locate the Orbi where I wanted to, using the 4th band to communicate between Mesh units, rather than being stuck where ethernet is run in the house, as I was previously. The iPhone app shows & identifies each connected point. I have 173 wireless points; this Mesh system handles 200 points with ease. I called technical support during start-up, as I was unable to get the Satellites working on my own. The startup procedure was vague, as I did not find detailed instructions online or in any manual. Fortunately, a clear, english-speaking lady based in the US answered tech support at 10PM, and most graciously stayed online with me for 2 hours, until all satellites were setup and working perfectly. She was in no hurry & I have never experienced such helpful tech support with ultimate patience & technical competence. CONCLUSION: I cannot recommend the Netgear Orbi AXE11000 Quad-Band Mesh Wi-Fi System highly enough. I work from home, so having a dependable ultra high speed Wi-Fi that permits multiple 4K streaming without any dropouts is well worth the cost.

Performance You Pay For
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have tested a number of home wireless mesh setups over the years and jumped at the opportunity to test the Orbi AXE110000 WiFi 6E mesh router. Long story short, performance and coverage were stellar, but I was ultimately disappointed with the package. The lack of IPv6 routing, limited configuration options, annoying in-app ads for additional paid services, and 4 digit price tag make this a non-starter for me. The Orbi AXE11000 mesh package consists of a router, two satellite units, power supplies, and an Ethernet cable. Each unit has a 4 port hub built in for peripherals, a very nice touch. The router has an additional 10G Ethernet port for Internet connection. The router and satellites are otherwise identical and a bit of an eyesore, standing about a foot tall and 6 inches wide. Setup was almost trivial. Download the app(Android, in my case), scan the QR code on the bottom of the router, power it on and connect it to the Internet. After the router is connected, power on the satellites and they automagically connect to the router. During setup, the only mandatory question was the SSID and password for the main WiFi network. There are options to enable an IOT and Guest network, but both can be added later. Took about 10 minutes, including a firmware update, to replace my existing network. There is a WiFi analyzer built into the app, so you can fiddle with the location of the router and satellites for best coverage. This is where things kind of came apart. I have about 50 devices currently connected to my existing network, which was using different subnet (192.168.6.x instead of 192.168.1.x) than the default Orbi 192.168.1.x network. There is no option to set the subnet or subnet mask (network range), so about half the devices failed to connect and had to be power cycled because they couldn't get the IP address and network they had been using. There are also a couple of devices that were set up for IPv6 and those had to be reconfigured for IPv4. There is no option in the Orbi app to set the dhcp addresses and range, or to enable IPv6 routing. There are two 'security' add-ons, at a monthly subscription fee. The first provides Bitdefender enabled application type security and vulnerability scans for $99 a year. There is an additional addon for 'enhanced' parental controls. And ads. Lots of ads. Both the addons get popups in the app to enable the additional services. Both addons are enabled for a 30 day trial. There are options to enable an IOT network and a Guest network. There don't appear to be any options to map them onto separate subnets, or to limit them to particular WiFi bands, or even to traffic limit them. It's also interesting that the Orbi offers a separate IOT network option, but doesn't provide any sort of home hub, such as ZigBee. Overall, I found myself pretty disappointed with the Orbi AXE11000. While performance was stellar, the lack of configuration options and IPv6 support makes this a non-starter for my network. And the ads! Really, in a $1500 system it's necessary to continually upsell addon services? Really too bad, because what it did, it did very well, but overall a major disappointment, especially at this price point. Not recommended.

Great mesh system!
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The NETGEAR - Orbi AXE11000 is a great router. It is simple to set up and coverage is excellent. Previously we had used the Xfinity Xfi router and it did a decent job. However, the corner bedroom on the second floor would see drops in connectivity, as well as our back porch. With this Orbi mesh router, all dead spots are gone! Setup was fairly straightforward. Just download the Orbi app and it will guide you through everything. Hardest part is probably going be deciding where to place each satellite. After setup, I ran some speed tests and am pleased with the results. In my office, where the router is located, I get about 900mb down on my iPhone 12. Everywhere else in the house, I get 600mb down. This is a fast improvement over my previous router by about 300mb! The Orbi app works great. Haven’t noticed any issues with it so far. You get 30 days free parental controls which is a must in my house. When you set up the router you will get an offer for 50% off the “regular” price which ends up being $35 for the year. Decent price but not a fan of having to pay for parental controls. You will also have an option to pay for what Netgear calls “Armor Security”. Where they charge $40 per year to monitor devices on your network for security threats. All in all, it is an excellent mesh system. I am super pleased with it so far. If you’re looking for the latest in WiFi technology, then I strongly recommend the Orbi AXE 11000!

Great Coverage
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I upgraded my old Orbi to the 960. While these are pricey, the coverage is insane. I was having connectivity issue at each side of my home. In the master bedroom, I'd be lucky if I got 10Mb. Now I am getting 600Mb. Now outside at the back of my yard, I can get 50 - 100Mb where I could not even see my WiFi, These are pricey, but well worth it.

Great Speed and Coverage
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This Orbi Quad-band provides outstanding coverage in my home which is large (approx 7000 soft) and complex in terms of layout and materials used. I was certain I would need another satellite however the coverage is strong throughout the house. I migrated from a Google Nest where I had 5 points and never once had consistent or strong coverage. Areas for improvement include greater configurability and built in parental controls. Google did a great job with this and I miss it with the Orbi. Given the tradeoff however I will take great coverage over configurability all day long. Overall very satisfied and feel like it was worth every cent.

The Ultimate Mesh System
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have used several mesh systems and gaming routers over the years but nothing quite touches the Orbi AXE11000. This is a system you can purchase and forget about having to do any upgrades for a LONG time! It has every feature imaginable in a router, and it extends that over a massive space. There is no corner of my home now that does not have maximum signal strength on Wi-Fi! With 6E the speeds are something I have never experienced wirelessly before! Pair this with a solid gigabit internet and you will be blown away!

High performance with frustrating setup
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have a 2400 square foot loft that I’m constantly struggling with the Wi-Fi being strong enough from one end to the other. In doing my research I found this latest and greatest Netgear Orbi system would check all of the boxes in terms of latest technology, most features, and simplified setup. Two of the three were right but maybe the last one proved to be very challenging. First things first - if you are using a gateway from your service provider that already includes Wi-Fi, you’ll have to make some adjustments inside the system to allow you to connect fully. The NetGear app had me thinking my system was up only to find it wasn’t passing through correctly and devices couldn’t access any sites or over the top services due to security certificate errors. That leads me to the app itself - it worked once and never worked again. At this point it still says my system is set up. I have to go around it through the web browser to get the system up and this becomes frustrating every time the power happens to go off around here. That all being said - when it works, it works great. Device traffic around here is pretty heavy and I see both higher speeds and less bandwidth choking when multiple devices are streaming. The added benefit of the network ports on the back of the satellites means my TV and gaming device can run off wired connections and improves stability. Overall I’d say it’s a great product functionally but the user experience is likely to give you some heartburn depending on how your internet provider works.

Blazing Fast Speeds & Unmatched Coverage!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I recently upgraded to the NETGEAR Orbi AXE11000 Quad-band WiFi 6E Mesh System, and it has completely transformed my home network! From the moment I set it up, I was blown away by the seamless installation process and the incredible speed boost. The coverage is outstanding—I get strong, stable WiFi in every corner of my home, even in areas that used to be dead zones. Whether I’m streaming 4K videos, gaming online, or handling video calls, the connection remains rock-solid with zero lag. The addition of the 6GHz band is a game-changer, ensuring my latest devices get ultra-fast speeds without congestion. The Orbi app makes managing my network a breeze, allowing me to monitor speeds, set parental controls, and prioritize devices effortlessly. While it’s a premium investment, the performance and reliability make it worth every penny. If you’re looking for the best WiFi system on the market, this is it! Highly recommend!

Orbi AXE11000 Quad-Band WiFi 6E Mesh (PERFECT!)
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I absolutely love this system. I've wanted to add WiFi 6 to my network for a little over a year now, but have been hesitant because I didn't know if it would really benefit me much. I have had drastic improvements to my network devices because of this upgrade. Setup was simple and while I didn't follow the instructions to the letter, I was able to read them and get back on track quite easily. This system does not lock you down, in that you can easily swap it over to AP mode and allow your existing system to handle routing. There are many options available for their use. The only caveat to this is that you must use your web browser, instead of the app, to make many of these changes. I really appreciate the level of control I have over this system.

Easy Wi-Fi Upgrade
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. Our house (5k sqft) went from weak and dead zones to strong signal everywhere. Router is in the basement, 1 satellite on main floor, 2nd satellite on second floor. Easy to set up instructions, Super easy to edit Netwok name and password to existing, really minimize adjusting connected devices.

A hefty and complete approach to WiFi
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I was provided one set of Orbi AXE11000 Quad-Band WiFi 6E Mesh System (a set of 3) in exchange for an unbiased review of it. For our family, we have dozens of devices around the house -- from iOS-based to various third-party -- that need to be able to communicate with the Internet in some way. Previous to this set, we had used a different vendor's mesh system with three nodes but as a tri-band (non-Wifi 6/6e) and it was growing difficult to handle not simply the internal WiFi bandwidth but also number of devices. After we had that setup, we then went and bought a set of ASUS pack of two routers that were similarly tri-band but were WiFi 6-enabled. I set this up with a wireline backhaul using coax-to-ethernet communications (for an existing home, this was the easier solution over running Cat6 (or better) wiring throughout). While this setup certainly helped ease congestion in getting to the Internet, the challenge we had was getting out to the backyard sufficiently far enough away to cover our pool. Even with this setup, the 2.4Ghz band was never quite far enough to provide consistent access (not defined as anything more than double-digit bandwidth to be able to watch on an AppleTV projection screen!). Enter this set or Orbi nodes. Given that each node (router and two satellites, as they're formally known) has 12 antennae in each (and, as such, they weigh about 5lbs or so apiece), even having the router set up was enough to reach out to our pool area with consistent bandwidth (after setting up the two satellites, we're able to achieve a consistent triple-digit bandwidth access outside). Now, we live in a pretty sizable house, though it's two-story -- though nowhere near the stated 9,000 square feet that the box advertises. From a price perspective, you're really paying for not just the number of antennae and the quad-band tech, but for a system that's one of the first to handle WiFi6e, the latest standard in 802.11 wireless standards (as reference, WiFi 7 is due out in draft form by 2023, if I recall, so this gives some perspective as to where things are now). Could most folks handle one or even two nodes? Absolutely, and for slightly less money, though at the moment, Orbi doesn't allow a dual-device pack. As far as setup is concerned, Orbi has some improvements to make -- not so much that the devices won't get set up, but in terms of notifying that everything is good. And this could have been partly because I didn't go through a wizard from the get go; I knew I had to manually input Internet settings (which required attaching an Ethernet cable from my laptop to the router node, something that is typical and expected in such setup situations), but then set up each satellite per the only process available. The only issue that I ran into here was that Orbi would keep saying that a satellite wasn't successfully set up, when in fact it was (the second satellite had no such issue). For those who live in the world of wanting minute control over their device, this system is decidedly not for you. While the web interface allows some tweaking of system settings, if you're someone who enjoys getting into the weeds of your WiFi signaling, other vendors will definitely suite your style. However, if you want a system that is nicely packaged and effectively allows you to "set it and forget it," this would be it. Regarding the extras -- Netgear Armor (for "cybersecurity", a.k.a. network protection) and Parental Controls -- I have already seen where others will gripe and complain that, after spending four figures on the set, that Netgear should simply give these services away. While I'm not going to get into the profitability of whether that would make sense, what I can say is that the Netgear Armor service (which you can activate for a 30-day free trial) is worth the price for our situation. I was alerted every time we had not only a phishing attempt but also when a third party attempted to access our security system and Orbi immediately put a stop to it. I know for a fact that our previous "free" security apparatus never caught that. Further, the Armor subscription includes unlimited subscriptions for BitDefender software that can be installed on a number of devices for protection both on and off this WiFi network. As far as Parental Controls are concerned, I'm not sure we'll be going after this feature, though I assume it is as fully-functional as the Armor side of things. So far, so good -- from the point at which I simply used the same SSID to replace our existing routers, the Orbi system has performed flawlessly and is definitely production-ready. And the available security apparatus is worth the extra money, in my view.
