Get HDMI cable !! Especially if you have Windows 8

I've purchased ( and returned) two of these PTV3000's now, and am tired of wasting my time, gas, and blood-pressure, to either try to install, or return to Best Buy. I've spent NUMEROUS hours with SAMSUNG -my laptop OEM, INTEL - WiDi provider , GEEK SQUAD-I'm a member of Tech Support, MICROSOFT - Issuer of Windows 8, and last, but not least... N E T G E A R , the manufacturer of this useless, ill-conceived, poorly tested, and over-promised hunk of plastic. I've taken my laptop, and the device, into the store, several times, and even Best Buy can't get it to work !!! The 1st unit I purchased in December 2012, and it worked for approx. 30 seconds, each time, before "losing connectivity". After many reset attempts, with NETGEAR on the phone, giving me instructions, it finally started displaying the "Ready to Connect" screen, in CHINESE... the one I'm returning today, is now in ARABIC. This one I bought 3 days ago, thinking NETGEAR had 4 months to "work out the bugs". NOPE !! The "paper-clip" reset hole on the back of the unit, as well as, the "side-button" reset, on the side of the unit, are irrelevant. They accomplish nothing, in the end result. I would suggest that BEST BUY stop selling this garbage, until it gets manufactured in a user-friendly, usable way. Or, offer an alternative brand / device, other than Netgear's device !! I DO have great experience with other products offered by Netgear, but THIS particular device is a DISASTER !!!

    HEED THE WARNINGS!!!

I searched the reviews and I have found that the only problem was with the connection. Even the reviews that were good stated there were connection problems. I did not heed the warnings and bought it anyway. After spending numerous hours trying to connect, I deceided to return it. I even purchaced a new laptop thinking it was my device.

After upgrading the firmware I've been streaming movies from various Web sources flawlessly. The connection to the TV has been rock solid with a great 1080P picture and sound.

Bought this for my daughter who is just getting started out of school and a new job. She wanted to save money and not pay for cable TV. This works well, pushing shows from her laptop to the tv. Wasn't hard to set up and has worked well

    Terrible Product

I have this product 5 feet from NeatGear Router (high-end 802.11.ac), though through a standard sheetrock wall. Signal strength is 3 out of 5. This product continually loses sync with the signal from laptop (which has STRONG wireless signal). After losing sync it has NO automatic ability to re-sync, forcing me to go to computer to reset the connection! Using this device causes me continual problems, so much so that I cannot use the product for its intended purpose. DO NOT BUY, the firmware in it is completely worthless!

    Horrible Product

I have had this adapter for several months now and it hasn't worked once. I should have returned it but the nearest Best Buy is about 30 minutes away. I periodically power it up and try to get it to connect thinking "maybe this time will be different from the rest" but it hasn't connected once. One time I got to the point where it asks me to enter the security code but the software on my computer crashed upon entering it. Based on my experience with this adapter I will never buy another Intel product.

Save your money, or make SURE you can return it.

Exchanged the PTV2000 which did not work, for this unit, only to be informed at the register that for the PTV3000 exchange there "may be a restriction on returns", in other words, I cannot return this non working piece of scam. The PTV2000 worked poorly, but at least it worked. The PTV3000 barely worked for a few days, and now it would not reset to factory defaults, will not respond, will not even show anything on the TV's screen. Same cable, same TV, same computer, same worthless product. I am indeed considering a Better Business Bureau claim against Netgear for ripping my money in a way I had not been ripped in decades, and I do not even blame Best Buy, except for carrying the product. Hopefully it will be removed soon from shelves. What is happening with quality products in USA? I'd rather pay three times as much if the thing worked, and were reliable. Save your money, look for another product, and if I may say one more thing, stay away from Netgear for a while, they definitely have not put their act together yet.

My advice to all is to update the WiDi drivers on your computer and then update the firmware on the Push2tv device. Before doing than no picture after this everything worked.

It worked for me at the first time I connected. Just test it in my ASUS Zenbook UX302LA. win 8.1. Really good connection in my entire house, one time is connect it I can go with the notebook to any place in the house and the movie still playing good, also I can forward the movie from far. I don't know why it says just 10 ft from the unit. I have the N900 dual bad Net-gear WiFi too. So my only problem is with the movie audio that just reproduce the sound but not the people' voice some time. I have to reconnect my laptop to fix it. I haven't done any firmware update on it because it is working for me like that. I don't know if after the update will still working good or it will mess up something. Thanks

NOT for Windows 8 out of the box

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

This product does NOT support Windows 8 "out of the box". If you check with Netgear and read closely, they indicate the system will work for Windows 7 systems which have been upgraded to Windows 8. As of February 1st, 2013, Netgear does NOT have a release date for native Windows 8 drivers.

I bought this to use with my Moto X to stream movies on televisions while traveling. My older Droid 3 phone had an HDMI out which worked great. Moto X, you have to use Miracast so I bought this device. I am very disappointed in the quality. Movies and shows are very choppy and hard to watch. I will be returning this product today and will continue shopping for a better Miracast dongle.

    Technology Needs Improvement

The concept of wireless connecting phones and laptops to any HDTV is great, but this product fails to perform well enough. It does a decent job of mirroring my GS3 smartphone, but the connection is delayed, jumpy and frequently fails altogether from my laptop. I installed the latest firmware and drivers which helped a little but I never got more than 5 min of uninterrupted connection. It is a little quirky to get set up and connected in the first place if you're not technically inclined or haven't used WiDi (wireless display) before. In short I guess that there is a reason that other wireless laptop to TV products start at $160.

I do not leave feedbacks, and I do not do surveys. This being said I am so unhappy I am willing to waste my time to leave this review. I feel I represent a user who is comfortable with plug n play devices, wireless printers, cloud storage, Bluetooth devices and social media. If you fall into this category DO NOT buy this product. My experience was a lot of wasted time trying to download firmware, upgrade widi software removing drivers and refreshing back to computer factory settings, And trying all over again. Support from all parties involved also a waste of time. Finally I took the device and my laptop to bestbuy and had them hook it up to a geek squad TV. After being told for the third time that it does not work with windows 8 I gave up and returned it. Feel free to respond if you've had success with this product and have any usefull tips. GOOD LUCK>
