Does what it's designed to do
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Installed this in a 3500 sq.ft. house with the router at one end and this at the other. Push button setup (option 1) did not work (WEP Security). Used option 2 in the install guide with no problems (follow directions). The router creates two additional SSID's. It appends _2GEXT or _5GEXT onto the end of your original SSID. You'll need to go to each device you use to connect it to these new SSID's. Keep in mind that if your device does not support say 5 GHZ then you won't be able to connect to the _5GEXT network. This is not a problem with the Range Extender. The instructions say to place it somewhere it gets 3 bars (connection strength to the router#. The location I chose is remote and my wife's laptop has trouble staying connected #hence the need for the extender#. To my surprise we got 4 bars in this location. I'll likely move the extender to the adjoining media room to take advantage of the Ethernet ports. Note: the following devices have been successfully joined to these new networks. iPhone #both#, an original and new iPads, Motorola Note 2 #both#, Wii #2ghz only#, Lenovo and HP laptops #both#, Samsung Blue Ray player. I've yet to hookup an HP Laser Jet 1102W or an AT&T Micorcell #via Ethernet). I don't expect a problem with either.

An absolutely excellant product!!!!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have been thinking about getting a range extender for awhile, but was turned off by all the wires & trying to figure out how to make it work, becaused my problem was that my router is located in the front of the house, & the signal weakens in the master bedroom located in the rear of the house. Running wires throughout the house was not an option. So, when I finally decided to take the plunge & get one last week, I noticed this one was new & wireless so I decided to give it a try. It turned out to be one of the best decisions I have made. This thing is ridiculously easy to setup & it works great., but I must say that I also have a netgear router & i'm not sure if that played a part in it being so easy to setup because of compatibility. You can't go wrong with this product if you are having problems similar to mine.

What I have learned about WiFi extenders.
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. My setup is as follows. I live in a mother in law house next to a 3000 square foot home. So I essentially live in the back yard of another home. I use the internet from the main house via wifi. My wireless access point was very far from me. In fact it was in the opposite corner of the house next door to me. With this extender I was able to get full coverage in the mother in law house and can now pick up wifi anywhere in the yard of this one acre property. I am a heavy internet user. I like to stream movies in HD while playing online games, and downloading large files. Here is some specific data on transfer speeds for me. My internet connection via Ethernet is 30Mbps from Comcast. So 30Mbps is my baseline, that is as fast as it gets for this home (hard line to the internet). Now lets talk wifi speeds. The main house has a 802.11g wifi router. That router can give 20Mbs (via wifi) anywhere in the main house. The signal will not reach my mother in law house so this is where the WN2500RP WiFi Range Extender comes in. This extender is 802.11n and faster than my 802.11g router. Keep this in mind because you want to speed match your devices. A wifi network is only as fast as it weakest link. Also know that the benchmark numbers I am about give you are less than optimal because my network is mix matched. The WN2500RP WiFi Range Extender cuts the 20Mps speed from the main router down to 10Mbps. So basically it cuts network speed by 50%. I spent alot of time trying to get full speed from the extender and came to the conclusion from research that ALL extenders reduce speed by half. “No matter what they are called or technology they use, repeaters start out with a minimum 50% throughput loss. The reason is that a repeater must receive, then retransmit each packet using the same radio on the same channel and with the same SSID. If the repeater is very efficient, then your loss will be close to 50%. But if it’s not, throughput loss can be higher.”
