Customers are saying

Customers are pleased with the Universal Wi-Fi Range Extender's ease of use, Wi-Fi range, and signal strength. Many appreciate its quick setup, compact size, and good performance for the price. However, some experienced connection instability, and compatibility issues were also reported by a few users. The Ethernet port was a welcome feature for some.

Works well over a 50 yard outdoor span

Setup was very easy using WPS -- just pressed a button on my Netgear router and one on the extender. My installation sends a signal through a glass window in my house, over a 50-yard intervening space with some tree branches intruding, and through a glass window in an outside studio. Signal strength inside the studio is acceptable. Overall, great value for the price.

I have a 3000 sqft old Colonial with plaster and metal lathe walls, a finished basement, and carpeted wood floors upstairs. The reception in our basement with the just router was poor (20%). The NETGEAR Universal Wi-Fi Range Extender with Ethernet port has been placed in the basement room below the office. My entire basement NOW has at least 80% signal strength! I've gone to DSLReports.com to test speed and line integrity... the speed is super fast, though the signal did fail a test of some sort... It has not affected my video quality on my laptop or iPhone... I get a better signal with the extender through walls than I do with the router even when the extender is farther away than the router?!?

    Works well with occasional reboot

Purchased this extender for a N750 "wndr4000" Netgear router that had a weak signal to my far off bedroom with several walls in between. Works very well, although requires an occasional (monthly or so) reboot. Easy to install, and the reboot just requires unplugging for a minute. I run a Roku, 2 outdoor surveillance cameras, as well as a laptop and Android tablet through it.

Bought this primarily for my Xoom tablet. I got poor reception in my bedroom that is on the opposite end of my house and upstairs from my router. Everyday it would cut in and out continually and even when it had a connection it would only show 2 bars maximum. Plugged in the extender in the hallway halfway between my router and bedroom, hit the WPS button on my Netgear router and the WPS on the extender and 30 seconds later I had full signal in my bedroom. I have also added the network to my Droid X and laptop and netbook. All are much faster now. Literally took less than 3 minutes to get it up and running. Would recommend completely to anyone with signal loss problems.

I got my wifi router SSID not to broadcast for extra security. Printed instruction details is informative. Read thoroughly. Extender setup genie is easy to follow. I like the option where you could manually enter your stealthy wifi router SSID into extender wifi router to connect together and use this same SSID (remove _EXT)as your wifi router extender SSID. Use same password and security encryption as your wifi router. You can also set your extender wifi router SSID not to broadcast for extra security. Just enter manually into your device the SSID and password of your router's(wifi and extender). By doing this, you don't have to switch between two different SSID in your device when you move out of range of router signal on one router to another.

First off, I was taken back how small and light this unit is. Pug-n-play, Easy to setup and now I have coverage to my bedroom on the second floor. Wifi wasn't strong enough to put out from the house addition before. Now, within minutes, all my electronics where updating from the extended wifi. Finally, coverage everywhere.

Have a 2 story home, approx. 3000 sq. ft., and with my wireless router on the first floor, the bedrooms on the 2nd floor on the other side of the house could only receive weak signals that came in and out constantly. Bought this unit and plugged in upstairs in the foyer (central location for the house) and so far, has worked extremely well. Kids now get full signal for all their games and computer connections. Very pleased but not sure of the unit's longevity. Only minor issue is the unit does not seem to auto connect to the router f I turn off the extender. This is a minor issue and overall, this was a breeze to set up and operates very well overall.

Had existing wifi setup in the front of the house. Going into the back rooms, signal strength dropped to 1 to 2 bars. In one corner of the family room, it was lost completely. Placed the range extender about half the distance to the back area and we get full signal strength throughout the back rooms, including the family room. I'm very pleased with the product. It was very easy to install and switch our iPhones, iPads and computers over to.

    Solved my problem

I have a great router with “excellent” reception with laptops anywhere in the house, but not with my smart phone on the side of the house which is separated from the router by two walls that used to serve as exterior walls (remodeled house). This greatly reduces signal strength. Now I can use my smart phone anywhere. Installation instructions and installation itself was very easy. I used the device at several outlets without having to “reinstall” it. Device uses same name as your network name, except it adds “EXT” to it. You put the same security code in as your existing network. This only has to be done once. Only drawback is if I use my phone on other side of house, closer to my router, I have to go to settings and change networks if I want the stronger signal. The other minor issue is that the device has to be used in an outlet, so if you have small kids, you have to find an outlet where they can't mess with it.

    Could Not Have Been Easier...

A WiFi-only iPad and a wireless desktop have had trouble getting a good WiFi signal in our master bedroom. Brought this home, took it out of the box, plugged it into a wall socket halfway in between, pushed it's button; then went to my NetGear wireless router, pushed it's button and shazam - now have an additional WiFi network that's just like the main one (security-wise), except it has '-EXT' on the end of the SSID - easy to find/connect to. Both the desktop and iPad went from little/no signal to the max. Problem solved. Of course, I had a NetGear wireless router, could have been a different story with another brand...

This extender is wonderful. I went to Best Buy to get this extender and an associate told me I should just update my wireless router. This made sense since mine is 4 years old. Plugged in the new hi powered router and the range was the same. very low connection on the opposite side of my house. I exchanged the router for the extender and I have full bars everywhere in my house now. The installation took less than 5 mins and was very easy. If you need better range get this product.

    Great product for extending WI-FI

The walls in my apartment are made of steel and concrete so I was only getting one or two bars of signal in the living room where I have a PC, PS3 and XBOX 360 set up. The NETGEAR 600 dual band router is set up in a room between my bedroom and the bathroom then theres the living room. The Wi-Fi Range Extender's set up was very easy with the plug and play feature. I just plugged the extender into an outlet in the center of the living room, pressed the plug and play button on both the router and extender and got a full five bars of signal in the livingroom as well as in the kitchen which is the furthest room from the router. I have a laptop in the kitchen and a second PS3 in my room. The kids room, where the router is has a Wii and second Xbox as well as two TV's. We would have two TV's streaming video's and the other two TV's playing on line at the same time with no lagging. I'm very satisfied with the NETGEAR extender and router.

after reading the reviews I decided to get this to extend the wifi range in the apartment. The apartment layout blocked the signal from the Living room to the bedroom. Connected this midway between the two rooms. I have a Netgear router so figured a Netgear extender would be safe. Installation was easy following the instructions. It just creates another signal named *-ext using the same password from the first. Took about 10 minutes and was up and going. The signal does seem to slow down sometimes with heavy streaming(youtube, movies) but that might be due to the service.
