Customers are pleased with the Universal Wi-Fi Range Extender's ease of use, Wi-Fi range, and signal strength. Many appreciate its quick setup, compact size, and good performance for the price. However, some experienced connection instability, and compatibility issues were also reported by a few users. The Ethernet port was a welcome feature for some.

I have been struggling with Wi Fi coverage in my ranch home for a very long time. I had tried several Wi Fi Extenders and this one finally provided covereage in areas where I had zero signal. It would have been nice to have full strength, but will settle with 3 bars out of 4.

Purchased this several years ago and it worked pretty well and served its purpose. As always as technology gets better so do the alternatives so I just replaced it with a mesh WiFi system but I give it kudos for the years it served its purpose!

Our house is not extremely large, but our primary internet connection is in one corner of our house and we are primarily in the opposite corner of the house. Without the extender the connection was week in our living room. With the addition of the extender,we have a much stronger signal strength throughout the house. The only negative was that wireless printers had to be reset with the name of the extender. But was a great investment.

My wireless belkin (n) router is 2 floors away from where I primarily use my laptop and cell phone on wifi. The back of my house & lower floors gets good wifi speed ( about 15-17 Mbps down and 2 Mbps up) which is what my service says is normal. It took about 10-15 min to set up this extender and found that in the bad zones (the top floor in front of my place) went from about 4 Mbps down & 1-2 Mbps up to 10 Mbps down & 2 up. What a big improvement since I really cant move the origional wifi router to a better place. Its not better than a hard wired connection or a well placed wifi router but it DID help me with the weak signal in the top front of my house 2 floors away. Only draw back is the price is a bit high and it makes a second network name which is not a big problem because it just adds (_EXT) to the end of your already existing network name. You will see each and its easy to switch back and forth to the stronger signal. Recommended.

Fairly simple setup and decent signal improvement

This worked well to extend coverage of my 2.4 GHz band to my patio. The router is at the front of the house and the patio is in the back, through a concrete block wall. I am able to extend the 2.4 GHz "guest" network to the patio and improve the signal strength by about 10 dbm. My router reaches outside normally, but will not be reachable about 30% of the time so this allows me to make outdoor coverage more reliable. I also like the idea of being able to make this an access point instead of just an extender. I didn't do that because I didn't want guests who use this as an access point to have access to the internal network. Used as an extender, it allowed me to extend just the guest network which is a nice feature. The speeds through the extender are somewhat slower than when I connect to the normal 2.4 GHz band inside. I can get about 20 mbps on the inside wifi, but only about 5-10 mbps using the extender as my wifi connection outside. But for simple browsing and email, nothing more is needed -- just a steady connection.

Works, but a beast to install

The Netgear WiFi range extenders are not compatible with AT&T router/modems that use WEP security protocol. You don't know this until you open the box and read the installation instructions. So installation is not by push of a couple of buttons. Netgear has a Genie installation program which, after I downloaded, could not identify the WiFi extender. (also couldn't register product because Netgear registration site couldn't recognize the serial number) After more than an hour dealing with it and reading FAQs, I called and went to Chat at same time. It took 8 minutes to connect with someone on Chat (phone call still on hold). After 40 minutes back and forth with Chat tech he asked if I had an iPad, which I did. Was then able to use iPad Network setting to establish link between router and extender. Everything copacetic now, but total time to install Extender was 2 hours, 30 minutes.

I have a Netgear router which made this installation simple. 1) Plug the unit in (must be equal distance from router to WIFI enabled device or closer to WIFI enabled device) 2) Press the WPS button on the router 3) Press the WPS button on the range extender Done!

We moved our router to the basement last summer from he first floor. We added a Visio DVD player that has WiFi and the signal from our router was too week for the DVD player to log on to our network so we added the Net gear WiFi Booster and problem solved !

    Solved the problem just fine

We have a new 148 foot wide single story house (that's almost 1/2 a football field!) and our wireless router is located just over 1/2 way from my dad's computer. He couldn't get decent or consistent signal so I decided to try a signal booster. My husband is the I.T. guru in this household but he was deployed within 36 hours of our furniture being delivered and we didn't have Internet service before he left -- so we didn't have any idea what our situation would really be like. I needed to solve the problem on my own, so I took a stab at it. I placed the booster in a hallway outlet just about 1/2 way between our wireless router and my dad's computer. Followed the directions in the box and voila! Dad has an "excellent" signal now. He's happy, I'm proud of myself and for about $70.00 the problem was solved. So far so good. There were many cheaper and some more expensive products at my local BB store but the tech was talking to another customer about his issue pretty much like min and recommended this model. I just said "well, that answers my questions too" and bought the unit and have been happy with my decision ever since.

    Far better than Belkin's version

    Posted .

Unlike Belkin's wifi extender, which looks like a full router in size, the netgear is small and fits right into the wall outlet. the signal boost is amazing, really easy to setup - and unlike Belkin, will NOT timeout. Only problem is because the components are top heavy, if your outlet is not a tight fit, this thing can fall down and make a loud thump! So try finding an outlet within range of your wifi that is a snug fit - or perhaps secure it with electrical tape/velco so it doesn't fall.

Extender took a couple of tries to get it set up. At first I kept getting a red light no matter where I set it up. After I reset the system and tried it again it worked great. We are now able to get a 3 to 4 bar signal even out to the back patio.

Easy to install, great reception, and discreet design. To install, you plug the device in and follow the simple instructions...install takes less than 5min. The device is wireless and plugs directly into an outlet, and it doesn't even obstruct the other outlet. Perfect solution if you are like me and have a WiFi-capable TV in a room that is too far from your wireless router to get a good connection.

I had this range extender installed and connected to my network in less than three minutes. The installation instructions were easy to follow and it improved my wireless signal on the otherside of the house from 32% to 82%. Highly recommended!

Set-up was easy! My problem was that my router was dying, but I didn't know it when I bought this, so it didn't give my signal that much of a boost. I did keep my laptop from disconnecting every few minutes. Now that I have a new router, I need to reconfigure this device for the new network, but I haven't yet.

I had recently upgraded my router to the Netgear 600 hoping to reach a bonus room that I couldn't reach with my cheaper Netgear. I got more speed but still couldn't reach all of the bonus room. Purchased the Netgear Extender and took care of the problem. Easy to set up - no DVD or other software required. Surprised that the price was equal to the router but considering my alternative was to relocate my modem and router along with running more cable and telephone wire I came out ahead.

My wireless router is on one side side of the house, and most the devices that use it are on the other side. Installed this repeater half-way between the two and immediately went to 5 bars on WI-Fi and excellent speeds. Setup was very simple. Recommend you grab one of these if you don't have the option of running cat-5.

This product gives me an extra 2 bars on the far end of the house where I used to barely get a signal or would be disconnected on my Samsung Infuse. I have not been disconnected from Wi-Fi at the far end of the house since using the Wi-Fi extender. It gives full signal strength on my laptop at the far end of the house from my router where we used to just get a fair signal. I highly recommend this Netgear Universal Wi-Fi Range extender !! It definitely works for our household !!
