Customers are saying

Customers are pleased with the Universal Wi-Fi Range Extender's ease of use, Wi-Fi range, and signal strength. Many appreciate its quick setup, compact size, and good performance for the price. However, some experienced connection instability, and compatibility issues were also reported by a few users. The Ethernet port was a welcome feature for some.

Works in some areas better than others. Doesn't go through walls and closed doors very good.

WiFi extender cuts the speed of your internet connection in half. This is pretty common for WiFi devices; however, if you are already cutting the speed of your connection with one WiFi router and then duplicating the signal with another WiFi device, you begin to seriously diminish your speed. Directly connected to my router via a cable I get ~25 Mbps, with WiFi I get around 12-16 Mbps, with the WiFi extender I get around 5-6 Mbps. I switched to a powerline ethernet device with a built in WiFi and now I get 12-16 Mbps via WiFi throughout my house. I found this to be best choice.

Installation was easy; worked very well for about a day, then started dropping connection. Moved it to different locations, but it didn't matter. It never went back to its original capability, and kept disconnecting every few minutes.

Device is perfect for use on the road in hotels to extend the wi fi. Price is rather steep.

Excellent Wi-Fi reception in large house now

Our large, long and 2-storied house has always had wi-fi weak zones. This extends the range and now we have no problems. You do need to program the device - it doesn't just plug into the wall and start working.

I bought this back in September to replace my dead Linksys range extender I had for several years. The signal from the router upstairs was pretty good, but my son used it for his X-Box. It would frequently disconnect from the router, but after several attempts, it would usually reconnect and stay connected for the duration of use. First of January, it too died. I called Netgear and spoke to tech support. After the required attempts to troubleshoot, they agreed to replace it. The replacement was a factory refurb. After numerous attempts to connect in the basement (signal of 52%), I brought it up to the main floor only a few feet from the router and it connected, only to lose it when back in the basement, and on parts of the main floor of the house. When speaking to tech support again, I was told that the unit required AT LEAST a 70% signal, and that the unit would NOT do what I expected it to do (what the Linksys had done for years). He also told me I should have spent more and bought a better one than this one. When asked about an exchange/upgrade for a "better" model, he told me I'd have to take it back to the store to upgrade, or for a refund. Although the reciept was gone, I'd kept the original packaging, and had a record of how I paid for it and when I bought it. I was able to get a full store credit for the refurb. Yea, Best Buy! I promptly used it toward a much needed laptop for my wife. Incidently, the extender sat nearer to the router than the Netgear USB adapter in our DISH reciever, that was fully functional. Of all the WiFi devices used in the house, that was the only one that would not work! Go figure!

I bought another one of these adapters that was "universal" and the quality was sub par. I love this extender.

Plugged it in, paired it with my wireless router with a couple button presses, and it works flawlessly. Now I have wireless coverage in the family room, important for tablet use!

no problems at all. However, it is odd that it is almost the same cost as the full blown router.

    Never worked, never found connection

I tried for days to get this to work, but could never get it to connect to my wireless router. It always said it was out of range or poor connection, and would never repeat the signal. Devices that connected to it always had poor connection, even if the device was sitting right next to the extender. I tried moving the extender into the same room as my wireless router, not more than 10 feet away. It still would not connect or would say it had a poor connection and would not repeat the signal. Returned and got my money back. I'll be looking into PowerLine adapters instead.

So, I was going to give this a not so great rating, but read someone's else's hints about set-up (that the manual doesn't tell you) and now I may have to try that and see if this thing stops tripping my router. I have to reset my modem sometimes twice a day since I put this thing in my house - have had to move it all over - maybe my house is so large I need two of these, I don't know. So, it's been challenging so far - still looking forward to it reaching everywhere we need it and working correctly, but then, it may be something I need to do to the other devices like one writer pointed out. Hey, maybe it's ME!! lol But the tripping thing is definately NOT me - so, I'm still going to work on it.

Bought this product because this brand was most common item at bestbuy location, but it was a colossal waste of my Sunday afternoon. I spent 3 hours + without success talking to multiple online reps for net gear and advised several times to discuss issues with my internet provider.... Not their problem. Then told later on third call that the product was defective and to return it. Argh!!!!! I bought a linksys and it was functional in 10 mins or less.... Perfect! The linksys was same price and easy. I'd. Give this product zero stars if I could.
