Customers are pleased with the Universal Wi-Fi Range Extender's ease of use, Wi-Fi range, and signal strength. Many appreciate its quick setup, compact size, and good performance for the price. However, some experienced connection instability, and compatibility issues were also reported by a few users. The Ethernet port was a welcome feature for some.

Doesn't work

The wireless extender does not work. I did a speed test going through the original wireless router and got faster internet speeds than going through the extender. Pointless.

Returned after an hour with tech support

I easily followed the instructions and connected my computer to the WN3000RP Range Extender; however, it would not connect me to the Internet. After spending an hour with Netgear's technical support and attempting to connect with two separate computers, I have to return the WN3000RP. This is the second Netgear product I've purchased and in each case I returned the item after an extended time with tech support which, incidentally, is located in India. I will not purchase another Netgear product.

Poor performance & location set-up

Your computer, etc. must be outside the full range of the original source router to avoid any overlap of signals. This seems to confuse all peripherals and cannot sort out enough to connect.
15 years of PC tech.. but still could not get it to work correctly. Returned for full refund.

I could never get a straight answer from Netgear or Best Buy on the perfromance of the product. It does not support 5.0 performance. It works fine at 2.4 after numerous calls to Netgear to get the proper setup.

Useless!

My experience with this product wasn't what I was expecting. My wireless network is running all NetGear equipment and runs really well, but I had a minor dead spot that I needed to resolve. This sold itself as the perfect solution. It wasn't, it in fact gave me a worse signal than the router alone. After relocating my router slightly, (like raising it 12" higher), my dead spot went away and I returned the "booster". I recommend tweaking the location of your wireless router before investing in any of these boosters. Love NetGear equipment, but this one is a failure in my opinion.

This product failed within 45 days.

The product completely stopped working within 45 days of purchasing it from Best Buy. The service call with Net Gear took 3 hours and 45 minutes because I was forced into an online chat instead of speaking with someone live. The result is an RMA that will take at least a week and a half if not longer to get a replacement. I completely understand if this was out of warranty or even over 3 months…. but a product that fails this fast should have a company that stands behind it with a better service plan.
I will not buy Net Gear again.

Setup does not work on a mobile device despite the directions saying it will work. Once it was setup the download speed was too slow to do anything. Connected to the original router I was getting 230 mbps, when connected to the extender it was only getting 6 mbps. If I could give it 0 stars I would.

Droped Connections

Our Comcast Router is upstairs in the corner office. We use this unit to extend our network to the lower family room. My wife and I both use Ipads. It works great when one of us are using it. But when "Both" of us are connected we seem to always be loosing connections to the network. One of us stops, problem totally goes away.
So I get the feeling there is a large issue with multiple users.

I recently got this product at my local BestBuy and they lied about everything about this product to there consumers. When you first hook it up everything works fine, but after 56 hours of use the extender freezes in its tracks. Which will frustrate anybody that has a gaming console because it will not get a download rate above 190 kilobits per second unless you are lucky. Over time after continuous use the extender will start to encounter major problems. I would not recommended this product to anyone.

Waste of Money

I have a NetGear router which works well. My new heating system came with a wireless control which wasn't seeing the home network. Thought this universal extender would solve the problem. I couldn't get the router & extender to communicate with each other. Finally called tech support which was a waste of time. The tech wanted to follow his written troubleshooting cards so it was hopeless to try & get him to jump ahead of the written procedure he was following. I ended up hanging up & returning the unit.

Installed it in my office. Didn't work. Got "move closer to router" message. Tried it in living room and got same message. Finally tried it in the same room as my router. Got same message. After three hours I brought it back to the store for a refund.

Little boost in wifi strength

The booster is about 10 feet from my blue ray rreceiver and works great.
It is about 25 feet from my computer and the increase in signal strength is barely noticible. I tried moving it about 10 feet closer to my computer, but the download speed dropped about 30%, I assume because it was 10 feet further from the wireless hub..
Occassionally this product will just stop communicating and the computer will default to the wireless hub.

Absolutely Terrible

This is an absolutely terrible product. It continuously drops signal and prompts me to re-setup the device. I literally couldn't keep a signal for more than 20 minutes. I bought this yesterday and I'm taking it back today. DO NOT BUY THIS.

I bought this range extender because I have a Netgear modem/router and I thought that being the same brand, it would be easy to make this "universal extender" work.
Needless to says that the plug in and play installation did not work. Called their customer service and after being frustrated for over 30 minutes I hanged the phone and returned the extender to the store.
Buy only if you know how to do the manual connection.

It calls itself 'plug and play' - it is not, and if I had read reviews first we never would have bought this. After 6 hours of 2 reasonably savvy people and 2 smart devices trying to make it connect properly, we decided to return it. AND, the promote their 24/7 customer support, but as it turns out they are not there at all.

Poor Service From Netgear

This was a great idea, but very poor service department ! Got to the third step on a secure wifi system and couldn't get any further ! Call service department and they weren't much help either ! Ended up returning the extender and still looking around for something else and easier to set up ! May work find on a unsecure network, but I wouldn't know ?
