Customers are saying

Customers are pleased with the Universal Wi-Fi Range Extender's ease of use, Wi-Fi range, and signal strength. Many appreciate its quick setup, compact size, and good performance for the price. However, some experienced connection instability, and compatibility issues were also reported by a few users. The Ethernet port was a welcome feature for some.

Doesn't work on networks with MAC ID filtering

When the existing network uses MAC ID filtering, the WN3000RP range extender refuses to connect to it. The client MAC ID the range extender presents to the existing network is NOT what is printed on the package or the unit (that MAC ID evidently applies to the wired port and possibly the network that the range extender creates). The client MAC ID can be determined by temporarily turning off MAC ID filtering on the existing network's router and then looking at the router's network client list. However, even when this MAC ID is entered into the router's "allowed" list, the range extender will not connect after MAC ID filtering is turned back on, as tested using two different wireless routers. Interestingly, when the router's MAC ID filtering is temporarily set to deny (rather than allow) the MAC IDs on the list, the range extender will appear to connect even though it then shouldn't (Router Link LED comes on, status on range extender shows as connected), although no connection through the range extender and the router to the internet is seen by the range extender's clients. There does not appear to be a firmware update that fixes this, and doing without the security benefit of MAC ID filtering is not an acceptable option for me, so I will need to return this unit. It would probably work quite well, though, on a network without MAC ID filtering.

I was looking into a wifi extender and only needed a small boost. Followed the instructions and set up went quickly. My only issue is my kids trying to pull it out of the wall, but it boots back up quickly.

We had an extremely low wireless signal in our home. The cable company we use was absolutely useless in trying to help us fix the problem. I went online to Best Buy and within minutes was able to pick out this product. It was worth every penny and is reasonably priced. It repaired our issues and we now have a consistant wireless signal throughout the house. Our house is log construction and the walls are thick. We have 2 desktops in different parts of the house and one laptop, that already had wireless capability. This product pretty much guides you through the set up. We had only one minor problem due to having 3 different operating systems on our computers but Netgears tech support helped us to resolve that. We now networked, and no thanks to the lousy cable company! THANKS NETGEAR!

We had cable installed a few months ago, with the promise we could get Netflix. Didn't happen. A relative, who is an expert in this, told me to buy this item. We now have internet throughout our small house.

This product along with my new net gear router made it possible for me to get wifi in a back room. This extender was compatible with my router and that is why I purchased it. Was recommended by an employee at Best Buy and I was very pleased at how it all worked. I did have the Geek Squad install both for me as I am a novice.

Because my home office is in a separate structure from our main house, to get a signal from our Comcast wireless router to the "guest house" is about 100 feet, through 3 sets of exterior walls. There was no signal whatsoever without the extender. Once I got it setup, I have very good wi-fi connection. However, the very skimpy documentation that comes with the device was inadequate to guide me as to the set up. I needed to go online and research it, which added an hour to the process.
