While some experienced connection difficulties or compatibility problems, the positive feedback on ease of use and performance outweighs the negative. Good Home Router

I have a 1700 sqft home (2 stories) the router is on the 2nd floor in the corner of the house and I still have 4 bars on the first floor opposite corner. It has all of the settings needed for secure wireless use (you just need to really talk to someone who knows how to set them up to be sure) Make sure you set up MAC addresses only.

Netgear is the best outer that no one has heard of. Hands down, better than linksys and D-link. Don't pay the extra money for another router.

    The Little Router that couldn't

I had trouble with this Netgear from the beginning. I wanted to use it for home wifi and to connect my server to the internet to host websites. I was able to make it host wifi in the house, and it was pretty fast. It was nice not having to use an install CD. Then the fur hit the fan. Trying to make it open ports to serve web pages was a nightmare. You can specify port forwarding, but the more ports I added, the slower the router got until it was nonresponsive. Reset and start over. I tried to enable PPTP, L2TP, VPN passthrough, etc so my brother could remotely access the server... it was impossible. Between the two of us we COULD NOT open the passthru ports. We had to install 3rd party software to tunnel through the Netgear. I spent two weeks trying to get port 80 open so I could host websites. HTTPS was flawless, SMTP worked fine, etc. But no web pages for you. I went to the Netgear support forum and the main tech guy there said Netgear consumer routers are iffy trying to open and use port 80 outbound. So I unchecked "Disable ICMP proxy" and BEHOLD!!! The router served web pages for 20 seconds!!! Then it quit again. Tech support recommended trying new firmware. I said no thanks. I took it back to Best Buy and bought a Linksys E1200 for the same price. Within 30 minutes I had it up and running perfectly, hosting web sites again. Bottom line: it's an unreliable and inconsistent toy. Firewall settings mean nothing. It does not DO what the GUI says it's doing. Making specific changes to the configuration act as suggestions to its firmware ... you are not actually controlling its function. If you want nothing more than to play with wifi at home, it might work. Netflix dropped its connection frequently. If you eventually want to learn networking and do more with your internet connection some day, you'll be buying something else. Might as well buy it now.

I hade the little white netgear router first off, it was good but only did b&g. instalation was easy for the most part other than comcast was having problems, but power went out and was unable to reconfigure it, had black tie and brought it back. and purchased the difference to go to this router which also does b g n so more versatile and has a faster mbps rating. after month or two no problems has two laptops a mac and pc two Motorola droids and a wii. also a nice feature is the "guest" network you can create.
