Customers are saying

Customers value the Wireless-N Router's ease of use, performance, and affordable price. Many appreciate its strong signal and wide range, making setup and daily use convenient. While some experienced connection difficulties or compatibility problems, the positive feedback on ease of use and performance outweighs the negative. The router's compact size is also a frequently cited advantage.

The price was right and once I got it going the performance has been OK but the installation was difficult and I am not a total novice.

When I only needed it for my kindle and phone it worked great. Then I added a laptop and the trouble started. It keeps dropping connection now so I'll have to buy a stronger one. Save yourself some money and aggravation buy buying a better one to start out.

Not dependable for wireless small office

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

Purchased for a small office of 3 computers and 1 printer. Within 5 hours, and every 5 hours afterwards, the wireless network would just disappear. Requiring a restart of the router. I updated the firmware and contacted support hoping the fix was something not packaged with the hardware. Well the firmware upgrade didn't help and the tech support, though pleasant, walked me through a soft-reboot and told me that would fix my problem. Forward 5 hours, and it goes down again, contact Netgear support and they regurgitate the entire User Manual to me in an email follow up. I returned the item for an identical one believing at this stage it is a hardware failure of the first purchased router. But guess what, the second one failed also, at the exact same 5 hour interval as the first. And tech support kept trying to walk me through the User Manual again and again and again. I should've been leary when I first noticed the wireless on/off button that is more like a reset on the back, I don't know of too many other routers that require a wireless reboot enough to warrant its own button. NOT THIS ROUTER FOR WIRELESS!

    Avoid this one

This is the second Netgear router that I've had to return. I bought it for my daughter who was getting setup in her new apartment. I wasn't able to use the installation CD since it doesn't support Mac OS Lion, but that was not a show stopper. I just went to the Netgear web site for manual configuration instructions. The next morning my daughter called to say that her network was "down." Here wireless was down and she couldn't even log into the router using an ethernet cable. She had to power the router off and back on to get connected. The same thing happened again that afternoon. We fought with the router for the next week. During that time I upgraded the firmware, but that did not help. Over the two week period the wireless network never stayed up more than 24 hours. Sometimes we could log in to the router via ethernet cable, but not always. In each case we had to power the modem off and on to bring the wireless network back up. I finally took the router back and exchanged it for a Linksys brand. That router has been up and running almost a month without any issues.

Performed worse than my old Netgear G

This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

You would think that N would perform better than G but this router's antennas must be weak. Where my G would get 36/48 Mbps in my office, this router would get 11/18/29/39 and it was all over the place. Replaced it with a WNR3400 (WNR3700 only has a GbE port, not worth it) and signal is much better

    Not so great router

I thought this router was good at first based on what the salesperson told me and my first week using it, but now it is very frustrating. Sometimes I have full connection, but a lot times, especially at night, I only get 1 or 2 bars. Always interrupts my netflix viewing and when the connection is poor I can't even do research for school. Disappointed with the quality of this router.

Netgear is a ripoff company, don't buy it

    Posted .

The company is a total ripoff!! My router was down foe like no reason, so we called the customer service. A man in Bangalore or Bombai answered, and asked for our warranty issue. It turns out that netgear has only 3 months of warranty. After that, he started to give fxxxing useless advices, like plug in and plug off, and change another outlets. Come on, at least try to reboot, not to mention enter the router with administrator access. After plug-in and out, he started to sell the so-called "internet care" package or whatever. He claimed he would help us only if we purchase the package, which is $79.99 for 6 months. What is included, you may ask? well it's like solving basic issues from remote via phone calls and emails. Netgear doesn't even send a guy to see what happens, and that cost 79.99?

    Unreliable connection

I've owned several Netgear routers in the past and never had any connection problems. This one disconnected twice/day on average, once in the AM, once in the PM (it seemed). Modem, however, showed a good connection throughout. I've since replaced with an Apple Airport Express and had no problems.

I had this product for about 5 months. It kicks me off the internet around 5 times a month and I have to re-boot the computer. This is clearly a flaw with the product. Customer service is very unhelpful even though the product itself has problems. Buy something else not this prouct.

getting ready to try my 3rd one. 1st one wifi died after 6 weeks, 2nd lasted 2 days and started dropping wifi, Seems to be a common theme with this model. On top of that my wife went to get another one and local store said didn't carry it. Online said they did. Sales person didn't even bother to check inventory for this sku. Turns out they had nine on shelf. Found out after I bought one at another retailer. very unsatisfied.

    Drop once a day

We have a PS3, xBox360, and a couple of laptops that use the wireless network. We had a Belkin G wireless router that would drop the gaming systems off about once a week. We bought this NetGear N router in hopes of better performance. Not only does it not perform better it drops the wireless users at least once a day. The Belkin G was much more reliable.

    DISCONNECTS ALL THE TIME

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

I switched over to cable internet with Time Warner and I chose to buy my own modem. This modem was recommended by a Best Buy salesman. It worked fine for the first day. After the first day I get at least 2-3 disconnects a day where I lose my internet completely and the only way to resolve the problem is through a reboot of the router. So if you're planning on hvaing a businesses conference over skype or play an online game that requires a stable connection this is not for you. Sometimes I even have to reboot the modem. This router has a log that records any suspicious activity as a DOS log so for a while I became a little paranoid that maybe I was getting attacked or had a trojan. I've done scans and the results have come up negative. I called up my ISP to see if the problem was my cable connection and it wasn't. I'm about to return this product. Since I've gotten it I've only had headaches. Go with a Cisco Linksys instead.

I would not recommend this router. The salesman knew who my internet provider is but I don't know if this is just a bad router or if it is not compatible with my provider. Either way it does not work. Now I will see how Best Buy's customer service is in making it right.,

I bought the wnr2000 and a range max adapter 311b to use with two laptops and one desk top. Could not get through to tech supoort on phone but finally got an answer when I went on line. Resloved one issue I had with windstreasm combo modem router. Another annoying thing with netgear is you don't get an e mail responce you get an email telling you to go to thier web site to get answer. The next issue was with the desk top. When I pushed the connect button it wiped out my network ips. Tried web again and was directed to phone. The person on the phone would not understand that my computer worked before net gear addapter. And insited that it was a windstream problem. I asked to talk to his supervisor and he told me he had already told me where my problem was and that he would not give me to his supervisor. My advice is never ever buy netgear. Best Buy did offer to install product but at a price to steep for me.

Got it all installed and it was easy. Ran just fine, then a week later it decided it didn't want to connect to the internet any more. Did all the normal trouble shooting and it wouldn't work so took it back and got a Belkin instead and it is working great!

The connectivity is terrible. I was booted off some sites and it was very slow. I had the basic Netgear before it died after 4 years with no problems. It allowed me to use my computer on the patio. This one won't work well sitting next to it.

    Never got it to work

Had trouble from the beginning. Would connect with my Vista laptop, not with my 7 laptop. They said, the problem was with the brand new 7 laptop, so we returned that. Got the new one, same problem, same explanation. I don't think so. So, returned this router, got a new one. Same problem. Spent hours on the phone with tech support (NOT fun) and it never worked. So, I returned it and got another brand and will not buy another Netgear router.

    Signal Often Dropped

This router works well as a wired router, but I have had continuous problems maintaining a steady WiFi signal--even in the room next door. The signal is often dropped. As a result, I use it only as a wired router. Even though I purchased this product within the last 9 months, I am now in the market to replace it.
