      Hello,
      Thank you for your review.
The 320XR was not designed to be used with an app on the phone, I am afraid. It doesn’t have a Wi-Fi connection. The videos can be played on the Dash Cam itself, on the app for your computer, or directly from the SD card.

I watch a lot of dashcam footage online and was becoming interested in trying something with a front AND rear camera, so I was happy this came along. I've used other Nextbase cameras before and this one lives up to the quality I expected. First off, the design is similar to other Nextbase cameras with the oblong case and long barrel for the lens. This one does not work with their mobile apps, and has no Bluetooth or WiFi capability and is therefore lighter than models that do. Otherwise all of the included mounting hardware and cables are very similar to my other Nextbase. I installed this in my 2016 BMW 320i with little effort. If you have a BMW you may not know it but there's a 12v socket under the dash hidden in the passenger footwell in most models. This is a perfect place to power a dashcam since the wiring is hidden and the plug is out of sight. From there I went up the side of the dash and under the rubber on the pillar up to the corner of the windshield. Centered is the best placement, but the lens is so wide a foot or so doesn't make much of a difference. The kit includes a small tool to stuff wires under trim, too! The rear camera plugs into the front camera via a USB-C connection on the side of the camera. Here's where Nextbase loses me a little. Now I have to run a second cable back down to the floor trim and then to the back of the car. I wish the power plug incorporated the wiring back down from the front camera and I could plug the rear camera into that to make it tidier. That's how Garmin wired up the aux ports on their original Echo GPS units and it was great. There was plenty of cable to run along the floorboards, between the back seat and side wall and up to the rear windshield. The rear camera is round and unobtrusive and has a break-away cable built in so it would be easy to replace later if it fails for some reason. Picture quality is good with both cameras topping out at 1080p and 30fps. That's plenty to capture a license plate at close range. Remember, this is for protection, you're not filming a movie! Also keep in mind that if you drive poorly, the camera can incriminate you as well as it can protect you! Nextbase's mounting hardware is cool. It sticks to the windshield with 3M tape but mounts the camera magnetically, so you can pull it out quickly to retrieve the SD card or if you want to hide it in a sketchy area. The rear camera mount is permanent however. Also, the camera does not include an SD card, so you will need to purchase one. The unit REQUIRES a U3 or better card (Just look for the little U symbol on the package with a number in it.) For reference I tried a U1 card and received a message to use another card. If you plan to reuse and old card, be sure it's a U3. 32GB should be more than sufficient. The world is getting crazier by the week, so I'm happy to have something in my car to back up my side of the story if necessary, and being able to record front AND back are important to me.

Hello, I am very sorry to hear that you were involved in an incident. I do hope you are well.

The dashcam being powered by the 12v CLC should not cause an issue with your recordings.

Please can I ask you to ensure that there is no file located in the protected folder of this incident?

It may also be worth checking the files on a PC or laptop to see if there are any that cannot be opened.

      Hello John,

Thank you for taking the time to leave a review I am so sorry to hear you are experiencing an issue with the dashcam, if it is constantly freezing we would recommend checking the SD card you're using to make sure is is compatible with the camera. You can test this by taking out the SD card and pressing the Reset button if it works correctly it might indicate this is the issue. However, if the same thing keeps happening please get in touch with our support team at nasupport@nextbase.com to help you!

Great basic dashcam. Includes separate rear cam installed in your rear window for rearview of rear end collisions or other issues or just viewing the scenery. Up to 1080p resolution for good detail. Also 720p if you don't need 1080p or just want to save some space. Comes with cables needed for installation; fairly simple to install if you're a little bit handy. Adhesive mounts so not easily moved to a different car but easily removed with magnetic mounts to the adhesive ones so you can stash it or carry it with you. App not required or offered (which is a plus for me) so no subscription fees. Does have a pc viewing app available for free which allows viewing of saved videos and some extended features. Nice to have if you have an accident or some other interesting stuff. Also website for uploading videos if you want to. Camera is small so shouldn't interfere with your field of view. No touchscreen, just buttons for setup and use. I actually prefer buttons for a screen this size as touch would be harder for me to be accurate. Easy setup. Does require a micro sd card for storage. Nextbase recommends their sd cards (also available from bestbuy) which are supposed to be more durable in temp and shock resistance as well as loop recording but they also have other brands which are supposedly good for this type of application as well. Remember, it will get hot or cold in your car and the loop recording will put added stress on your card so ordinary cards may fail, Best Buy also sells a nice carrying case for this if you don't want to leave it in your car.

The Nextbase 320XR dashcam produces fantastic images from both the front and rear cameras. The videos captured during my drives so far have been clear and sharp, with distinguishable vehicles, license plates, and even some driver faces ahead and behind. This is particularly true during daylight hours, although night images are still very good, certainly sufficient to document a mishap on the road. Installation was pretty simple, the directions were easy to follow, and the cords (power to the front camera, data between the front and rear) were plenty long enough to set up in my medium-sized sedan. Routing the cable under my car’s molding was made easier by the little plastic tool provided in the box. The on-device controls are intuitive to use. There are physical buttons beside and beneath the screen, which make navigating the menus and prompts easier. The front and rear windshield mounts both use magnetic connectors, so the cameras themselves can be taken out of the vehicle without much fuss. The rear data cable has a disconnect a few inches from the camera to facilitate this capability. I will probably leave the cameras in the car all the time, but it would be very convenient to remove them if I end up parking somewhere where theft or extreme temperatures are a concern. One minor complaint I have is regarding how easy it is to move both cameras in their mounts. The front camera stays in place most of the time, but I do have to be careful to re-check the lens aim after removing or re-inserting the microSD card. The rear camera is a bit more trouble. The good news is that it doesn’t move around while driving, but I have thrown off the aim by bumping it slightly loading and unloading items from my hatchback. This may not be a problem for folks whose rear windshield is stationary and away from any movement. In my case, I will probably use some adhesive cord clips to help stabilize things. The other thing to note about the 320XR is that while the picture quality really is excellent, this model is light on extra bells and whistles. There’s no wireless connectivity, no support for GPS, no touch screen or voice prompts, etc. Overall, the 320XR produces great front and rear video while driving, so if that’s all you need (and really, that’s the core thing most people get a dash cam for, right), then this could be a great option for you.

There is a lot to love about this dash cam! In the box you have the front and rear dash cams, bases, adhesive, power cables, and installation tool along with standard paperwork and installation instructions. You will need to purchase an SD card. This dash cam system supports up to 128GB. Obviously the more storage you have, the more you can record so I recommend as much storage as you can afford - especially since this system can record in HD. You will also have to format the SD card but this is easy to do. Once you insert the card the camera automatically prompts you to format, which only took a few seconds. One SD card records both cameras. Installation is rather straightforward but can definitely take some time. Prior to adhering the cams to your windows, I highly suggest taking the time to place the cam in different positions to find the best view for your use. Trust me, once the base is adhered to the window it is a strong seal and not easily removed. But this is a huge positive, because the dash cams bases are secure. Not only are the bases secure, but the camera attachments to the base are equally strong. I have absolutely no concerns of the bases or cameras coming apart while on rocky or bumpy terrain. My installation was in a 2021 VW Tiguan R-Line Black and took approximately 45 minutes. Your installation time will vary based on experience and type of vehicle. The cables were easy to hide and tuck away in my vehicle, and the included cable tool helps in the more snug areas. While there is an internal battery, this dash cam system is powered by a cigarette plug. The internal battery is not meant or designed to power the unit while driving. The rear camera receives its power from the front camera, which is where the overall system power is supplied. Both cameras are compact, but provide an incredible field of view. Both are also easily adjustable. Picture quality on the front camera screen, which does allow for front / rear simultaneous viewing, is crystal clear - even at night. You do get some hazing around bright lights at night, but otherwise the quality is fantastic. The recorded video quality is stunning, full color HD, and clear. Very vibrant and crisp colors, no blurring or stuttering, and I've witnessed no dropped frames. The free downloadable software is excellent and easy to use. Videos can be saved for reference. You can record in 1, 2, or 3 minute intervals. You also have the option to record audio or not. There is no touch screen, but the buttons are easy to use on the camera itself. There is also a parking mode which allows video recording while the vehicle is parked and powered off. However your cigarette lighter must have power while off, so this may not work if your vehicle isn't equipped for this. The internal battery will provide enough time to perform the initial setup. I can't find any criticism for this dash cam. Installation, performance, security, picture / video / recording quality, ease of use - it's all incredible. I have no reservations about recommending this dash cam system to anyone.

I'd been thinking about adding a dashcam to my Prius for a few years now, but had been hesitating to pull the trigger largely due to concerns over the installation. I'd heard plenty of good things regarding Nextbase though, and decided this was as good a time as any to finally take the plunge. I can't say that the experience has been entirely perfect, but overall I'm pretty satisfied. First up, the camera itself. The image quality is pretty good for 1080P, though I'll admit I found its ability to resolve text at a distance to be somewhat hit or miss. I think it could probably do fine with a license plate in the event of a collision, but for anything much further out than that I think a lot will depend on the condition of the plate you're trying to see. Controls are basic and a bit awkward, but I was able to find pretty much everything I needed with only about ten minutes of tinkering. Since there's no bluetooth support you do have to use the buttons for essentially everything, but in theory you should only need to mess with it rarely and otherwise leave it to its own devices. The install process was... less ideal. I opted to hardwire the power into my fusebox, which is essential if you want the camera to monitor your car when parked, but I don't think it really added much by the way of difficulty compared to using the provided 12v hookup. A tool is provided to pry off body panels, however I found it to be of limited use as most came off much easier just by using my hands. And Despite my best efforts to hide all the wires, the barrel connector for the rear camera was a bit too long and bulky to cleanly feed through the hinge for the rear hatch and I had to route it along the outside, so there's a few inches of the wire left exposed. I think if I had to do it over again I'd seriously consider a professional installation, or possibly just trying to cut the cable and see if it was possible to splice it back together, but it still looks pretty good even with that one issue. All in all it took me about two hours to finish the project, which included me pulling apart the entire rear hatch twice because the rear camera cable came loose while I was reattaching body panels the first time. I'd say the best features here is arguably the fact that the whole system is highly modular. If I did want to swap this camera out for one with higher resolution, I wouldn't need to go through the trouble of redoing the wiring again. I could just pull off this one and snap the new one into the same mount, and hook up the same rear camera. That's a huge plus, in my opinion. Likewise it wouldn't be hard to move the whole thing around between multiple vehicles. They even include a spare mounting plate, which can also be handy if you accidentally pull off the 3M adhesive trying to adjust the wiring like I did and drop it on the garage floor. Overall though, I'm pretty happy with it. As a basic dashcam it does everything I need it to do.

PROS: * No apps to manage/setup * Small camera size * Good video quality * Simple menus CONS: * Cable management can be a pain == SETUP == Before you need to worry about how to manage the power cable and the power+data cable to the rear camera, Nextbase has a bright yellow card in the box that warns that you need to charge the main camera for at least 2 hours before installing it in your vehicle. There's a USB-A cable included in the box to charge it, so you can just use your phone charging block to easily charge the camera. After letting it charge for a few hours, you'll need to install a micro SD card. Nextbase recommends using one of their own branded cards, but I used a different brand with a low/high temperature rating. You'll just need to format the memory card, which can be done in the camera's menu (Nextbase also recommends reformatting the card once a month). Honestly, the most difficult part about the setup is the cable management, but this is going to vary based on your vehicle model. If you download the user manual from Nextbase's website, they do provide some examples of how to best route/hide the cables. If you don't want to deal with the hassle, you can always make an appointment with Best Buy to have them install the cameras for you (I wish I did). == DAILY USE == After installing the cameras, you'll need to decide your recording settings from the camera menu. I went with a simple setup of 2 minute recording clips, no audio recording, and to have the camera display turn off after 30 seconds once the car powers on. You can keep audio recording enabled and choose to record in 1, 2, and 3 minute clips (this is really just to avoid editing long footage later). What I love about this camera is that I don't need to interact with it once it's installed and my settings have been saved. I power on the car, the cameras automatically turn on and start recording, and that's it! As time goes on, if the memory card fills up, the camera will start recording over the oldest footage first. So, if I don't need to pull a few recordings off the card, I don't need to worry about data management. It really is a "set it and forget it" type of camera setup. == FOOTAGE RETRIEVAL == Since there's no app involved, the only way to access the videos is to remove the memory card from the camera (once it's powered off) and connect it to a computer. The files are all saved as MP4 format, so you don't need to worry about any compatibility issues, you can view the footage on a Windows, Mac, Linux, or probably even an Android device (I don't have one for testing, but the files are just MP4s, so it SHOULD work). I prefer this over an app and having the camera stream to my phone. I don't want to worry about storage or managing dozens of small video clips. I just want to be able to quickly and easily get a video if I need it in the event of a crash/accident, and not worry about needing editing software to pull 45 seconds of needed footage from a 2-3 hour clip. == BOTTOM LINE == If you want a simple dash cam, with a rear camera, and don't want to worry about managing an app or pairing it to your phone, the Nextbase 320XR is a solid option. I would just consider paying someone else to deal with the installation and cable management if you're not very patient.

    Dash Cam Basics

I know that some folks think that these little cameras are great investments in case of accidents or damage to your vehicle, and I can definitely see that benefit, but I thought this would be a great purchase to catch fun, beautiful, or interesting things in my commute. I spend about an hour a day driving back and forth from work, and there have been a numerous times that I have thought; “Wow, that was neat, I wish I had gotten a photo of that.” Well, in comes a nice little Dash Camera. Let’s start off with installation. I think that was my biggest hesitation when looking at getting one of these little guys. I can say as someone who is not well versed in doing installations in vehicles that this was relatively simple and straightforward. The Quick Guide does a decent job of walking you through the steps of setting this up and getting it installed. You find a nice mounting point for each camera, use the included mounting stands, and then run the wires by hiding them within the panels of the car. They provide a handy little pry tool to help snug the cable in behind the different panels along the route. The cables are sufficiently long enough to easily get from the front to the back glass of my Altima. Both mounts adhere to the glass using an adhesion pad, so glue. I live in South Texas so only time will tell if the glue will hold up in the summer heat, for now with temperatures being on the cooler side, I haven’t had any issues. Normally I use suction mounts with adhesion to mount things to the glass, and even then sometimes they fall off in the summer when I have to leave the car out in the sun all day. After everything is setup the menu and controls are easy to navigate. I tossed in a 64GB microSD card, and they recommend to use their own, but I would think any microSD would be sufficient as long as the capacity is large enough. I like that the image is clear during the day and at night. Not 4K or anything, but definitely clean enough to see details. I would say that the only thing that I was a little bummed about was that there is no way to pair this up to a smartphone to pull video off the camera. Instead you need to take out the microSD card and put it into your computer. I knew it didn’t have smartphone connectivity going into it, but now I kinda wish I had gone with one of their other models that do include that connectivity. I’ve been using this for a little less than a week, and while I haven’t come across anything yet that made me want to pull the video off the card, I know it will happen soon. Plus, you get that piece of mind in case you have an accident. This is a great intro dash cam for someone looking for a great, basic experience. Installation was not challenging, image quality is good, and so far the mounting kits are holding up in cold weather. If you think you will want to pull off video regularly to share on socials then maybe go for one of their models with smartphone connectivity. If you are looking for something that you might want to get video off occasionally or in case of accidents then this would be a good solution. All in all a easy recommendation to someone looking for a simple dash camera setup.

In full disclosure, I did have a bad rear camera on the initial unit sent out to me. Nextbase' support was really on top of things and sent me a replacement unit very quickly, which has now resolved my original bad rear camera issue (camera was simply not transmitting). All in all, the Nextbase 320 XR is a fairly decent dashboard camera. While I'm used to a higher-ended competitor's camera that has cellular connectivity, the Nextbase model is still nothing to sneeze at. It is capable of recording in 1080p HD from both cameras, and files are split up into up to 5-minute segments (this is modifiable) on an SD card. Also, some good news there -- I personally added a 256GB card (well above what Nextbase says can be used) and I've had zero problems in recording (make sure you get the same-spec'd SD card that can read/write at a faster rate). A curious thing happened at setup, however, which didn't impact anything except a "weirdness" factor. Since you initially must charge the device before use, the device would continuously -- and I mean for a good 15 - 20 minutes -- turn off and on, off and on, off an on. My wife even asked me what was going on, and I said that it was charging, but that it goes through this "on-off" cycle several times until it retains enough charge to stay on. Once charged for about an hour, I was able to connect it to the windshield mount with no issue. I haven't figured out if it has a "standby" mode for when your vehicle is turned off (the higher-ended dashcam has such a "sentry" mode), so the device will turn off within about 30 seconds after you turn your vehicle off. Also, be aware that the cabling to reach the rear camera window was sufficiently long enough to allow routing through the edges of flooring body panels at door thresholds to get to the back window in a Honda Civic. That's a pretty small car, so I'd definitely look up if your specific vehicle is longer and might need a different cord (I have no idea if Nextbase produces longer cables, because it appears to be proprietary to them). So far, this has been a good, decent dashcam that does continuously record while driving.

I’ve had a dash cam in my car for a couple of years now, and while I [thankfully] have never needed to rely on its footage, it is nice to know that it’s there. The one downside of my particular dashcam is the lack of a rear facing camera. Dashcam systems with rear-facing cameras can be pricey, moreso that just purchasing two dashcams and wiring them separately. And while that can save some money, there’s something to be said for a unified solution, from managing footage to not taking up too many power outlets in your car. Installing any wired components in your vehicle can be intimidating, but once you get over that hurdle it’s actually pretty easy—even with running a cable to your rear windshield. Install took me about an hour once I had all the components laid out and I understood how everything connected. It’s nice that the data and power to the rear camera is supported via a single USB-C cable that runs to the front camera. The front camera then connects to a power outlet in your dashboard or center console. The unit requires a U3 micro SD card, which is only annoying if you don’t happen to have one lying around. Cards not meeting the U3 minimum aren’t accepted by the camera at all. NextBase also has “special” branded cards that they sell; they say these are optimized and specifically designed for write/rewrite, but at four times the cost of a standard U3 micro SD card, I decided to stick with the non-branded solution. The camera body itself is connected to the mount via magnets, which is much nicer than the standard ball-style mounts I’ve worked with in the past. The screen on the camera is ONLY a screen—not a touch screen—and there are physical buttons surrounding the screen for menu navigation and function adjustments. I found the menu system to be not immediately intuitive, but after reading the directions I didn’t have any issues. The MyNextbase Player software for Mac or PC was fine—nothing all that great, but not terrible either. It provides functionality for importing, cropping and stitching videos from the camera’s memory card. It was a little clunky but didn’t look overly outdated. There are definitely additional features in other Nextbase products (like GPS tracking) that are visible in the software that you can’t take full advantage of with the 320XR. At $150 the 320XR is a decent solution, but to make the most of it I’d like to see either smartphone/app integration to add in GPS and speed tracking, or to get those capabilities built into the unit at that price. Either way, the 320XR does a fine job capturing video and audio with wide angle lenses and good quality (1080p @ 30FPS).

The NextBase 320XR dashcam camera set is a well-built, compact pair of cameras. A base front windshield unit which is slightly smaller and more compact than some of their other models and a separate ball like Rear Window camera. This duo of cameras comes in at a lower price point in comparison to other Nextbase models (I also have the 4k 522GW model). The main camera is not a touch screen, has lower recording resolution (HD 1080p @ 30 frames per second). Regardless, this setup has the advantage of having a rear camera, so you have a front and REAR view. I really like the rear-view mode, the recording quality is also HD. This camera dispenses with some of the more advanced connectivity features that are in other Nextbase models as it does not include Bluetooth, WiFi or GPS. Frankly 90% of the time I don’t use these features, removing the memory card when I need to download video, as some of the connectivity features of the more advanced cameras can be glitchy anyway. This model also does not include the suction cup mount, only adhering to your windshield using a plate with adhesive (I don’t see why you couldn’t purchase a suction cup mount separately). Frankly I changed to using the adhesive plate for mounting my 522GW model as in high interior temperature, parked car scenarios, I would find the camera had fallen off the surface of the windshield when using the suction cup. The bracket separates from the body of the camera (the power plugs into the bracket) and kinda snaps in place with the help of a magnet if you need to remove the camera for safe keeping (front camera only). As with other models the video recorded is crystal clear from both the front and rear cameras. Nextbase continues to produce quality dashcams and this carries on in that tradition. I installed this unit in my wife’s car and it really does deliver. Wise move to add the rear facing camera as it gives you recorded visibility into tailgaters and rear end collisions. The Intelligent Parking mode also records a video clip if your vehicle is bumped while you are away (sourced from both cameras), helpful in determining the culprit in parking lot mishaps. Removing some of the more advanced features to bring this duo of cameras in at a reasonable and more competitive prices point was a wise move. Pros: - Clear 1080p video from front and rear cameras - Well built - Intelligent Parking mode - Reasonable price Cons: - None, as long as you are not looking for 4k video, high frame rates, touch screen or advanced connectivity features.
