Dashcam without wifi
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. Was told by salesman that dashcam has a wifi and and app. Only to find out after the installation that no wifi and obviously no app. Shame, for this price point. So, in order to see the recording, the choices are to use card reader or see it on the camera screen. Like in stone age. Installer nrvef mentioned about lack of wifi as well. The choice of dashcams in the stiore is pretty poor. Next time, I will look elsewhere.

Good video quality but frequently locks up
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. While this camera has some nice features and has excellent 4K video quality, there are enough bugs or problems with the device that should make you think about another camera. Pros: - Excellent video quality at 4K 30fps. - Good image stability. - Relatively small size, though the stick-out lens in the front pushes it out further than other cameras. - Driver-facing screen for quick viewing. - Includes “What 3 Words” for ease of location. Cons: - As apparently widely reported, the camera has a tendency to lock-up & stop recording, with the only way to get it back is a reboot with the reset button on the bottom. - Cannot use the screen on the camera to review videos. - It is impossible to locate the videos that you choose to download from the app to your phone. - Tech support is completely absent and 100% unresponsive. - Polarization filter doesn’t work well with tinted windows. - Connector uses a mini-USB. Yes, mini-USB. The Nextbase 622GW is the company’s next version of their dash cams, which apparently are more widely known in the UK since the company is UK-based. The device is relatively small but does have a lens that protrudes from the front of the device to allow for better quality, which keeps this from being mounted close to the window. The device comes with both a 3M stick-on adhesive mount and suction cup mount to give you flexibility in deciding how & where to mount it. The power cord is long and designed to be routed above your headliner toward the power outlet, though the cord features one of those clamp-on interference magnets that will end up sticking out (too large to route) and an oddly elongated power plug which again will make this stick out when plugged in. The GPS is built into the mount, so you’re required to use one of the mounts included with the device (not that you wouldn’t). Video quality is excellent, and you can choose from several different resolutions depending on how much video you want to retain (the card will overwrite as it reaches its limit). Obviously, higher resolution will overwrite more often. Recording is done in 1, 2, or 3-minute blocks, with each period of time breaking video into separate MP4 files. The problem is that the MP4s can’t be viewed in the app on an Android, coming up with a message that the “file format cannot be played. You can download it, but then it’s impossible to locate on your phone, as it puts it somewhere not accessible to the file manager on the Android. I found myself having to dismount the microSD card & downloading the files from the card on my computer. An absolute pain. The camera will display your drive on the screen on the back of the device, but I found that distracting. Luckily you can change the screen to a speedometer or just blank screen when moving, which I highly suggest. The screen also has a button for the “What 3 Words” app, which blocks out every inch of the world into 3’x3’ squares which are given a 3-word name. This helps rescuers or friends find you easily. The device also includes automatic “SOS” detection where it can automatically call 911 for you if it detects a collision. I did turn this off, afraid that the device would fall down with the suction cup and it show as a collision & make a call. Now for the cons. I feel like you can judge a company by the level of support they provide. Their technical support is 100% absent. If you call the tech support line, you get an extremely abrupt message that their offices are closed & it hangs up on you. If you e-mail support, they just don’t reply. You’ll get a ticket number from their ZenDesk helpdesk software, and that will be the last you hear from them. At the time of typing this, I have had a support ticket in for 6 days with ZERO response, even when I replied with, “Hello?”. If your concern isn’t covered in their online FAQs, you are basically on your own. Absolutely abhorrent support which is unacceptable. Several others have posted reviews about the device freezing up when in use (which I found by doing a Google search for “Nextbase 622 locking up”, which leads to Best Buy reviews interestingly enough). In the matter of 24 hours of unboxing & use, the device locked up 3x on me, and each time I had to hit the reset button on the bottom to unfreeze it. Nextbase has replied on some of the reviews telling them that they were likely using “the wrong SD card”, with Nextbase claiming the only card that will work is their name brand card (which is about 4x more expensive that similar “high endurance” SD cards for some reason), but I’m using the name brand card and it’s still locking up. I don’t know if it’s a firmware issue or a hardware issue, but a brand new device 1 day out of the box should not be having this problem. And again, I’m not the only one. The lens includes a rotating lens that is a circular polarizing filter, designed to cut down on glare from the dash. However, if you have tinted windows, it causes an effect with the lens that creates a rainbow on the videos. You can rotate the filter and all it does is move the rainbow to a different position on the video. It was a nice thought, but doesn’t look like they tested this against polarized or tinted windows. And come on… A mini-USB connector? Seriously, those stopped being used around the time Blackberry devices fell out of appeal. As the world pushes companies to move from micro-USB to universal USB-C, Nextbase apparently decided to step back to the 2000s and use a cord that likely no one even has anymore, and will be even more difficult to find if needed to replace. Bottom line is that this is a good camera with good recording quality. But the locking up issue with the device, combined with an inability to easily view the videos when you need to (without pulling the card & using a computer), along with their “missing in action” tech support staff forces me to recommend against this device.

Great 4k dash cam
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I got this dash cam as an upgrade to my Nextbase 422GW. I put that one in my wife's car. Overall, it's basically the same, but with a few more features and better resolution. The 422GW had a suction cup mount, and the 622Gw has an adhesive mount. I prefer the suction cup mount for being able to easily move the dash cam or remove it to clean the windshield. However, I don't miss that in the summer time (in Georgia) the heat causing it to lose suction and fall. Often times I would come out to my car after work to find the dash cam hanging by the power cord. This isn't an issue with the adhesive mount. I charged it for a few hours before installation as the directions suggest. I didn't do this with my 422GW and it never stays charged, even after a 45-minute drive to work. Installation is easy, the most time consuming part is hiding the power cable. I used the power port in my center console and ran the cable down by the passenger seat, behind the glove box and up behind the A-pillar rubber weather stripping and then tucked the excess in the headliner. I then did the firmware upgrade. You have the option to have files automatically emailed to someone if you want. I keep this feature disabled as I record a lot of incidents per week and my wife would freak out if she saw every time that I was almost hit. Also, even with the setting at the lowest, sometimes just hitting a bump or taking a corner too sharp will save a file. You also have the option of what to record in (4k 30 fps, 1440p 120 fps, etc.). I have mine set to 4k, just for the overall image clarity. It seems to work just fine. The image quality is great and I can see details clearly. Downloading videos seems to be a lot faster than my previous 422GW as well. Some other features are Alexa compatibility, what3words and parking mode. I don't use the Alexa feature, so I can't speak to how well it works. Parking mode allows the dash cam to capture footage even with the vehicle parked and not running. If the vehicle is hit/bumped/jolted the dash cam will capture the incident so you can review it later. I had never heard of what3words before I got this dash cam. They have taken the entire world and broken it down into 3 meter squares. Each square has three words assigned to it. It sounds pointless, but actually makes a lot of sense. Let's say you're in a huge parking lot. If you needed emergency services, it would be easier for them to find you within a 3 square meter "box" than searching the entire parking lot. You would tell 911 that your what3words location is "quest.display.deform". That shows them a specific spot in the parking lot of the Hard Rock stadium in Miami. I haven't found anything negative with it yet. If you're looking for a great dash cam with high resolution and easy to use features, then you can't go wrong with the Nextbase 622GW. It is a little pricey, but as the saying goes, you get what you pay for. My first dash cam was a $20.00 one that I saw an online ad for. It worked, but the video quality wasn't even as good as a 1990s camcorder. Overall, I definitely recommend it. If you are ever in an accident, it's cheap insurance. The camera doesn't lie.

Fantastic Dash Cam
||Posted . Owned for 2 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is an excellent Dash Camera, video quality is second to none. I did a lot of research before deciding on the 622GW. I read some negative reviews about phone not connecting and camera locking up, seems like most of those comments came from have the wrong Micro SD card in there. I have not experienced any problems at all, and the video is stunning and it has features no other dash cam has. I am just a regular purchaser, nothing was given for this review, I just appreciate when things do what they are advertised to do, and do it well.

Won’t update
||Posted . Owned for 1.5 years when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This dash cam I purchased will not update new firmware. I spent hours on phone and email exchanges to no avail. I asked for a replacement cam but was informed it was out of warranty. If you do purchase this dash cam make sure everything is working perfectly before warranty is over. Updating firmware on such a device should be an easy task.

Excelent Quality, Adhesive not so much...
||Posted . Owned for 2 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I bought this dash cam after looking at great reviews online. The camera and the app worked great for me... Only complaint is that living in the Arizona heat, the heat made it to were the adhesive melted and I have not put my camera back in my car.

Garbage, freezes constantly
||Posted . Owned for 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Bought this for my ford mustang. I also purchased the 128gb Nextbase SD card, and the hardwire kit (Installed by Best Buy). Camera randomly freezes on the speedometer screensaver and won’t respond, requiring a hard reset. The hardwire kit is not compatible w/14V batteries (Will drain below 11.5V, preventing car from starting). Returning to store ASAP to exchange for a quality camera.

Posted .Hello,
Freezing is symptomatic of a failing SD card. If the card is non-compatible or damaged, the card could corrupt which would cause a failure of data writing.
Symptoms of SD card failure are: an audible 'alarm' tone, non-functional buttons, freezing, corrupted files on playback, image missing from files, lack of file recording etc.
I'd recommend a full computer format of your SD card and checking that your card is a compatible SD card.
I'd recommend a Dash Cam compatible 8GB -128GB U3 Micro SD card, specifically designed for Dash Cam or CCTV usage. Using a dash cam compatible SD card instead should then allow your Dash Cam to function as designed. The card needs to have a minimum continuous write speed of 48MB/s.
If you have any further issues, please contact us directly at support@nextbase.com, Live Chat or +1 800 2805 178 and we'll get you up and running successfully.

Couldn’t be happier!
||Posted . Owned for 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Far better than the previous dash cam I got 3 years ago. My old one kept dying on me and being unreliable and this one is responsive and has held its charge so far. The new functionality and high quality is a plus in my book! So far so good and I’d highly recommend it!

Not terrible, but not great.
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I found this dash cam does not perform well for the price range it is in. Overall video quality during the day at 4k 30fps is decent but doesn't seem like 30fps also at 4k you can only read street signs and license plates directly in front of you. Dropping the quality to 1440p 60fps playback becomes more smooth but most license plates become unreadable. At night, this camera is just above worthless even on well lit city streets. Needless to say I returned the dash cam and purchased a refurbished/discontinued Waylens camera that I know performs well.

Posted .Hello Tomas,
Thank you for your review, I'm very sorry to hear that you were having a problem with your 622GW. The Dashcam records both High resolution and Low resolution files simultaneously. This means that for every recorded time period, two files will be produced; one HF and one LF- High Resolution Front and Low Resolution Front. If you also have a Rear Camera attached, then four recordings will be made; HF, LF, HR, and LR: High Resolution Rear and Low Resolution Rear. The smaller file size of the low quality video means it is quicker to transfer and edit within the app. Please note: Recording both high and low resolution versions will take up more space on the memory card. If you turn off Dual Files, then only the High Resolution footage will record.
For any other users having a similar issue, I would recommend checking that you are viewing the high resolution footage and not the low. To best view the footage, I would recommend using the free MyNextbase Player app on a computer.
If you require any further assistance, please contact our Support Team at support@nextbase.com.
