    Great Camera, Frustrating Update.

I have had an earlier version (522) for several years. Aside from some software frustrations the camera has been great. I bought a sports car as a retirement splurge to myself a few months ago. Even though I have never had to use the cameras recordings as evidence in an accident, I feel safer with the camera recording. I was involved in the soft drink industry most of my working life and saw many instances of police at the scene of an accident wrongly declaring the vehicle belonging to the party most likely to have great insurance as the guilty party. The 622 GW is very similar in appearance to the 522 that I have had for a while. At first glance I was disappointed that the new version had a permanent adhesive mount instead of the suction cup mount that the previous mount has. It was nice to be able to relocate the camera periodically. The downside to the suction cup mount is that it let go and fell down periodically. The 622 has tons of features including image stabilization, extreme weather mode, super slow-motion mode, SOS emergency response capability, Alexa, up to 4k recording, GPS and three words capability. While all of the features are nice, my major concern is having a great recording in case of an accident. Since my main concern is having recordings, I haven't explored many of the features yet. Like so many other things, I wish I could rate the hardware and software separately. The camera performs flawlessly. I have gotten a great 4k picture in all circumstances I have been in, rain, sunshine, darkness, rain, fog and sleet. I forgot to try the severe weather function in the rain and fog. I really like the time lapse setting; it is especially fun to use in a scenic area. I give the hardware 5 stars. The camera is all it should be and performs flawlessly. Then there is the software. When setting up the camera I was almost immediately informed that a firmware update was required. I followed the instructions only to receive an error message. I tried again several times and then followed the alternative method instructions. I found a couple of variations on the instructions, and all were met with failure. I went around and around trying to install the update, enough to exhaust the battery and still couldn't make it work. This was send it back if not throw it against the wall frustrating. After many tries, I gave up. When I turned the camera on the next day it showed that the firmware had been installed. I'm not sure what happened. If I could rate that part of the software separately, I would give it a 0. The computer app seems to work just fine. For me, the camera is the main thing, and this is a great camera, so I only deduct 1 star for the initial software/firmware setup.

      Hello,
Thank you for taking the time to write your review, it's great to hear that you love your 622GW. I am sorry to hear that you've had some issues updating the firmware on your 622GW. It sounds like the firmware update had worked, but the app had not detected the newest version loaded. If this ever happens again, the best way forward is to restart both the phone and the dashcam. It will then detect the firmware version correctly and you can continue.
The 522GW mount system and the 622GW mounting systems are the same and can be used with each other. If you would like to use the suction mount instead, this can be removed from the 522GW mount and put onto the 622GW. We also offer the suction cup as a spare part if you need an extra one.
If there's anything else that we can do to help, please don't hesitate to get in contact on +1 800 2805 178.

The app is completely terrible. It takes forever to sync up with the phone most of the time. The whole unit will freeze up at least every couple of days. A lot of times you want even notice it right away. Try a different brand.

      Hello,

I am very sorry to hear that you had problems with your 622GW. Freezing is symptomatic of an SD card problem. I'd recommend a Dash Cam compatible 8GB -128GB U3 Micro SD card, specifically designed for Dash Cam or CCTV usage. Using a dash cam compatible SD card instead should then allow your Dash Cam to function as designed. The card needs to have a minimum continuous write speed of 48MB/s.

For guaranteed functionality and warranty of the SD card itself, we always suggest using a Nextbase Micro SD card within a Nextbase Dashcam.

If you need any further help, please contact support@nextbase.com.

i am very disappoint in this camera. I purchase this camera in Sept of 22 and i had to reset a couple, no big deal , I had to replace the tape 2 times because it won't stick to the windshield, my major problem is for 3 months it did not record anything on the card it shows on the screens it is but it wasn't and know i don't have the proof I needed for the bogus ticket i received. Also i never could get the app to work

Hi Patrick, I am sorry to hear you are disappointed. What SD card are you using? It sounds like the SD card had not been reformatted in quite some time if you don't have any recordings for 3 months. The SD card does need to be reformatted frequently, the more you drive, the more often it needs to be reformatted. This will ensure you don't miss a recording and that the SD card will run optimally and for a longer period of time. As for the adhesive failing, please reach out to our support team to redeem a warranty 3M Sticky Pad. You can reach us at nasupport@nextbase.com. Let us know if you have any other questions or issues, we are happy to help!

      Hello,

I am sorry to hear that your 622GW is freezing. Freezing is usually symptomatic of an SD card failure or use of a non-compatible SD card.
For a 622GW we would recommend a Dash Cam compatible 32GB -128GB U3 Micro SD card, specifically designed for Dash Cam or CCTV usage. Using a dash cam compatible SD card instead should then allow your Dash Cam to function as designed. The card needs to have a minimum continuous write speed of 48MB/s.

For guaranteed functionality and warranty of the SD card itself, we always recommend using a Nextbase SD card within a Nextbase Dashcam.

If you would like any further help with the freezing problem, or if you are having an issue with multiple SD cards, please contact our Support Team at support@nextbase.com or call +1 800 2805 178.

In a world where our iPhones can shoot 4K video, our televisions can play 4K content, having a dash cam that only records in 1080p seems antiquated. In the past few years, I have had a 720p dash cam and a 1080p dash cam. Not that I ever needed to see any particular details in the video but if something happened, it would be nice to know that I could blow up the video and see the details clearly. That's why this Nextbase 622GW dash cam is so good. It shoots a very clear 4K video that could be used as evidence in the event of an accident. Also, with my previous dash cams, I would have to eject the Micro SD card in order to put it into my computer. Have you ever tried to eject a Micro SD card from a dash cam attached to the windshield? The card is so small and is spring loaded so inevitably it will pop out and fall on the floor. With this dash cam, you can access all the files on the camera using the My Nextbase app on your phone. Each clip is saved as a separate file with the date and time on the bottom of each clip so you can find the exact moment you need and take a screenshot with the touch of a button and share it to the MyNextbase Cloud or to any device or person using your standard share screen. Each clip can be locked so you can't accidentally delete it or as the SD card fills up it will delete old files but not the locked ones. The 622GW can also be controlled by voice using the Alexa App but you have to install the Alexa skill for that first. The app will walk you through setting up the dash cam and provide you with all the help you need. There are additional features that the app will provide for the cam such as Emergency SOS and Incident Aware that will upload the video to someone or your insurance company. There is a Nextbase Drivers Club that you can sign up for to receive product news and software updates and special offers as well. The dash cam uses GPS and gives you the coordinates using What3Words which is a great concept for locating your exact location within a 10 square foot area. They have mapped the entire world into 10 foot squares and gave every square 3 words unique to that square (like hat, river, boat) that will pinpoint you in the event you need assistance and there are no streets or landmarks to tell someone where you are at and using the What3Words app and inputting those 3 words, it will show your location on their map. It's a great concept that I'm glad someone finally implemented into a dash cam. The cam itself is very well made. It's made of metal as compared to other dash cams that are made of cheap plastic. The dash cam mounts to your windshield using a 3M sticker which you know will never fall off even on a hot day. I did have one problem but solved it by Googling the issue. When I connected the dash cam to my iPhone and clicked on Live View, all I got was a black screen. Before searching for a solution, I tried deleting and re-installing the app, checking all the settings, rebooting my iPhone and still I got a black screen. The solution that I found was to turn on Airplane mode on the iPhone and then the video appeared on the screen. I'm sure this is an issue that will be resolved with a future firmware update but for now, I will have to use the Control Center to turn on Airplane mode. All in all I am very pleased at the quality of the camera and the video it produces. Like a home generator, you like to know you have it in the event of an emergency but hope you will never really need it.

I had own the previous 1080p version of this camera, and when I saw the new 4K version came out, I just had to get it! Not that there was anything wrong with my old camera, I had always loved it, but the ability to record in 4K made me want to upgrade. These cameras are backed to the brim with features. They have GPS so they can always track your exact location and speed. They have Amazon Alexa built right into the camera, and they also have the SOS feature that will get help for you if you were involved in a accident and were unresponsive and couldn't call for help on your own. Another thing i love about this camera is that even when your car is parked, it can detect if someone bumps into your car and will automatically turn on and start recording so you might be able to catch that small hit and run in the parking lot! The video quality on my old camera was great, the new 4K version is amazing! It makes it so much easier to pick out plate numbers and road signs and things like that. It also looks like they improved the quality of vides at night as well. They are not as dark and hard to see as they were with the previous model. I also read in the manual that there is a special setting for fog that improves the video quality on really foggy days, although I have yet to get a chance to test that. I have owned a few different brands of dash cams in the past and this one has blown every other brand out of the water by a landslide! They think of everything in the functionality and the design to make it easier for the end user. Right down to the magnetic mount so you can easily pop your camera out and take it with you without having to fumble around with any wires. You literally just grab it and pull it off the mount and stick it in your pocked. Then when you get back in the car, just pop it back on the mount and you are ready to go! I cant say enough good things about this brand of cameras, and especially this camera in general. If you are looking for a dash cam. This is the brand and this is the camera you want!

THE BREAKDOWN: The Nextbase 622GW 4K Dash cam is top end dash cam packed with features. The color is an upgrade from the normal black to a silverish grey. On the back you see a large 3-inch touchscreen. There is still some space from the outside of the screen to the edge of the device. I think they should take advantage of that real estate and make the screen reach out to the edges. This camera is packed with features and at the top of that list is the 4K video resolution, image stabilization to reduce picture vibration from the bumps of the road or shaky vehicles. There is also a feature called what3words tracking to easily pinpoint your location to within 3 meters. Another handy feature is the adjustable polarizing filter that minimizes reflections for that extra clarity. Some of the other features include Alexa voice control, super slow motion, enhanced night vision and they even have an extreme weather mode to help get images in thick fog or heavy rain. In parking mode, it automatically senses bumps to initiate recording. This camera also comes with 3 months of free Emergency SOS service that will contact emergency services if the need arises. Before you use this camera, you will need to set your language and region settings. There is solid mount that attaches to your windshield and included a port for the mini-USB cable. What is nice about this is you do not have to unplug the camera to remove it, you simply just remove the camera. Once you get the mount affixed on the windshield all you need to do is mount the camera using the magnetic arm. The Nextbase software is a little clunky. The interface is okay but it does take time for the video thumbnails to load and even longer for the videos to buffer. Each video is has a map, speed, GPS coordinates and direction of travel. The video recording is excellent. You get that crisp 4k video with the image stabilization to help smooth out those bumps on the road. I also feel the night video with the enhanced night mode is excellent as well. PRO’s: -4K camera -Enhanced night mode -3-Inch touchscreen CON’s: -Slow and clunky app -Price tag SUMMARY: Overall, this product worked as intended, and I would recommend this to a friend if they were in the market for device like this.
