Heat melts the mount off the windshield
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. In order for this camera to have any functioning value, it needs to stay mounted and in place. Nextbase's use of a 3M sticky tab to hold the camera base to the windshield is a poor design because it melts off from the heat of the sun on the windshield. I've had this for 3 years now and have replaced the sticky tab multiple times (once from Nextbase, who gave me a hard time about honoring the warranty, so I bought a pack of the sticky tabs and replace them every few months when the camera falls off the windshield.) It's so annoying to have paid for a premium device only to have it not stay mounted, and thus fail to capture a collision (my vehicle was parked, the sticky tab released the camera from the windshield, my vehicle was hit, the camera didn't record the incident). I would not purchase this again.

Posted .Hello,
Thank you for your review.
I am sorry you had this experience. The 3M pads are tested at high temperatures to ensure they last and keep the Dash Cam in place. It is essential to follow a few steps when attaching the mount to the windshield. However, in some areas, constant exposure to heat and direct sunlight can shorten durability. We can offer an alternative for this in such cases, you can replace the pad with a suction cup.

Unreliable. Avoid.
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The Nextbase 622GW will, apparently randomly, stop recording for a minute or two out of every ten. On its first long drive it failed completely after about an hour. The timestamp is correct only about half the time, otherwise defaulting to January 2020. All this is despite my updating its firmware to the latest version and using the specified U3-class SD cards that have flawlessly recorded 4K video in my other devices. It runs suspiciously hot to the touch, as others have mentioned. This camera is larded with features no one needs (WhatThreeWords) but lacks the one essential: reliability. Stay away.

Posted .Hello,
The symptoms you are describing are those of an SD card failure.
SD cards only have limited lifespans. In our manuals we recommend formatting every 2-3 weeks to prolong the life of the card. Without this regular formatting, or if the card is non-compatible or damaged, the card could corrupt which would cause a failure of data writing.
Symptoms of SD card failure are: an audible 'alarm' tone, non-functional buttons, freezing, corrupted files on playback, excess heat, image missing from files, lack of file recording etc.
I'd recommend a replacement Dash Cam compatible 8GB -128GB U3 Micro SD card, specifically designed for Dash Cam or CCTV usage. Using a dash cam compatible SD card instead should then allow your Dash Cam to function as designed. The card needs to have a minimum continuous write speed of 48MB/s.
For guaranteed functionality and warranty of the SD card, we always suggest a Nextbase Micro SD card in a Nextbase dash cam. Using a compatible SD card which functions above the minimum requirements will allow the camera to function correctly.

Run away from this one
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. After having several Wheel Whiteness cameras that only lasted about two years each I decided to buy a more expensive dash camera in hopes of having one that would last for awhile. The Nextbase G622 is not that camera. Only having this camera for less than two months I have had it freeze up so many times that I have lost count. I have done everything Nextbase suggest like buying their expensive SD card and performing repeated formatting like it says but this has done nothing to stop it from freezing up. This camera cannot be trusted to be on and filming when you need it. When it freezes up the only thing that will work is to either to hit the reset or to completely unplug it until the battery runs out if the reset fails to work. This was too much money to spend on a camera that does not work right. I thought I had done enough research on this camera before I bought but I was unaware of the freezing up problem. This problem can easily be looked up by a Google search on The Nextbase G622 freeing up. If I would of known this I would not of purchased at all.

Possible Car Fire Hazard
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Bought your highly recommended Nextbase 622GW dash cam. Gets very hot (barely touchable) after a few minutes, 76 degrees F weather outside, air con inside. Reassured by Nextbase support that’s normal. But now it wouldn’t start automatically ( hardwired) only manually turns on after parking when too hot. Afraid it can catch fire. So I bought a 422GW same issue . Not normal (as support declares) that I can’t touch it when it gets very hot. I contacted an attorney who is looking into possibly the product has fire danger liability. Garbage can is where it belongs after doing everything support asked me to do i.e. changing micro disk , reformatting regularly, check wiring by Best Buy in Crystal Lake IL USA( was done correctly) etc.

Avoid at all costs
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I bought this camera along with the rear facing unit direct from Nextbase when it was introduced. The footage was clear and the app worked well until the one time that I needed it. I was rear ended at a light and the camera recorded none of it. An hour of blank time in between the other videos. For the money this costs, don't waste your time

Posted .Hi Rich, I am sorry to hear this and sorry to hear you were in an accident. May I ask what brand of SD card are you using? How often do you reformat the SD card? This needs to be done regularly to keep the SD card healthy and running optimally. In addition, we recommend using a Nextbase branded SD card as they have been specifically designed to cope with the wear and tear dash cams put on SD cards. Using a non-Nextbase branded SD card can lead to skipped videos and other issues.

Not worth it at all
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I recommend you really look into the 622gw functionality before purchasing. The company tries to boast about its certain features but a lot of them have a catch to it, I will list the issues I had. The emergency SOS feature comes 1 year free then requires a $4 monthly subscription. This information is no where to be found except in the fine details of the nextbase website. The functionality of the dash cam is very glitchy. You turn on screen saver but sometimes the screen would annoyingly turn on during driving. You lower g-sensor to low but turns on even when a car just drives by. The parking mode turns on only AFTER it notices an impact. Even with that, it takes about 7 seconds to turn on and start recording. Although it is 4k the picture quality is still not as good as other competitors such as thinkware and viofo.

Posted .Hello Samin,
Thank you for taking the time to write your review. I am very sorry to hear that you had some issues with your 622GW.
The ESOS feature is a subscription service after the free trial period (12 months). This can be enabled via the MyNextbase Connect mobile app.
Regarding the Screen Saver, the screen should stay off after 30 seconds of use. Please ensure you're using a suitable SD card within the camera, we suggest a Nextbase SD card.

What works for you screwed me over!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. We bought this dash cam to assist us in increasingly likely event of an accident. We had the front and rear cam installed by Best Buy and told them I just want it to be recording. No gimmicks with Alexa or apps. Just record video in the best possible way with the camera somewhat hidden. They obliged. Today the day came when I was cut off by a run away drunk who slammed me hard. Ha! I have a dash cam jerk! Would have been easy to catch their license plate as they stopped briefly right in front of me before flooring it and taking off. Seems straight forward as can be. Came home after a long ordeal and popped the little memory card in my computer only to find out it has not recorded one video in nearly four months! It has video from December that is useless to us. Cops don't believe my story of a non working dash cam and are now blaming me! I am beyond mad. I am furious!

Posted .Hello Jand,
Thank you for taking the time to write your review, I am very sorry to hear that you've had an SD card failure. This can happen if the SD card is not formatted regularly, or if the card is not compatible.
Regarding the recording lengths, the camera will record continuously in small segments (1,2, or 3 minutes). It will record these segments consecutively until the SD card is full. Then the oldest piece of footage will be deleted and the newest will be saved in it's place. This will continue looping and is called Continuous Overwriting. The Dash Cam does this automatically to allow for more footage to be recorded and the old, unnecessary footage to be deleted without manual intervention.
However Protected Files are not overwritten in the same way as normal files. If you do not format regularly, these files can build up and reduce the capacity of storage available for normal footage. It is essential to format every two weeks to delete any protected files and clear the card ready for continued usage.
Here's how to format:
a) Turn on the Dash Cam
b) Stop it recording
c) Open Settings
d) Go into Setup
e) Click 'Format'
f) Follow the instructions.
Please be aware that formatting the SD card will delete all the data on the card, so if you wish to keep any footage, please copy this across to a computer before you start the formatting process. It's crucial to format the SD card every two weeks to avoid any further SD card failures.
I'd also recommend checking that the SD card that you are using is fully compatible with your 622GW.

Junk, Just Simply JUNK
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Oh where to begin. Nearly every video clip automatically self-locks, and this happens with G-Sensor at Medium, Low, and even disabled. You cannot plug the unit in to a wall outlet without it automatically going into record mode. While accessing from the iPhone app (which also is laggy junk) the unit automatically powers itself off after a short timeout period, even though you're currently interacting with it! Clip selection in the app is clunky for manually unlocking all the locked clips and/or deleting old clips (which my unit fails to do). I'm hardwired to the car so the unit should always be fully charged, but was told by Nextbase support that it should be removed from the car and plugged into a wall outlet each month "for recharging". Huh??? (I thought that's why I bought the hardwired kit?!?) I absolute regret buying what I was led to believe being the best dash cam in the store. The only thing sucking worse than this unit is Idaho's road quality (and drivers).

Posted .All of our cameras are tested between -4F and 122F, under the mount is a heat sync which is designed to draw heat from the device. Although most of the country is currently in an unprecedented heatwave so if the car temperature exceeds this you could potentially experience issues. During this time, we recommend removing the Dash Cam and placing in the glove compartment when the Dash Cam is not in use to prevent it being unnecessarily heated on the windscreen. The 622GW comes with a polarizing filter built in and also comes with the GPS enabled mount so everything you need comes in the box. Should you choose to power your camera via hardwire or add a rear camera module, those would need to be purchased individually. Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Tried to ignore the bad reviews and thinking people just had a bad device. Wrong choice. When this device worked it was decent but not even a month later after purchasing it, it stopped working all together. Device wouldnt even power on. I always take it off the windshield and put it in a pouch to keep it out of the sun’s intense heat. This device still ended up dead. Replacement device only has warranty time left over from your original purchase date. You’re SOL if you needed a replacement towards the end of your warranty and ended up with another lemon. Beware.
