Updating this camera is a pain, the instructions on doing so is basically non existent. If your not at all computer savvy then you will have a hard time updating. Setting up wasn't to bad but after a 2 wk. use I ended up taking back and will be looking for another brand of dash cam. Here's hoping that I'm not in the need of video evidence until then lol..

I purchased the front and rear camera setup for a little over $600. All the reviews said this was one of the better camera's on the market. After about 6 months of owning the setup, which was installed by Best Buy's Geek Squad, the rear camera integration started to fail. The rear camera would start to show static, or nothing at all. After months of working with Nextbase, they replaced the rear camera, which did not solve the issue. Months later they replaced the front camera. Both replacements were refurbished devices, yet the problem persists. At this point, I am ready to rip out this product and find a better replacement. I would not recommend anyone throw away their money on this Nextbase 622GW camera setup.

This camera yields excellent video quality under day light conditions. Haven't had an opportunity to test the video quality under night time/low light conditions. There's a what appears to be a noise suppression core that the power cable is threaded through. This extra weight causes the power cord to pull out of the head liner occasionally. Have to figure out a way of securing it. Am using a non Nextbase SD card and it seems to be working fine so far although Nextbase support advised me that only their SD cards meet the full specifications.

Bought the 622GW a little over a year ago. In the last couple of weeks it has started locking up or the screen would just go black with a frame where the rear camera showed. I was told by support the SD card was faulty. I bought a memory card that met or exceeded their specifications and swapped it out. Lockup problem seems to have settled down but now the camera restarts at random times and the rear camera doesnt work at all. Hate to say it, but what started out great has gone sour. Time to cut my losses and buy another brand. If you can have success with this camera, count yourself lucky. But, if youre onnthe fence, skip this and buy something else. It just isnt reliable.

This camera has a strong magnet on the front side that also conducts electricity, allowing the power cable to be attached to the mount instead of the camera (Easier to hide the power cable), and hold the camera to the silicone mount even if the vehicle takes a hard hit. Because of this, that magnet becomes very hot (enough to burn you) and will heat up the camera to where the CPU freezes to protect itself. The screen freezes and all recordings show the frozen screen. There is no warning when this happens, and if the screen is unresponsive, the only option is to unplug the camera and let it run out of power. I purchased and used a dash cameras, and used footage from one to hire lawyers, have the insurance companies side with me, and reach a settlement with the other driver's insurance company over diminished value, medical claims and vehicle damage. When it works, the 4k definition will pickup license plates and identifying markings (at close range) on vehicles, and can identify people. This camera is not normally on display in Best Buy. Usually the 522s and below are on display, and this is in storage. You must ask a store employee to bring it out if you want to buy it. Note this camera will only work with any MicroSD card with the U3 symbol. Be careful and look for the little 3 inside the U when choosing a card. Buy the largest capacity card you can afford; 4k videos take up a massive amount of space at 30fps. This camera is one of those ideas that is good on paper, but performs poorly in reality. If you can find a way to keep it cool, it should work fine, but I drive in a desert, and it freezes even with the AC on max cooling. Buy a different brand that doesn't overheat. Be aware Best Buy has a 15-day return policy (Extended to sometime late January for cams bought during the holiday season, check the website). Get your money back and buy a camera that gets the job done.

      Hello,

Freezing is symptomatic of an SD card issue. SD cards only have limited lifespans. In our manuals we recommend formatting every 2-3 weeks to prolong the life of the card. Without this regular formatting, or if the card is non-compatible or damaged, the card could corrupt which would cause a failure of data writing.
Symptoms of SD card failure are: an audible 'alarm' tone, non-functional buttons, freezing, corrupted files on playback, image missing from files, lack of file recording etc.

Please contact the Nextbase Technical Support Team at support@nextbase.com and they can go through the troubleshooting with you.

I like some of the software features this has, but there are some odd things too. Sometimes when my card gets full, it will stop recording totally. It is supposed to record over old footage, but it is not doing that even with the settings adjusted. I do not like how I cannot view my footage with the SD card on my laptop. It is all in mobile app only. The quality and connectivity is good though.

      Hello Parker,

Thank you for your detailed feedback! We’re really glad to hear that you’re happy with the quality and connectivity of the product. We also appreciate you sharing the challenges you're experiencing.

Regarding the SD card, we recommend replacing the one you’re currently using. When an SD card is not designed for a dashcam, it can cause issues, such as preventing proper overwritting. We suggest trying our Nextbase SD cards, which have been specifically designed for our cameras and offer optimal performance. Alternatively, you can use a different brand, but please ensure it's a U3 card made for dashcams to handle the continuous stress of loop recording.

Feel free to reach out if you'd like to discuss this further or need help resolving any of these issues—we're here to help and ensure you have the best experience!

Good, clear photos and app works well. My only complaint is that every few days the camera needs to be reset by pushing the reset button on the camera. Otherwise it will not work while driving. Alexa connectivity is a minor issue.

      Hello Greg,

Regarding the recording lengths, the camera will record continuously in small segments (1,2, or 3 minutes). It will record these segments consecutively until the SD card is full. Then the oldest piece of footage will be deleted and the newest will be saved in it's place. This will continue looping and is called Continuous Overwriting. The Dash Cam does this automatically to allow for more footage to be recorded and the old, unnecessary footage to be deleted without manual intervention.

However Protected Files are not overwritten in the same way as normal files. If you do not format regularly, these files can build up and reduce the capacity of storage available for normal footage. It is essential to format every two weeks to delete any protected files and clear the card ready for continued usage.

If your camera cannot continuously overwrite, then the SD card is likely to be non compatible. I'd recommend checking that your card is compatible, and contacting us if you need any further assistance. We're available at support@nextbase.com.

We got the dashcam to use on a trip to North Dakota. We installed the camera where the directions suggested and hid the power cable. There was a learning curve with the camera so I’m glad we installed it a few days before we headed out. I had 2 videos saved for bad situations from the trip and another 10-12 that we kept for scenery videos. The quality of the videos is unbelievable. I’ve shown the videos to lots of friends and everyone has been impressed with the quality and clarity. No regrets on this purchase!
