Great Accessory

Acquired the camera to support statements in the unfortunate event of an accident. Purchased the rearview camera as well. There is a general tendency for high-speed tailgaters on our freeways. The use of the dash camera gives driver a sense of support and verification of events in the event of a dispute.

Works fine as a back camera

Need to hide a long cable that runs from the rear window to the windshield and attaches to your main nextbase device. The camera easily rotates on its base and creates an angled view.

Quality Best Buy rear cam addition

Not the best…not the worst.

While the primary nextbase camera units have been upgraded repeatedly they do not seem to be in a big hurry to improve the rear cameras. It is nice that the newest unit is still compatible with the older components for those that have a previous generation, but if you are buying the 622 as your first in this modular line up this “barely hd” unit falls a little flat compared to its 4K capabilities.

Great rear camera when it worked

I had it installed as hard wired at Best Buy. About a year later they had a sale on the rear window camera so in August of 2020 I decided to get it to have what is behind me recorded. Had it installed by the tech at Best Buy and it worked great—for a little over a year. Then it started having issues and then it stopped working completely.

Camera freezes

I’m not sure if it’s a camera issue or a SD card issue. I’ve used 3 different cards and the camera seems to start freezing up after a couple of days of video. It’s the recommended UHD card and has plenty of memory left each time. The only way to resolve it is to reset the camera and stop the video from recording before 2 seconds or it will freeze. Then format the card from the camera and it will operate correctly for a couple of days. Same issue with any SD card btw. Im running Nextbase 622GW with the rear window cam. Less than 2 months old.

SD cards only have limited lifespans. In our manuals we recommend formatting every 2-3 weeks to prolong the life of the card. Without this regular formatting, or if the card is non-compatible or damaged, the card could corrupt which would cause a failure of data writing.
Symptoms of SD card failure are: an audible 'alarm' tone, non-functional buttons, freezing, corrupted files on playback, image missing from files, lack of file recording etc.
We only advise using a Nextbase SD card with the 622GW and a Rear Window Camera.
