Customers are delighted by the Genius Remote Extender for its easy setup process. Setting up the device is a breeze, as mentioned by many users. The remote control feature is also well-received, allowing users to control multiple devices with a single remote. However, some customers have concerns about the battery life, as the batteries tend to drain quickly. Additionally, there have been reports of compatibility issues, particularly with Sony surround sound systems.

This piece of equipment is worthless!Just got it a few weeks ago and just realized the product is from 2010. Can we say OUTDATED!!! What a piece! Don't waste your money. Pay professionals to install the real deal so you can at least change the channel without losing your mind

Attempted to set up using the simple directions. I was able to get it to operate the new DVD player a few times, but the system never worked consistently and eventually, wouldn't work at all. The design is from light weight plastic and looks cheap. I returned the item for a refund.

Set it up as expected. Pretty easy set up. Works sometimes but you can't rely on it so I have just abandoned it and am going to try another product.

Finicky to set up. Worked rather well for the month or two it worked. Batteries last a fraction of regular batteries. Then up and stopped working despite new regular battery, recharging etc. Box gets transmitter signal but does nothing apparently by IR eye despite starting over to find "sweet spot". Overpriced for longevity and reliability.

don't read the instructions. for AA batteries, put their battery in the transmitter sleeve then put both in the AA sleeve and put it in your remote in place of a AA battery you were using. plug saucer in. plug the eye into the saucer back, set the saucer in front of your cable box or whatever and put the eye in front of the cable box too. close the door and use it. NO LINE OF SITE NEEDED. someone wrote to pop the top of the saucer to cync the unit and we did but not sure it's necessary.

Could not snake a cable through the wall in the living room where I wanted my 48" LG Smart TV placed. This product worked through another room 50 feet away and with Comcast Cable Box. The only thing I had to buy in addition was an NextGen - Genius Remote Extender for the Comcast Cable TV Controller.i.e., a which I had a problem with, but once I figured out the ir extender must be fixed directly over the Comcast cable box ir sensor ( the glue did not hold, so I just taped it on. It works great. This is also 50 feet away in another room and now there is no need to target the box or tv to change channels. I am amazed at how it all works wirelessly.

We put our tv components in a room behind our tv to keep them out of sight. Our remote did not work until be bought this extender. The remote now works perfectly as if the components were right in front of me. The set-up turned out to be very easy but the directions were so bad that it took me 20 minutes to figure out that the extender device goes right next to the component. I first put the device under the tv but it did not work. Once I put it in the other room right next to the component then it worked perfectly. Set-up could have been 2 minutes if the would have written that in the directions.

Purchased in-store and then realized the manufacturer sells in online for $35. Works great, I have it on my back porch for the audio receiver which only has IR remote. I can use it all over the back yard to control sound now. At first it would not work beyond 8 feet and had could not be behind any object. The remote batteries are stacked end-to-end in the remote. I finally put the transmitter battery in first (towards the front of the remote) and the AA behind it and now it works from anywhere and with the receiver behind the TV.

An overwhelming majority of reviews have been positive but I can't get the remote extender to work with my TV + Time Warner Cisco HD DVR Box + Logitech Harmony 650 remote. Maybe it's user error. I first tried using the remote control that goes with my Time Warner cable box but it didn't work. I called Best Buy and they recommended I buy the Logitech Harmony 650 remote control which they said would work with the Nextgen Remote Extender. That doesn't work either. I am hoping to find a remote control that is compatible. I am holding out hope that this product indeed works but I need to know exactly which remote control will work with the remote extender. Suggestions welcome!

Does not work w/Logitech 650 remote!!!

This remote extender does NOT work with the Logitech 650 remote. The 3 different salespeople I talked to told me it would. Also, the product information says it has 3 eye IR emitter and in the box it is only a 1 eye IR emitter. I called the company and they said Best Buy requested packing that way. Who only has 1 thing to hook up to???? Best Buy needs to include 3-eye IR emitter as it is advertised that was and the instructions in the box show it that way.
The install was very easy after charging the batteries for 24 hours, but after hours of trying could not get it to work when the door to the cabinet was closed.

Works exactly as advertised. I have a TV mounted over the fireplace with my AV equipment hidden in a cabinet off to the side. The Genius lets me operate the TV with the IR remote and the hidden theater system via RF.
I had it up and running in seconds after a little battery charging time.
It's too early to comment on durability yet.
I just wish it were a little cheaper. It was a $100 add-on to a $30 universal remote, but it fit my needs exactly.

Didn't even know there was a product out there like this. It has been great! Pretty easy to set up and once it's up and running it works great! We're not only able to hide all our receivers and the tangled mess that comes along with it we can now control receivers from ANYWHERE in the house! Pleasantly surprised at the life of the battery! Definitely worth the money!

Solves the problem of blocked IR signals

I have three TVs running off of one new Comcast X1 box. Two of the TVs get their signal from component cables connected via an ethernet link.
I purchased the NextGen Genius from BestBuy and bought two extra transmitters online. I also bought on eBay, two additional Comcast RC1475507/03b remotes. These remotes are cheap and will run the new X1 box. The remote that is comes with the new X1 didn’t work my audio receiver.
I hooked up the NextGen Genius behind my TV and ran its three IR emitters to my equipment. I setup the remotes to work my equipment, put the NextGen transmitters in each remote, and everything worked. I did use small pieces of clear packing tape to reinforce the IR emitter adhesive.
I’m also using a NextGen transmitter In the remote in our den where the Comcast box, a TV, and an audio receiver are located. Our coffee table blocks the remotes normal IR signal, the the RF transmitter solved that issue.

I highly recommend this product. The associate in Best Buy tried to sell us a $350 RF remote, which exceeded our budget. We asked about the Genius Remote Extender, but the associates did not know much about the product. After reading the packing, we decided to take the product home and try it out. It really works. Setting up the product was a little confusing, but the customer support rep. was very helpful. We now have our Verizon Fios box in the closet and can operate our television without standing in front of the cable box. It really works. Save $250.00 and purchase this product.

This is the best! I love that all my electonics are out of sight.... I can store them in a closest and control my devices from basically anywhere. no more "get out of the way I am trying to change the channel" -- read the instructions that came with it and put everything together and done! I think the negative reviews are from people that simply did not take the time to read the instructions to set it up. I have no problem with mine it works great! one of the best purchases i have made this year!

I bought this product a month ago and it worked great, for 28 days. Then it just stopped working. It is hooked up exactly as it should be and the batteries have been changed, twice! I noticed that others said that in their reviews. Not sure what the issue is but it isn't worth the money.
