Underwhelming despite new additions

This series will do well for a refresh on the next generation of consoles. The in game experience seems new on the surface but is more of the same incremental tweaking the series received since its current generation debut. Franchise mode is as addictive as ever with its new coaching, scheme and lineup additions but it can't make up for the stale in game experience. Threes mode with legendary players on all time teams is also quite fun, but it just isn't enough to provide much lasting appeal. Overall, NHL is a series that needs more care on next gen consoles. Ultimate Team mode can not be the sole reason for its existence, and the in-game experience would do well to replicate the groundbreaking achievements of NHL 07.

But the presentation really sucks. Ditching NBC, their graphics, and announcers was the worst decision I can imagine. It totally ruins the authenticity of the game.
