This game brings in so many new features to the previous game while also strangely removing the cool pokemon monster system from the last game. These new gameplay features or styles include an RTS game called skirmishes that are similar to Pikmin with controlling multiple armies with multiple units in them and It's also similar to Fire Emblem with a form of the weapon triangle. Also included is a My Kingdom mode that is closely tied to the whole theme of the game with building a brand new kingdom from the ground up in a sort of game similar to something like the recent Final Fantasy XV mobile game. These all form the identity that is Ni No Kuni 2 and whilst they all fit into the game quite nicely it's hard to not miss the monster system from the previous entry to fully feel like this game is a real full blown improvement.
We do get multiple weapons and armors for each character, but the challenge wasn't there to make me care, at least when going down the main story anyway. For the more experienced, who really want a challenge look at the new Tainted Monsters. If you have played things like the Xenoblade games these are the unique monsters that are super tough and are much stronger and smarter than your average monster.
Story-wise I feel the pacing could have been more fleshed out with some longer dungeons as it feels the whole time the game is giving you much more story than gameplay. One thing that bothered me the most is that there is this new feature where the characters talk while the game is going on kind of similar to the skit idea in the Tales Of series. The problem with these is that unlike Tales Of they are not voiced and appear just as quickly as they disappear which is a very strange design decision as I always felt like I was missing out because I wasn't living up to their unrealistic required speed to reading them, let alone while I'm playing.
Of course, there are TONS of side quests that for the most part, all fit into the whole My Kingdom mode and RTS skirmishes that exceed the game's value. Take this game at your own pace and you are definitely sure to enjoy the charming world of Ni No Kuni 2.

Great game, visuals, all that. But I really miss the battle mechanics of the first game. But there's a lot of play time to this and a cool story.

The art is beautiful yet childish and the lightheartedness of the characters masks the darker parts of the story. Combat has improved a lot since the first game.

The game as whole, is okay. The game starts out wonderfully great, then suddenly feels as if it was rushed out the door. Understandable compared to the announcement and the release date. The is a lot to do in this game, and it is very similar in feel to Suikoden. The story needs more work put in to it, as it is also part of what feels rushed. You will find yourself spending most of your time building your kingdom - running out doing a ton of fetch quests. Not much else besides that. A buy for fans of the franchise, and RPG lovers alike.

Ni No Kuni II is much weaker in the story and character development than its predecessor Wrath of the White Witch. The story and characters are extremely idealistic; overall it feels like a Disney film. Characters are used to simply move the plot forward, even if it is too idealistic and forced. The performance on the Pro is amazing - 60 FPS and 4K HDR. There are minor frame pacing issues. However, this doesn't occur frequently. Gameplay is fun and varied.

Ni No Kuni II is a worthy upgrade from the original, but not all the changes are for the better. The graphics completely fall apart once the player reaches the world map. The battle system also received a downgrade from the original. The fighting is closer to the Tales series, but clunky and underwhelming.
The kingdom creator is amazing, and what ultimately drives you to push forward. While not on the level of many city-simulation games, it’s still fun and rewarding system.

This game is super fun and has great visual style. It's a little on the easy side, but there are options to increase the difficulty. I'm having a great time with it and its lighthearted story. The kingdom management system is a fun diversion and I enjoy adding new citizens to my kingdom. One complaint I have is that the fully-voiced cutscenes are too few and far between. The VO is great, but too often I'm reading text that seems like it should have been voiced.
